I'm going to be particularly picky and honest, we went on our honeymoon at the beginning of August for two weeks. We are a young couple, and for this break we were looking for ultimate relaxation and to do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted.

Before arriving I had emailed Sadec the manager and he was great, really helpful and we had a starter pack of food waiting for us upon arrival. All of the front of house staff and security were absolutely fantastic the whole time, arranging taxis, transfers and car hire at the drop of a hat in a very approachable, friendly manor. Security even paid for our taxi home one night due to me having incorrect change! Great guys all around.

When we arrived late on a Friday night we were showed to our room by security and it was quick and great, made to feel really welcome and at home. Didn't like the letter on the side from a tourist company saying they'll meet us at 11am the following morning, if we had asked that would have been great- but the first day? I don't want to talk to anyone but my other half on the first morning of a honeymoon, didn't want to get out of bed.

I did go to reception at 11 to apologise that we wouldn't be there, waited a couple of minutes and left when the rep didn't show up. I was really quite annoyed at this at the time, but it's quite silly and petty. The same rep did help me out with a car later in the week and he was extremely helpful, it must be said.

The next slight nif was one of the ladies in housekeeping in the first week obviously didn't want to be in our room, she was unhappy and liked to slam cupboards and doors and made us feel very uncomfortable. Other than that, she did cheer up and everyone else was great, they even did the dishes!

The room, balconies (yes 2!), bathroom and kitchen were all perfect, really what we wanted for two weeks in heaven. The kitchen could have been a bit better stocked, we only had one wine glass for the first week. I admittedly didn't point that out to anyone, I bought some champagne flutes anyway. We were n B7' in my opinion the best room in the place.it was a garden view, but you could see the sea from both balconies and had a lot more privacy than poolside. Without a shadow of doubt that room is the best value in the place.

The hotel itself was overall excellent. The staff were generally great, it was clean, well kept, and beautiful. Easy to get a taxi into grand baie, but I'd recommend hiring a car for at least one of your two weeks just to make it cheaper than taxis to get around, and get shopping and things like that. Right next to the beach and within a minute out of the Oceanside door you could be on soft white sand.

The biggest disappointment was the construction site next door, and it's almost worth putting 3* instead of 4. They are building a new hotel next door, like, RIGHT next door, maybe 3 metres away from the door to our room. They start work at 7 Monday to Thursday, and they make a lot of noise. This is nothing to do with the hotel, and I'm so sorry to say it but until, they finish work on it (Christmas time 2013) I can't recommend you stay there. It was so loud, and for a young couple that enjoy our lie ins, it's just a no go. IF, and it's a really important IF, you like your early starts and prefer to get out and about rather than lounge around- then this place is for you, book it, it's perfect. If you like to stay in bed until 11, have someone bring you breakfast and sit by the pool all day, don't book until after Christmas this year. I am really sorry for the staff there to be saying these things because overall it was so perfect, but that really changed the whole feel of our honeymoon.

Don't get me wrong, I'll go back there, but I'd make sure there's nothing else new being built before I went. Or, change my ways of course.

Thank you Sadec, and your lovely team. We enjoyed you, your staff and your hotel, but unfortunately next door didn't do much for us. Hopefully see you again after they've finished the building!

Mon Choisy Beach Resort is located at the north of the island near Trou aux Biches. A car is advisable when you stay here. Constructed on the premises of a former sea facing villa the hotel features an outdoor pool with sun loungers overlooking Mon Choisy Bay. At walking distance you find a large public beach. The hotel is build in the length of the plot and most rooms rooms have balconies overlooking the narrow but well maintained garden. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Hotel, parking and garden are guarded 24 hours a day.

Following recommendations we booked a room in A-building, first floor. Only A-building faces the sea. Our air-conditioned room had a nice balcony with a view of the bay. The room was clean with an OK bed, a kitchenette and an adequate bathroom with toilet, washbasin and shower. Restaurants and a shopping mall are within a 10 minutes’ drive of the hotel. Complimentary Wi-Fi, laundry facility and parking at the property. The kitchenette is very practical, simply buy your supplies and have breakfast at your balcony. The hotel itself has no restaurant. The balcony had a table and chairs for two and sideways bamboo sunscreens. Room, kitchenette and dishes are cleaned daily by housekeeping.

Next to the hotel a new building is erected. We visited in June and we were not annoyed by mosquitos or other bugs. The only negative we encountered was the day-long electronic jingle of the ice-cream van at the nearby pubic beach. Nights are calm and quiet. We definitely recommend Mon Choisy to anyone who seeks a value for money beachside hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room in A-buiding, the only building that faces the sea. Studio's A1, A2 and A3 are ground...

we stayed for 3 nights in a sea and pool view room, ask for one of the upper levels for the nicest view- we got the lower level which was good as we could walk to the pool quickly. there is a table for 2 for drinks and eating al fresco. we didn;t organise a car so caught the bus to places which is ok for short distances but if you want to visit other sights you will need a car. there is no restaurant nearby or facilities at the restaurant and for this i don't think it was quite worth the $160 AUD per night. on a plus--mon choisy public beach is a short stroll away and the most beautiful of the beaches we visited in the north - we walked to Trou Aux Biches beach but you couldn't swim very far out as there were boats speeding past and water activities, mon choisy is much calmer. the kitchenette was perfect for us as we were on a budget after 6 weeks in EUrope, so prepared breakfast and some dinners there. I would recommend getting food from the kIosk Magique about 1km walk along the beach to the right of the hotel, the food was excellent. the man helping us was great and we were able to check into our room early and check out at 7pm when our taxi arrived from the airport, a plus of coming in low season. on a plus, the weather was perfect, sunny and warm enough for a quick dip in the pool or at the beach. there are some renovations until december and an annoying icecream van and its music that we could hear all day but at night you can only hear the sound of the waves. would definitly come back

boutique hotel with clean, modern rooms. We booked a room with full sea view. Love the kitchenette which we made full use of. You need to buy all your supllies though, including food for your breakfast as there are no eating facilities in the hotel itself. Supermarket nearby is very small, so be prepared to travel to Grand Bay for shopping. Manager and staff very helpful in arranging tours. In particular, we lost a camera on the bus on one of the tours, hotel manager helped to track it down and we got the camera back just before we left Mauritius. So very thankful to the hotel!

The location is great. We booked a sea view room and the morning sunrise view over the lagoon is stunning. The rooms are smallish but well equipped. We stayed for a week and could easily have stayed for longer. The bed is comfortable, the shower is great and the rooms have a kitchenette should you wish to prepare anything (we just used it to prepare breakfast)
It's a short walk to Mont Choisy beach, which is easily the best beach on the north coast with calm water and a 2km sandy strip. It never felt crowded, even at the weekend when the locals frequent the beach. From here it's a short bus trip to Grand Baie.
Sadec and his team will cater to all your questions with a smile :)

Stayed 3nights in seaview room.
Rooms are modern with well stocked kitchenette. They don't supply dish washing liquid or sponges though so take note.
Small but beautiful grounds. Nice pool. Walking distance to mont choisy beach which is beautiful. Be prepared to travel on buses or take hire car as hotel really isn't in walking distance of anything.
Wifi is great and available throughout hotel.
Definitely recommend. However it isn't a resort. More like a small boutique hotel.
On a side note. Not hugely impressed by grand baie. Super u though is good.
