I'm going to be particularly picky and honest, we went on our honeymoon at the beginning of August for two weeks. We are a young couple, and for this break we were looking for ultimate relaxation and to do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted.
Before arriving I had emailed Sadec the manager and he was great, really helpful and we had a starter pack of food waiting for us upon arrival. All of the front of house staff and security were absolutely fantastic the whole time, arranging taxis, transfers and car hire at the drop of a hat in a very approachable, friendly manor. Security even paid for our taxi home one night due to me having incorrect change! Great guys all around.
When we arrived late on a Friday night we were showed to our room by security and it was quick and great, made to feel really welcome and at home. Didn't like the letter on the side from a tourist company saying they'll meet us at 11am the following morning, if we had asked that would have been great- but the first day? I don't want to talk to anyone but my other half on the first morning of a honeymoon, didn't want to get out of bed.
I did go to reception at 11 to apologise that we wouldn't be there, waited a couple of minutes and left when the rep didn't show up. I was really quite annoyed at this at the time, but it's quite silly and petty. The same rep did help me out with a car later in the week and he was extremely helpful, it must be said.
The next slight nif was one of the ladies in housekeeping in the first week obviously didn't want to be in our room, she was unhappy and liked to slam cupboards and doors and made us feel very uncomfortable. Other than that, she did cheer up and everyone else was great, they even did the dishes!
The room, balconies (yes 2!), bathroom and kitchen were all perfect, really what we wanted for two weeks in heaven. The kitchen could have been a bit better stocked, we only had one wine glass for the first week. I admittedly didn't point that out to anyone, I bought some champagne flutes anyway. We were n B7' in my opinion the best room in the place.it was a garden view, but you could see the sea from both balconies and had a lot more privacy than poolside. Without a shadow of doubt that room is the best value in the place.
The hotel itself was overall excellent. The staff were generally great, it was clean, well kept, and beautiful. Easy to get a taxi into grand baie, but I'd recommend hiring a car for at least one of your two weeks just to make it cheaper than taxis to get around, and get shopping and things like that. Right next to the beach and within a minute out of the Oceanside door you could be on soft white sand.
The biggest disappointment was the construction site next door, and it's almost worth putting 3* instead of 4. They are building a new hotel next door, like, RIGHT next door, maybe 3 metres away from the door to our room. They start work at 7 Monday to Thursday, and they make a lot of noise. This is nothing to do with the hotel, and I'm so sorry to say it but until, they finish work on it (Christmas time 2013) I can't recommend you stay there. It was so loud, and for a young couple that enjoy our lie ins, it's just a no go. IF, and it's a really important IF, you like your early starts and prefer to get out and about rather than lounge around- then this place is for you, book it, it's perfect. If you like to stay in bed until 11, have someone bring you breakfast and sit by the pool all day, don't book until after Christmas this year. I am really sorry for the staff there to be saying these things because overall it was so perfect, but that really changed the whole feel of our honeymoon.
Don't get me wrong, I'll go back there, but I'd make sure there's nothing else new being built before I went. Or, change my ways of course.
Thank you Sadec, and your lovely team. We enjoyed you, your staff and your hotel, but unfortunately next door didn't do much for us. Hopefully see you again after they've finished the building!
