We stayed at Le Bouctou before and after the Festival in the Desert 2005 and it was a great base. It was comparatively cheaper than its equivalents in Timbuktu and a good place to meet up with locals. The staff were friendly. Locals hang around there but don't hassle you. The rooms upstairs are (weirdly) better than those downstairs but the place is fine for a few nights. If you're veggie - avert your eyes when business-men take their lunch in the restaurant:-they invited us to share a whole roasted sheep! Friendly, efficient, I can't wait to return!
