Senja Bay Resort

We stayed here for 5 nights, while Perhentian Kecil is definitely a beautiful island with great diving options, the accommodation is clearly far from even 3 star ratings. Senja Bay resort was not an exception. While it looks good on the outside, the rooms were dirty, clearly worn-out, walls and even the floor had holes. The bathroom was very basic and we had to get the warm water fixed by the staff twice during our stay. The breakfast was a joke. Staff at the reception during our stay was nice, but that and the nice view were the only two positives. Gladly, we came to Perhentian Kecil for the nature, so Senja was just a sleep-over for us.

We spent 7D6N in Perhentian last week.We booked Senja bay and were a little apprehensive after reading the mixed reviews. We could only book the fan room. It's a short 5 mins walk across the beach from the jetty (Coral bay is really small.. barely 500m across). The staff was very friendly and upgraded us to an ac room with minimal fuss and special rates.

The rooms are pretty basic with thin walls and a bathroom that often leaks, but the beach and the snorkelling I guess more than makes up for it. Senja Bay possibly has the best location for off the beach snorkelling in Coral Bay. you can rent the equipment from the hotel itself.

The restaurant served the second best food I had on the Island (Ewan's wins hands down) and like ALL the restaurant on the island, you have to be patient after you order your food as they make your orders in turn, but, hey lunch means a fantastic view of the bay and dinner always had a movie playing..and with Wifi.. the wait was quite bearable. Definitely recommend their Banana and mango shakes. One of the best around.

I would stay there again

Room Tip: If you want privacy, then you choose the A frames on the beach

Arrogant and rude people at reception. Ugly and dirty room (I chose one of the better, that on the white block). Sewer smell all around the room.
Moreover, during night, the only 3 or 4 restaurants open on coral bay beach have arrogant and rude people as stuff!
I was 2 nights in Palau Kecil at Sanja (Coral Bay) and 7 nights in Palau Besar at Abdul …………….Besar was a sweet dream (although Abdul stuff was not very kind but the chalet were clean and all around was a paradise), and the different restaurants on the beach during night were fantastics. Differently Coral Bay in Kecil was a nightmare (in the morning we went always to Besar with private boat, but during night we necessarily returned to the grim reality of Senja Bay Resort and Coral Bay with many arrogant and rude people!)

We had an awful stay in Senja Bay resort. The rooms are so dirty and filled with sand. The bathroom was unbelievable filthy. The room smelt and was so noisy! There are two rooms connected to each other, but share 1 wooden, loose squeaking floor! and the walls are paper thin, so you can here every single sound of your neighbors. The beds were the worst! we could not feel our backs after 1 night. Smelly towels and you have to get everything yourselves. If you have a problem with your legs this is not for you due to all the stairs. We had a nice view over the sea, but the chairs were so uncomfortable that you did not want to sit outside. Breakfast was 3 pieces of toast with jam and the worst coffee ever. The whole place looked horrible and messy, absolutely nothing what is shown on their website! Also the beach is over crowded and there are water pipes over the beach? It looks scruffy, in the front of Senja the snorkeling is bad, all the coral is dead. The boats drive you crazy and you can hear loud music till 23:00 in your room. They charged us 150 RM, unbelievable..it was the worst stay ever.
The restaurant is the best we could find, and they make a great ice cream! from mango to snickers, absolutely delicious and not expensive. Also their fruit platter is huge and tasty.

Room Tip: I would advise not to go in the period of August/ September. It is over run by tourists. We searched...

We just spend 10 night at Senja Bay.
We loved our accomodation, a beach bungalow. It was clean, (bad, if not terrible) Wifi, we had a good view and paid a reasonable price (250 RM per night).

The service at Senja was okay, not outstanding though. You would expect after spending 10 nights that they would just print 3 boardingpasses as a service, but no. We had to pay 3 RM, just pety cash, but I guess it's just the impression thats left.

The breakfast was just a laugh: 3 slices of toast, 1 (!) cup strawberry jam en tea or coffee. We had breakfast once and than decided we were not going to play that game.

I guess if we had another bungalow we would'nt be quit so happy afterwards.

Lovely, rustic accommodations with everything you need, friendly efficient staff, good food, great views. I'd go back in a flash. Nights are quiet (unike other nearby beach resorts) and the beach a delight. They also offer snorkelling trips, there are dive centres nearby. The beach BBQ dinner could have been more on the beach and not on the path, but the food was good.

Room Tip: I had an airco room, very necessary in the heat of August.

My wife and I stayed here for a week in July, spent a couple of days lazing around and a few more getting PADI certified at Quiver Dive which is just down the beach. We had a fan room which was fine even in July. The place perhaps needs some maintenance but overall we were happy and whatever needed attention was done promptly once we let them know. Contrary to what others have said, we found the management/staff to be very helpful and courteous (maybe they've been reading the reviews). Overall, a good stay.

In terms of the restaurant, they had probably the best and biggest milkshakes we've had so far in 2 months of travel throughout South East Asia. The waffles are also good.

I'm giving Senja 4 out of 5 primarily for the restaurant. If I was rating the rooms alone it would be a 3.

Room Tip: Senja is at the end of Coral Bay on Kecil Island. There's a path 100m from Senja that takes you...
