“Brilliant Food, Great Environment and Perfect for Snorknelling!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

We stay here for 3D2N, food are very well presenting, fresh and delicious which the price is definitely good when considering those 5+ star a la carte. Seafood Platter is a must-try cuisine and dessert is awesome as well.

We join both snorkeling trip (start at 10:00am) and snorkelling by ourselves right outside the lovely long beach. Both are very nice with lots of tropical fishes around. Fist day are sunny thus perfect for outdoor, second and third day are rainy due to the early coming monsoon (mid-Oct) so remembering to check the season before planning to visit this lovely island! (Locals recommend April the best and good till early October)

Everything was so great till i have no idea where to starts. The view of the resort is already good enough plus the crystal clear water and the white sandy beach. I was stunned with the resort environment. From the first sight of the whole resort, I fell in love with it. And im so sure that my money worth everything here. The staffs here are ALL very friendly and the smile on their faces can be seen from early morning till late night. Great services during meal time, even though the foods were slow but it was understandable due to the quantity of guests. The foods were awesome! Fresh seafood! Although it was abit pricey, but u will never regret for having your meal at their restaurant. If you are interested in snorkelling, you can always look for Max, a very friendly helpful responsible guy. Kinda miss him too :P The rooms were comfy n clean with a sea view balcony. The sun rises in front of your balcony. It was a breathtaking view when u wake up every morning. In conclusion, Bubu is the place if u are searching for a nice and clean beach, a more private resort to relax, more quiter resort compared to those chalets down the beach. I will recommend Bubu. If Im coming back to Perhentian, for sure BuBu is my only choice.

We stayed for 4D/3N on a full board package. Overall it was an amazing vacation for us.

Our journey began with checking into the rooms. Rooms were quite basic, One queen bed, wardrobe, toilet, no water boiler, no coffee/tea. Essentially, its just a place to sleep. The view from the room was however spectacular.

The buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner was just edible, too simple and no variety. Bubu served the same food everyday. It was basically just fish, chicken, squid, beef and vegetable everyday for lunch and dinner + 2/3 variety of fruits and salad. However, the a la carte was 5 star because of their amazing chef!! My advise would be to go for a la carte and not buffet.

Snorkeling was amazing!! The reefs were alive and fishes were plenty. We managed to see sharks and turtles out on our snorkeling trips. The boatman during our snorkeling trip was very caring and guided us to spot the sharks and turtles.

The ocean @ Bubu was so very calm, clean and blue and the sand was so fine and white. It was just beautiful. We loved the scenery around Bubu. It was breathtaking.

The staff @ Bubu are very accommodating and friendly. They will try their best to cater to your wishes.

Overall, it was a great holiday. The scenery, ocean and great snorkeling trips made the holiday a memorable one. We would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: Request for a room far away from the generator, which is very loud and noisy and smells of diesel in...

The food was disgusting!!!! Avoid if you can. Maybe we ordered badly, but we had one Malay and one euro dish do we did get a sample of both menus.

Happy hour until 7pm (tigers 8rm) but don't forget they don't include tax or service charge on menus do it not actually a big saving. Nice to lie one the couches though.

Bubu Long Beach Resort was our sanctuary for a total of 3nights. It was July when we placed our booking for their September Room Package. We opted for their 4d3n Free & Easy Package at RM500/person. This package was inclusive of a two way boat transfer, deluxe Room, breakfast for two, sunset discovery and a jungle tracking trail.

I thought that it was pretty reasonably priced, seeing that most of the island resorts that we have visited had a similar rate, except that we usually go for a full board package with meals but this gave us room to explore other food places on the island. Besides, we've heard of a few positive reviews from our friends during their stay at Bubu, so that mostly sealed the deal.

Upon checking in, we were shown to our room. Nothing much to shout about, really. One queen bed that's lopsided ; mattress and pillows were very comfy though. Dressing table and a wardrobe. Balcony overlooking the sea. Tiny toilet with hot water available for showering but lack of nice toiletries.

The most ridiculous thing that I found the room lacking of was a water boiler and the fact that they do not provide you with coffee or tea packets. The one time that I actually brought my own 3in1 coffee packet (because I usually dislike Nescafe 3in1 that hotels provide) that I found myself without a water boiler. I believe that if a resort claimed itself to be "the ONLY deluxe resort hotel on the island" they should have a water boiler, at the very least.

I also found the resort to be very calculative. Guests are not allowed to fill their water bottles.. They expect you to buy water from them. At RM3/small bottle. I found this to be really foolish of them to be treating their guests like that.

Apart from not being able to obtain normal drinking water from the resort, guests have to pay RM5/day for beach towel rental. Here you are, thinking that you are going to have a great time on an island, at a beach resort and then everything stops when the least expected thing hits you, you find yourself having to pay RM5/towel just to laze by the beach. Lucky I brought my own spare towel. Seriously.

Snorkeling equipment rental price at RM30/set! All those island vacations that I've had, never ever have I come across such a rate! At most it was RM15 but not RM30! In the end, we did not even snorkel because we figured, we've seen the best of corals and sea creatures when we were on Gem Island. Coral Reef was just located behind the island and the snorkeling equipments were complimentary to guests of the resort. So, we gave this one a miss.

If guests are able to really relax and have a great time without being put through ridiculous calculative measures from the resort, being one, I really do not mind paying RM500 for my stay but small matters such as water and towels that you can't even bother to provide for your guest, the amount spent staying at your resort is not even worth it.

Overall, Bubu Long Beach Resort is still the best place to stay on Perhentian Kecil if you are looking for somewhere comfortable. However, I still favor Tuna Bay Resort at Perhentian Besar, if given the choice again.

most expensive on the island, but worth every ringgit. The best are complimentary drinks from 5-6pm. Each guest has 2 free cocktails. Beware of the huge lizards just behind the resort. Clean rooms and professional stuff.

I stayed here for 3 nights with my wife on a SCUBA certification package. Everything was completely satisfactory. We arrived at least an hour and a half before the arranged time and they checked us in early. The semi-attached SCUBA operation run by Quivers was great as well. It was more expensive both to sleep and eat here than many of the other places on the island, but the accommodations and food were far better than anything else we encountered. As for the food, the western options weren't anything to write home about, but the Asian selections were really good. We particularly like the location of Bubu in relation to the other places on the beach. It is at the northern end of long beach and thus doesn't have a lot of traffic. This means that the beach is cleaner, less crowded, there's more to look at if your snorkeling off the shore, and it's quieter. It had an international crowd that was a little older than the other places on long beach. I've read the big island is better for families but Bubu is kind of up the beach from all the guest houses so it would be a suitable options for families as well. That said, it's only a 5 minute walk from the more backpackery scene. The staff are great, not particularly quick or eager, but they're never rude. If you're thinking about doing a SCUBA package or just want to go on some dives, it's super convenient to Quivers Dive Shop and they were a pleasure to deal with. I'll end with this: don't expect a 5 star resort. Within the context of the island it is really nice, but it isn't the four seasons and makes no claim to be. The rooms are comfortable, hot showers, surprisingly nice beds, western toilets, a free in room safe, and A/C. I'd definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: We had a deluxe room and we were quite satisfied with it. I'm not sure it would be worth spring...
