I just visit Ewan's huts after reading all the reviews. When we arrive there was an available room. It's true the rooms are big, clean and the bathroom also big but basic. When we arrive we told them we want to stay for 3 nights but if possible extend our stay and they say no problem you can stay as long as you want, we pay 3 nights and then we said we want to stay 2 more nights, but at that moment we have money to pay just one night in the wallet, the lady toll us "no problem you pay latter" To our surprise that same evening they told us that we have to move the next day to other hotel because they have a reservation for our room and they were full.

After these experience I just can say yes the rooms are big but the service is bad. There is no consideration for their guests and they just go after a fully book (the money) hotel.

Maybe is because they have so many travellers after good reviews they lost the track of what make them rank a 4 1/2 dots.

Room Tip: Don't use the pillows are to hard, I got a stiff neck for 2 days.

After looking for accommodation all around the island, we stop to eat on Ewan´s Cafe. Enjoying a delicious food and a great conversation with Ewan, the owner, we decided to stay on his place.

The rooms are spacious and clean. The bed is big and comfortable. But the best of all, was the time we spend with Ewan and his family. Everything is done with care and love, and you feel very welcome.

We stayed one week there and if we return to the island, we will stay at Ewans for sure.

I didn't stay at Ewans small huts, but I ate at his restaurant every day.

It's a cozy place situated in between the two main beaches on Kecil. It seems always to be crowded, but it was never a problem to get a seat. The waiters are attentive and smiling. Their kids are running around cute as hell.

The food can take a while since it seems it is prepared one at a time (which also means you will not eat at the same time), but damn it's worth the wait. Everything is freshly prepared, very tasteful with lots of spices, big portions that makes you full and decent prices considering the other restaurants on the island.

Only downers are that the electricity-generator is situated pretty close by and if the wind has the wrong direction, you'll get smog in your face. Generally this is a common problem on the island and it would be good if they would put in a line from the mainland to prevent more pollution.

Anyway, 4/5. Go for the chili squid!

We looked at every accommodation option on this island and they all seemed to be either dingy or overpriced.
We went to Ewan's twice and he was full, on the third visit we'd timed it right as he's just had a cancellation...the room was bright, airy, clean and a good price at 50RM per night. No air-con or hot water, but cold showers are all you need after being in the sun all day, and late afternoon the water is hot anyway from the heat of the sun.
Ewan and his family are very sweet, he makes you feel welcome and greets you by name every time he sees you!
Wifi from the cafe can be connected to from the chalets, and although there's no electric during the day, you can charge things in the attached cafe.
Some chalets were still being built when we stayed but when finished and the gardens are landscaped I'm sure it will be beautiful.
This is the best place to stay and for that reason is always full, so would recommend booking in advance!

Great little place this. The rooms are large, clean, with a big double bed and mozzy net with a really clean wash area attached. This sounds basic, but in the Perhentians, for this price (£15) it's luxury.

The location is on the path between Long Beach (10mins) and Coral Bay (3 mins), closer to Coral Bay, so it doesn't have beach front huts, in fact it's located a little up away from the path in a bit of a worksite which in years to come, hopefully will turn to shrubland, but that's never really a problem as you spend most of the day on beaches or in the sea.

Although no electric during the day, you're able to pick the wifi up from the cafe at the bottom, and should you desperately need a plug, there are plenty of places to charge in the cafe.

Knowing what the competition is for Ewan's place, there is no competition, Ewan's place wins hands down. It's a great place to stay.
