This place is very popular with the foreigners, esp. backpackers and couples because it's the only resort on the beach. Very quiet and laid back. We were the only local (malaysian) family there (with 2 kids aged 5 and 2.5 yrs).

So what was it like here with small children? It's really do-able! It was great for the kids -- they had their 2 sessions of beach time every day that we were there -- one in the morning and another in the evening.

The afternoons, which could get a little too hot, were spent at the restaurant playing games and napping in the room. There was one afternoon where we walked along the paved trail to the next beach.

Tips for traveling here with kids:

* There are sea-facing units that are popular with the couples, but If you want attached baths, there are 3 units -- I think they are all jungle views. Two have sitting toilets, one has squatting toilet
* Order food for the kids ahead of time (i.e. if possible, select their lunch menu at breakfast time, etc.)
* We had the family unit with the jungle view (No. 7) -- large house with one queen and 2 single beds and attached bathroom with squatting toilet. Nice big verandah to sleep in during the day.
* Common bathrooms are clean
* The jungle rooms are located on the hillside, so it can be a little steep. All huts are built on stilts with rickety/narrow stairs leading up to it, so kids need to be a little careful.
* We had no problems with mosquitoes while we were there -- the beds had mosquito nets and we had some mosquito patches to put on.

Bear in mind that all the huts/chalets here are basic -- just a bed, a pillow, a fan and mosquito net. No cupboards, hot water, TV, aircond. The electricity is off from 7 am to 7 pm.

What's great about Mira Beach is the beautiful beach -- white sands, clear waters, sunset views. There's a spot at the end of the beach where there are rocks and great shade -- perfect for the kids to play at.

At night, kids can go on the beach with a flash light to see crabs scuttling about. Night sky is also great for star-gazing.

Food-wise, the restaurant has delicious kid-friendly selection, though limited. Banana pancakes, omelette, fruit shakes which were perfect for hot afternoons, non-spicy fried noodles and fried rice, potato wedges, pasta, muesli.

Just manage your expectations before going -- this is not a 5-star resort, but a simple, no frills place to stay with breathtaking beach -- and you and your kids will enjoy the stay!

Having stayed in long beach for the last 4 visits, decided to give it a change this time. No regret big time. Love it here at keranji/ mira for the serene peace and calm ambience. There's only 7 huts here, so its really the privacy that ud appreciate most. Love the beaches. U can also walk to the nearby bay and swim as if its urs as therell be no one else there. There's always water taxi if u wana go to coral/ long beach. But we walked. There's trail leading to coral bay. Not too near, prolly around 30 minutes to mama's kitchen at coral and another 15 20 minutes to long beach. One afternoon we walked to coral to have lunch And proceeded to long beach and straight up to that windmill. It was possible :p but off course requires energy and whole lotta sweats :p just ensure u bring torchlight if u wish travel in the evening/night.

Staffs were great. Shared bathroom acceptably clean. Room - okay. as expected very basic. almost like lemon grass in long beach. Beaches are nice, nice dip in the morning. Can snorkel. Food was nice but limited menu. Bit pricey compared to coral bay..

To conclude : really love it here, wud definitely come back

Tips : the room with shared bathroom are the best as theyre the beach front hut.

Amazing private beach, with amazing snorkelling and amazing night swim with glowing micro organism.
And also amazing jungle surrunding.
You will arrive by boat, and you can always take a boat taxi. But the 30 minute jungle path to the other beach is really nice.
It is perfect for couples.
Though you have to know that the bungalows are very basic, as is the cleanness, as is the bathroom, but theres some future projects for renovating them I think.
Not so much food choice of course.

There was a rat, but it was my fault for having a loaf of bread with me (you can't not expect critters to be running around). Our fan was broken and the young guys working there were up late fixing it for us; they were still on our patio fixing the fan, at 11pm, and we were two girls who had to wake up at 7am the next morning for our dive trip. Another guest (who'd kindly lent us his fan) noticed this and did try to hint at the guys to leave and let us have some sleep but they didn't seem to get it. In the end my friend stayed up and waited for them to leave while I went to sleep.
These two issues aside, the beach was wonderful, and we enjoyed our time here, reading in a hammock and enjoying the beautiful sunset. The staff can't really speak English but made things entertaining. Anyway there is one guy (the boss?) who can speak English very well.
This place is great for couples. My friend and I were the only non-couple staying there at the time.
FYI, every morning we'd wake up to find people who'd showed up without booking beforehand stranded on the beach. You have to book in advance!

We stayed in the Mira Beach / Keranji Beach resort in October 2012. It was exactly what we were looking for: simple beach life, laid back feel, great value. Having the beach to ourselves was wonderful (it is stunning), and we slept well in the huts. We arrived at the start of the rainy season so it would have been good to have the electricity on a bit longer than 7pm-7am (for hot water and light). In addition the owner was running down the supplies ready to return to the mainland - the food was basic and boring (pasta; toast), and the drinks were few and far between. I couldn't hold this against the owners as they were such a joy to spend time with, really lovely people. Despite these few things, our time at Mira beach was a thrilling adventure and I would recommend this slice of paradise to anyone. Having explored the rest of the options across both Perhentian islands, we made the right choice. Great memories.

Set on a tiny bay with only 8 huts Mira Beach certainly has an idyllic paradise location. Thirty minutes walk from the main strip Coral Beach or a ten minute taxi boat ride can make you feel a bit isolated, but it was just the Robinson Crusoe experience we were after. We felt like intrepid explores trekking along the jungle path to reach, what felt like, our own private beach. There is however very little to do apart from lay back on the sugar white sands, or snorkel around the rocks and watch the fish. You can relax in the tiny resort restaurant but this closes for food for most of the afternoon, the dinners do make up for it though, the choice is not extensive but it is very tasty home cooked food.
There are a mixture of huts with and without a bathroom. I was glad we had an en-suite as, depending on where your hut was positioned, it was a bit of a trek backwards and forwards to the toilet, especially at night when the storms drew in. The hut was very basic but clean, some more natural finishes and accessories would have turned them from nice to lovely, and would have made the price of the en-suite room a little more reasonable.
If you like quiet and solitude this is definitely the place to stay.
