BAD EXPERIENCE WITH PREBOOKING
-We reserved 2 nights by email and were told the first night will be invoiced via paypal.
-When invoice was emailed to us, it was the for entire 2 night stay plus additional charges.
-We questioned the charges via email and did not receive a reply
-We then called and were told that those were the charges passed on to us for him using paypal. "Paypal charges us 10%", he insisted. We asked why the invoice was for the full amount rather than the 1st night referenced on the email. The person we talked to then said "oh don't worry" just show up and pay when you arrive." "Are you sure? We don't want to come and not have a room", we stated. "Yes, don't worry. Just walk in and don't worry"
-We arrived at Mira Beach and the manager said "Oh, you are the ones who called, right?" Yes!. "Well the woman who told you we would hold your room should not have said that,. We gave the room away this morning." "We have another room for one night if you want it", he said. "Why did you give our room away if you knew about our discussion?" "It is pointless to argue", he said. "We have a room for just one night" We told him we were disappointed but received no apology or further explanation. The manager didn't even want to listen to us. He was rude. His attitude remained bad for our entire stay.
100 METERS OF SCENIC BEACH
Yes, the small strip of beach at Mira is very nice. The setting of the ramshackle huts in the secluded jungle is nice, and especially the cute little resident otter...adorable. Food from the restaurant was tasty. That is where it stops.
HUTS ARE POORLY MAINTAINED
If you have to interact with Yi, the poor manager, about inadequacies of the place he turns a deaf ear. Yes, if you spend your money freely and use his overpriced services he can remove the scowl from his face. We certainly were not expecting anything but Spartan accommodations. We have been traveling for 2 and half years and are not afraid of roughing it. Our complaint here is that our cabin (#1) is in dire need of some maintenance. One window cannot be closed or locked. One of the plastic chairs on the patio was broken and when I brought it to the attention of Yi's wife, she seemed surprised but nothing was done about it. Our hut had obviously not been swept out after previous guests which made us suspect the cleanliness of the sheet. No top-sheet was provided and the tiny fan was pitifully, useless. Shared bathroom facility has western toilets and water supply. But they don't work and bucket flush is necessary. Piles of old wood, broken glass, ceramic tiles and other debris are here and there which detracts from the overall appearance.
ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL
We hiked 30 minutes to Coral Beach where we found an ocean front cabin, ensuite, clean, with top-sheet no less, amazing breakfast included for 80 ringgit (at Butterfly Chalets). Walk in only. We paid in advance for a room for the next day. A no brainer. We were glad to stay at Mira beach for just the one night.
