Bintang View Chalet and Restaurant
Reviewed April 2, 2014 via mobile

Me and my friend spent two nights in the chalets, and it was wonderful. The Irish woman who owns the place is really nice and helpful. The chalets are very simple, but with a nice little terrace. Toilets and showers are okay, and there is even toilet paper!
I can recommend this place to everybody who likes it cheap and simple.

I really enjoyed my stay at Bintang view. The place is basic but very cosy and quiet. It's located at Long beach, a bit higher up with a great view over the bay. Most of the huts are in the shade in a natural surrounding, so it doesn't get too hot there during the day and it is a quiet, beautiful hide out from the beach during the day. The smaller huts have shared toilets and showers but the owners pay great attention that everything is functional and extremely clean. The newly build bigger huts come with an inside shower. My hut had a cute little veranda in front of it and inside a mosquito net and fan were provided.
Finola, one of the owners can give valuable information about where to go and what to do during the stay on the island. Laundry service and snorkeling tours can be booked there. For people who like to read, there will be a great selection of books for sale. You will definitely find a good beach read there. Also, the place is very save, thanks to Jo, the other owner, who is on the lookout at night.

Enjoyed our stay at Bintang. We stayed in a chalet with shared toilet/shower facilities which were spotlessly clean.
Chalet itself was rustic and with a nice veranda. Our chalet was further back up the hill and so the noisy bars didnt bother us too much. Enjoyed the tropical jungle surroundings and spotted a couple of big monitor lizards wandering past!
Good backpacker option, close to the beach with a nice rustic feel. Who wants to stay in a 5* resort anyway!?!

Pros:
-Location is a little bit back from Long Beach which was excellent as the all-night fire dancing and concert-volume music pumping out from the beach bars would make sleeping difficult otherwise.
-Chalet was in good condition. It was clean with a great shower and toilet.
-Nice veranda with table and chairs.
-Good bed with mosquito net and fan.

Cons:
-Electricity only ran from 7pm until 7am (affecting the fan).
-Forget about wifi!

I was recommended these bungalows by a friend of mine who stayed there a few months before. I have to say I checked the reviews and some were quite negative, but thought I would try it for a night anyway - I could always move.
Anyway, we got there and got a great little bungalow - simple but super clean. Just a bed, fan and mossie net, but that's all you need (or get in any other bungalows), especially for 60RM. The shared bathrooms were thoroughly cleaned at least twice a day.
The owner was really friendly too.
The only negative thing were that the restaurant on site was not working this season - such a great location I bet it would have been nice for dinner. Also the beach bars sometimes blared out music till late, it wasn't too loud, but do take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper and don't like reggae mixed with Motown...
A good experience overall!

The room was one of the best we could find on the island. It was very clean and had a nice porch and view. We stayed in a bungalow with attached bathroom and fan for 85 ringett. Everywhere on long beach was noisy at night and this place seemed to be one of the quieter places. My only negatives would be that the fan quit around 7:30am and the room got quite hot quickly! Made us get up and at em but would have been nice to not wake up really hot! Also we stayed for 7 nights. When our roll of toilet paper was finished I went and asked for some more. I was told they only provide 1 roll per stay and we had to buy our own if we wanted more. It is super cheap to buy but I thought it was poor service to not supply at least an adequate amount of a basic necessity during our stay.

Bintang View chalet is located on a hill and it takes an easy hike to get up there. To get there, you will need to walk pass some bushes - gets dark at night, so bring a torch and prepare for mosquitoes!

The owner Finola is a very nice woman - good hospitality by operators can be hard to find on the island so her friendliness was a welcome change. I was given a chalet with ensuite bathrooms which costs RM85 a night - which I think was okay as there were many others charging RM100+ for the same. It was basic but adequate for most people's needs. Electricity only comes on after 6.30pm - not a problem if you're on the beach in the day. You also have a good view of the sea from the balcony and if you wake up in time, you could catch the sunrise!

Noise problems were minor - the generator at the top of the hill can be quite loud, but I am a sound sleeper. Light sleepers may consider this. Although the beach parties are exactly at the bottom of the hill, the noise isn't loud enough to bother you in your rooms.

I came in May 2013 and the restaurant was closed - was told it is shut down for the year. However, they still sell canned and bottled drinks and you could relax at its sofas. They also have a collection of books - although I'm not sure what the borrowing policy is.

All in all, a recommended place to stay if you don't mind the slight hike up the hill.

Room Tip: There is a generator at the top of the hill which can be loud - try ask for a chalet that isn't...
