The traveller who said that this is the last unspoiled place in the Perhentians, I'm afraid, has it right. Thank goodness it is here, however - a refuge for divers, turtles, reef fish and laid-back travellers (in approximately that order). Unlike the uniformed, unhappy staff at Tuna Bay (see my review), the people working and volunteering here are people that quickly become your friends. Eric, Peisee and Ronnie are as warm-hearted as can be, and this is shown not only in thier many reef, turtle and landcape preservation efforts, but by the people that they hire to staff the place as well: Harrik, Yap, Holly and all the friendly, capable boatmen, as well as the scuba pros Nicola and Lewis, and Dan and Jimmy and the Turtle Rescue volunteers. (And mind you, I'm not that gregarious a person to begin with -- but these people are all so down-to-earth and friendly, it's hard not to wind up deeply liking them!)

Now, the accomodations here are basic, as the other two reviews here have noted - but they are clean and comfortable and quiet and they DO have hot water showers (what the other reviewer was referring to, I think, is that the rooms don't have individual electric hot water pots for making tea and coffee - but that is more than offset by the public thermos dispenser of boiling hot water, and tea, coffee, sugar and creamer packets that are available all day and night at the open air restaurant pavillion - a typical thoughful and practical, no-nonsense Bubbles Resort touch!). Like most other such A-frames around Southeast Asia, the chalets here conform to the rule that indoor lighting must never be sufficient for reading at any hour - but as the other poster noted, you have the whole beach and daylight sunlight on your own private balcony for reading! The cottages are strictly for showering off in and to have a nice, comfortable sleep in at night (or during the day!)

The food is pretty good to very good (you're still on an island, where almost all the food has to be shipped in, so things like fresh vegetables are not always available), and if you've stayed at the Panuba Inn on Tioman (which is the closest other solitary beach resort that I know of resembling Bubbles), both the house reef and the food here are 2 to 10 times better, respectively! (And that's saying something! I love Panuba Inn...but the food there is really quite poor, especially the "breakfast" and the house reef is only have the size, with much less diverse fish and coral).

But the big draw here - in addition to the people - is the gorgeous, occasionally wild, nature that surrounds you. The pictures that are up here pretty much say it all: the house reef is home to nesting turtles, octopus, black tip reef sharks and a great variety of colorful big and small fish. The jungle right behind it has monkeys and monitor lizards, and in between the two is a lovely stretch of beach that you'll have often to yourself. As other reviewers have noted, this is NOT a party beach - nor is it part of the relatively upscale kind of pre-packaged "beach resort" that is Tuna Bay. Instead, it's just a cool, quiet place to EITHER snorkel/scuba dive or to gloriously Do Nothing. Those are pretty much the two main options here, and you'll do them both in very good company at tranquil, unpretentious Bubbles.

Have just returned from Bubble Resort last week and again have been hesitating in doing this review...being worried that another rare gem will be over-polished (losing its layback) and losing its solitary status again...like those fully booked resort on the main strip.

But on the other hand, I think the sincerities, personal services and homely attentions from all the wonderful Bubbles' staff/volunteers deserve high recommendation and recognitions.

1)Great and personal services from booking to arrival till departure from Bubbles' Harick, Chef Wong on his delicious and creative dishes and sharing of recipes, driver Bahar for land transfer to/from Airport and Boatman Abalee! Help from Peisee though she is on leave from work.

2)Have great time learning everything regarding turtle protection from the responsible/patience/helpful volunteers. Great for kids.
When turtles arrives from the sea at night, these volunteers will call for you regardless of time or base on your latest request timing.

3)Surprisingly that though resort/chalet is basic and layback, it's comfortable and comes with individual hot/cold spring water/good aircon system. Bear in mind that all the wooden chalet stands alone, not like a hotel with concrete walls or jointed-chalets.

4)We have done the DSD with Irene and Curtis from the dive centre and its was great. I have decided to return and do the Open water early next season.

5)The house reef is just about 5-10m from the beach and well maintain. I have snorkeled in PIR and Tuna and glad to say it's as good if not better. I have totally spotted about 30 crown fish/nemo (only saw 4 at Tuna and none at PIR), some near to shore(when water only at my waist , safe and great for kids to explore and snorkel on their own.

6)Finally it's the costing of the entire stay of 5D4N, its competitive when comparing to those well established resorts, but when it's comes with a secluded/privacy beach...only sound of waves and bird waking you up in the morning...surprise lunch/dinner creation from the Chef... and homely enviroment/atmosphere from the staff...this is really value for money. When I was there, I have the entire beach to myself most of the time.

My final advise: Bubble is fantastic and great for diving, but if you don't, it's OK though there is 'NOTHING' to do at times. BUT again isn't you here for a break and holiday??

My final final advise: since when have you laid under the tree next to the beach reading a ENTIRE book? here you can, so bring a book or two....

Bubbles Dive Resort is tucked away on a small strip of private beach which is a turtle sanctuary. It's the only resort on the beach and is quite isolated, so this is not for those who want to go bar-hopping or partying.

No noise, no lights after lights out in case these disturb turtles which come ashore to nest on the beach.

The resort accommodation is rustic, which means basic, but adequate. Rooms are either fan or air-conditioned, with attached bathroom. They're comfortable enough, but not well-built or particularly well-equipped, ie, no hot water, TV, phone, etc. But then, you come to Pulau Perhentian to get away from these distractions, and the room is a place to sleep in and not spend time in otherwise.

What Bubbles specialises in is diving, with a dive center, dive boats and good dive masters. Staff are friendly, food is good and reasonably priced, and you feel that you are part of the island community, and not living in your own isolated cocoon of luxury and comfort. That's a plus.

I would recommend Bubbles to divers who want a reasonable price, good diving and privacy. That's all you actually need to go diving.
