“Almost paradise...”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

Pros:

- white sandy beach & crystal clear water;
- chalet with sea view, wooden village type house with a queen/king size bed;
- AC & fan in the room, electricity was provided on a 24/7 basis;
- The toilet/bath was clean, with hot showers, electric-pump;
- restaurant is simple, by the beach, food was tasty with generous servings and at night, it has a rather romantic atmosphere to it, especial in the evening you can dining on the sandy beach, with the candle on the table. Good & fresh barbecue, fish, prawns, beef, etc., at evening;
- staff very friendly ( thank you for all !!! ), especial the two young little ladies who served our food at the table;
- good minimarket, decent price for water, ice-cream, lotion after sun burning ( aloe 100% ), etc. Better prices in the muslim village, on the small island, just in front.
- fast check-in & check-out
- free wi-fi in the restaurant area

Cons:

- is hard to say...maybe is better to put sunbeds instead of plastic chairs, on the beach
- no safe box in the room

Had a wonderful stay in Abdul's Chalet ... Overall from booking till check out and our stay was nothing to say bad. Just the downside is the restaurant ... don't expect good food and service. We had all our meal in the restaurant for our 3 days 2 night stay. The waiting time was too much for our six meals in their restaurant. But anyhow i didn't expect much. We are in an Island and it's a budget chalet. The wonderful sandy beach and the island has melt my heart and there is nothing much to complaint about. Overall my kids had a wonderful stay and time in Perhentian Island and I will strongly recommend my friends and family to Abdul's ....

We stayed at the beach front family room. It's so great and convenient we could watch the children playing while drinking or relating comfortably in the front porch. Room is clean, reasonably spacious with an old small fridge.

The beach is good for swimming but not snorkeling. However, we prefer this over the tuna bay beach. Tuna bay actually shares the same beach with Abdul's with only a jetty between the 2 places. As there is still live coral at tuna, there are quite a lot of marine life and is a v good , convenient place for snorkeling. But water can be too shallow esp. at low tides so you may find yourself and the people around too close to the coral. With the number of people and amount of activities, damage can't be helped as you can imagine. Tuna beach is relatively crowded.
As there are less guest rooms at Abdul's , the beach is much quieter. No sun deck from Abdul's but the basic looking lounge chairs are surprisingly good enough.

Selling price at the small shop is "reasonable" on this island standard. You can find most things you need. No beer of course.

Food from the kitchen is mediocre , on the ok side. Same and bit boring menu. BBQ choices at night worth consideration. Not expensive compared with the altogether 4 places I visited on the small island. If you don't want to wait long for dishes, go bit earlier or later than peak time. Life will be easier. We went to the tuna bay for dinners most of the evening and dined at Abdul's and some other try out during the day. Tuna bay is about 50-60% more expensive but different. The small eat -out ( Jenny?) between the 2 places, on the beach, opens only during day time. food there is no exception from Abdul's. But I do hope staff at Abdul's restaurant can smile more and be more friendly.

It would be even more desirable if they can provide electric water boiler or for loan.

I am not sure if the people staying at house 1 share our view as that is close to the restaurant and at evenings, when walked past, some unpleasant smell between these two premises. Staff WC and quarter at the back.

Overall we are very satisfied with our stay and will definately pick this place if we visit this island again. Other than Abdul's, we stayed at BUBU resort as well.

Room Tip: We all like the beach front rooms.

We had high expectations of Abdul's and value was certainly delivered. Having stayed in both a standalone fan chalet and a more luxurious a/c unit, we can conclude that Abdul's offers value for money. The "garden fan" was a clean, basic unit where the "garden a/c" was quite luxurious and definitely newer. Beds were soft and offered plenty of comfort.

The way Abdul's is situated on the beach behind the jetty offers a feeling of privacy, and the water is excellent for swimming and snorkelling. Since the water runs deep quite fast, you don't have to worry about coral cutting as much as on the southern beach.

While the general service for the rooms is great, the service in the restaurant was something to get used to. The staff is extremely friendly, but can cross you as somewhat odd. During our stay, we have not received our diners simultaneously even once, which can get a bit annoying. Being forced to start eating to prevent it from going cold, while your partner still has to wait for another 45 minutes is not the best idea of timing. If you just keep in mind to take things slowly, there will not be a better place to stay.

Great accomodation, relatively poor restaurant service.

We had no great expectations of the accomodation at Abdul Chalet but found the beach front bungalow clean and adequate with excellent snorkelling right infront of our bungalow. The restaurant is also adequate with decent basic food although we did find better value elsewhere.

We visited a number of different hotels on the island and they all are very much the same with no pretentions. They exist to provide accomodation for lovers of diving and snorkelling and noone should visit the Perhentian islands expecting luxury accomodation. The one irritation at Abul Chalet was that no soap was provided - we had to buy at their shop!

Room Tip: Book a beachfront bungalow

Abdul Chalet is located on a very nice beach with beautifull corals right on the beach. You can enjoy snorkling with beautifull fishes only ten metres from your chalet. Very clean and nice rooms with aircondition and fan that worked perfectly. We went snorkeling with one of the locals, Seyfull who worked there. An amazing day.

The only drawback were the barbeque and dinner. but hey, whatS the problem when you can walk five minutes on the beach and get perfect food on the neighbour resorts restaurant. They didn't clean the rooms during our 5 day stay. Overall we loved to stay at Abdul Chalet, the positive sides by far outshined the negative sides. We want to come back to Abdul!

We stayed at Abdul's for 5 days in September of 2011 (Im sooo late in writing this) but I wanted to spread the word on what a great place to stay it is! If you are looking for luxury accomodations on the Perhentian Islands, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Everything on the two Islands tend to be modest and for people on a budget...however I think that this is part of the charm the Perhentians offer! Abduls is ideally located right at the jetty on the Big Island. I've seen some reviews where people said that this was a disadvantage because it disrupts the view, but I disagree. In fact, I found it advantageous since it meant that we did not have to schlupp our suitcases across the island to our lodging (rolling suitcases and sand do not work well together!). As for the view, it was superb...jetty and all! Since Abduls is located just around a bend there is nothing but luscious nature and pristine beach to the left of it that you are more than welcome to explore. The jetty also somehow protects the waterfront in front of Abduls giving you a kind of "private" beach. A bit further down to the right from Abduls is Tuna Bay where you can snorkel in the reef and grab a bite to eat from one of the "larger" establishments (although the food at Abduls is delicious, especially the fresh Mango juice we had each morning). We stayed in the seaview chalet and it is well worth the spare change since you have your own porch to sit on and enjoy the view in the evening. Air conditioning is a plus too, but we usually turned it off during the evening since we got too cold! The staff is super friendly and will do anything to help accomodate your stay. Book at Abduls!
