Perhentian Tuna Bay Island Resort
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 13, 2014

We stayed one week at Perhentian Tuna Bay Island Resort and it truly was a great experience.

First of all the island is just paradise and the beach right in front of the hotel is very nice. The atmosphere is laid back and very relaxed. The hotel is lovely with a very helpful and smiling staff. The breakfast was good and their coffee shake in the restaurant is highly recommended! From the hotel, you can walk to the other side of the island. We went there a few days just to hang out, see something else and eat lunch at a different restaurant.

The diving center just beside the hotel was very good with a great bunch of people and instructors.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Tuna Bay very much!

we booked 2 rooms with package 3D&2N as always.. we arrived at 1130hrs & managed to get the rooms at 1300hrs. surprisingly some off the staff still remember us.. all of them were friendly & polite. food was good. rooms are comfy except the water pressure during bathing is too slow.. on the 2nd day we were recommended snorkeling trip to Rawa Island which is cost Rm60 per head & it was worth it.. another experience to be share.. thanks to these guys, our boatman Mr Joju & Mr Lu for the awesome snorkeling trip...

We didn't stay here but enjoyed their food. The tandoori chicken skewer is amazing. Good wine too. The Pinna Coladas are to die for.... but watch the prices.... we didn't ask prior (our fault) and paid a steep 25 MR per drink. Oups.... but well worth the splurge ;-)

We stayed for 5 nights for part of our honeymoon travels around Malaysia. The land transfer and boat transfer both ran smoothly and the tuna bay boat is much bigger and more comfortable than other resorts boats we had seen.

The beach is stunning! A perfect paradise island with the coral reef right in front perfect for snorkelling!

We stayed in a standard room which we thought was excellent value very clean and much more private than the sea view bungalows which really suited us.

In order to improve the rooms they should put small fridges as they supply mineral Water however in hot weather the water gets very warm very quickly!

The gardens are very well kept and the staff were very polite and friendly. The beach is also kept very clean compared to other beaches around the island.

The only thing stopping us giving this review 5 stars is the service in the restaurant. It was extremely slow some nights we waited nearly an hour just to get served a drink let alone good and nearly every meal we had was served before my husbands therefore we didn't get to
Eat together much! The food was average however the price is very good compared to the uk. Alcohol is expensive! Gin and tonic around £6 and a medium glass of wine over £4 however it was very nice having the option to purchase alcohol as many resorts do not sell it.

We recommend that you visit Turtle Beach the clearest, bluest sea we have ever seen! Paradise doesn't even come close in describing this beach! It is simply stunning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at tuna bay and cannot wait to return one day!

Location was perfect, a fabulous surprise that you could snorkel amongst such a range of coral and wildlife straight from the beach! The accommodation was fantastic, given that you were on a small remote island, with 24hrs access to hot water, electricity and air con. The restaurant provided an excellent range of food both local and western and great choice for buffet style breakfast. Free Wi-Fi access was very much welcomed and glad that food prices had not been increased because of location unlike other resorts on both islands. We initially had a two night package which included some great snorkelling tours on the local boat and so much good quality food to eat that we stuffed! Staff were friendly, efficient but subtle adding to the relaxed island feel. Tuna Bay Resort was so good we had to extend our stay and definitely contributed to the idyllic natural beauty of the island but also making our travels extra special. Got it just right and can't wait to plan our next trip here! Exceeded our expectations, worth the money and more. Thank you

If you are looking for five star luxury then Redang is more you. However my girlfriend and I made a conscious decision to avoid the typical 'resort' experience and go for something with charm and character. Tuna Bay was perfect for that.

The chalet rooms are clean and are serviced every day with fresh towels. We only used the chalet to shower and sleep so it was perfectly adequate.

The staff are very attentive and friendly and make you feel right at home. We had a seamless stress free transfer from the airport to the hotel and on arrival we were warmly welcomed.

The food in the restaurant is ok, they have a balance of local dishes and western choices (Bubu on the smaller island is by far the best place to eat) however all of the restaurants on the island are much of a muchness, however the service at Tuna Bay is excellent & much quicker than some of the other restaurants we visited.

Tuna Bay's real selling point is the coral in front of the hotel. Being able to snorkel within a few feet of the beach is really fantastic, with lots of fish swimming alongside you in shallow water. You can hire a snorkel from the hotel for £2 a day and they have snorkelling trips to other parts of the island which I also recommend.

Other resorts on the island get some good reviews on Trip advisor but they don't look to be that nice in the flesh.

Tuna Bay is a solid 4 stars for overall experience. If you are looking for a mid price hotel that has everything you need for a relaxing beach holiday then you can't really go wrong. We would happily come here again.

The Perhentian islands are an oasis away from it all...car free and as friendly as can be. Of the resorts, Tuna Bay is the pick of the bunch...not the cheapest by any means, but with the best beach, very helpful staff, and excellent breakfast. The rooms are basic but clean (our only complaint was the rock-hard pillows, they could invest in something softer), while the restaurant serves great food all day long - but again a short water taxi will find you much cheaper alternatives. The diving is wonderful, and even snorkelling we saw turtles and black-tipped reef sharks, while a walk in the jungle revealed monkeys, monitor lizards and, er snakes! We really enjoyed this place.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, get a sea view, otherwise we liked the rooms closer to the restaurant to make...
