“A nice place in a paradise beach”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

We reserved in this resort because it was the only one with room available the time of reservation. We looked at the feedback and were quite skeptical about location and service. The loction is wonderful in a paradise beach, the staff is maybe not so efficient but nice and helpful. The cleaness is perfectly in line with most places in Malaysia very far from european standards anyways. The food choice at breakfast is quite satisfactory, while we tired dinner and did not like, maybe you can have dinner in other near restaurant (we liked watercolors reztaurant most). The beach is beautiful and well kept. Only bedrooms should need some restyling because they are qiute old fashioned. But in such a nice and wild place no need to have a design room with tv.

We really had an amazing experience here. Within10 minutes of getting in the sea out the front of the hotel we were swimming with turtles....BIG turtles! Further over on the beach we swam with a myriad of fish and reef sharks. The beach is beautiful and the surroundings amazing.
Unfortunately the hotel experience isn't so good. The amount of time we had to wait for our drinks order to be taken, then food order and then get the food sporadically delivered was beyond a joke and we're a really easy going family. We ended up eating at one of the great restaurants further up the beach.
I'd recommend staying here as the rooms were ok and like I said, the snorkelling is incredible but just eat elsewhere.
One more thing....take the nearby jungle walk. We stumbled across a family of gibbons!!

We stayed 5 nights in the Perhentian Islands and chose the Resort based on its location, comfort and the rate.

THE BEACH WAS AMAZING - it is the best Beach I have ever been to with its white sand and transparent warm water. The coconut trees were the ultimate detail to make it a postcard. We could even swim and snorkel 5 minutes away from the hotel, and saw turtles, multicolor fishes & coral.

THE RESORT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING.
Firstly, it should not be called a resort as there was no security guards, no activities, nothing for kids, no music, no life! nothing else than bedrooms & a low quality restaurant.

The hotel was not properly maintained & managed, here are a few examples :
- the door of our clothes cabinet was broken
- the toilets were leaking on the floor (although we reported it, noone came to fix it, they gave us 2 mats instead of one to absorb it!),
- the bath was damaged, no TV in the room (this is not important),
- the swimming pool was closed for maintenance all week (come on it was august 15th week : the peak season!!) - we selected this hotel for its pool - ...
- the few wooden sun beds on the beach were not all in a state we could use them, and as no security guard on duty, tourists from other hotels used them...
- not to mention that sun beds around the closed swimming pool were not dispatched on the beach...they remained unused and we lay down on the sand - it didn't make sense...
- the breakfast buffet was also disappointing : the selection was very minimal,
- the staff was nice but badly needed some training, their sense of service needs to be ...developped!

We frequently travel throughout Asia and have - I confess - high expectations - ours might not be yours - but this feeling was shared by other european clients around us.

Our general opinion about the Perhentian Resort is that it is expensive (105€/night) for the poor quality of equipment & service. We will not get back to this hotel and won't recommend our friends to stay there until things have changed.

This is surely the most beautiful beach on the island, if you are looking for that you must go there. If you go for the resort, stay away. It is not good maintained, all kind of things are broken. The rooms/cabins are old, not really dirty but also not really clean.
The food is the worst I have eaten in the last years of traveling. The rooms include breakfast so we went there but most of the time it is not filled up, and the food is really bad. If you go there include not using the breakfast but walk to another restaurant for your breakfast, it will spoil the start of your day. The first night we made the mistake of using their buffet dinner, you really cannot call it food so bad. So my advice, if you want to be on the best place of the island, and are prepared to accept so so rooms book here. But reserve some extra money for using the breakfast in one of the restaurants/hotels next to this resort. It is only 5-10 minutes walk.

I am probably going to be biased about a review anywhere on these islands as this is where we got engaged.
The boat ride over to the islands was very fun and fast. It was great to see where everyone else was staying before we reached the resort. When we arrived we took a while to check in at the reception but thought our chalet style room was great. There were a couple of things...lights not working and small things. But after a small discussion with the reception, they were fixed in no time. We were visited by a couple of little lizard type creatures, but given the environment , that was quite fun.
The beach is undoubtedly beautiful and snorkelling is lovely in the warm waters. There are many fish and turtles to be seen.
I am not sure how people can criticise there being no alcohol in the resort...you have to appreciate the culture and religion in the areas you go to! And if you spend some time visiting other eateries then alcohol is offered around the island.
The breakfast was really good with a huge variety of foods on offer and there is also free wifi which we took full advantage of to tell our families of our engagement.

Nice service and nice beach. Problems with room that too old already. Air-condition not so cold even open 24hrs. No TV at your room. Good for couples who can enjoy their time together without any interruption. Check-in was smooth also check out. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is average only.

The reason for stayed here only because of their beach, snorkeling activities and brand name of Pulau Perhentian. Other than that............please find another resort.

Nice beach and decent location but service and food needs some major improving. We stayed for three nights for our honeymoon and overall it was not bad but I probably wouldn't choose this resort again. The check in process was horrendously slow and very unorganized. Even though we came on the 11am ferry we could not check in until 2pm. That was fine but then the lunch left much more to be desired and the prices were steep for what you got. 45 ringgit for old buffet food, pricey drinks (no alcohol served at this resort) and terrible service. The wifi was spotty and basically non-existent. He kept trying to reset it for us but it never was reliable. Even their "Internet center" did not have Internet and the continued to make excuses for 3 days.

Moving on we checked into room 215 which was "deluxe" but not sea view. It was a Standard chalet, clean but fairly dark with only one window in the room. No complaints about room as it was close to beach and restaurant area but it wasn't worth the price overall. Luckily, after reading reviews we knew what to expect here so this wasn't a shock.

The snorkeling trip in the morning was okay but packed with tons of others and not sufficient time on the water. The third stop was directly in front of the resort where it was great to see the turtles but seemed odd that was part of the paid package.

Since we knew the food sucked we took a taxi to the little island for two nights and enjoyed more nightlife, alcoholic beverages and some good food on long beach. In retrospect this area may have been better suited for us but it was a short taxi from PIR and despite one windy night the trip was fairly seamless.

The third night we stayed close to home and enjoyed dinner at coral view resort which I highly recommend. Food and service here were great!

Overall, PIR needs some updating and better service (some staff really tried but truly were not trained well it seemed) but this resort has a nice beach and is a safe a reliable location to explore both islands.
