“Great getaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

KBC restaurant Is great. Good food and great atmosphere. The Dutch Owner Hans, was like classic host from movies. He took his guests to his friends. Very warm experience In many ways.
Chalets were very basic. Room and a shower. What more you need, ´cos outside Is always so much better.
Makes me want to go again!

Room Tip: Rooms are what they are. Just for sleeping. Enjoy outdoors and friendly staff.

A bunch of parasites who think of themselves that they are sooo cool! But in fact, the staff doesn't know how to run a homestay and make people feel comfortable.
The worse memory of all Malaysia, although the island in itself is very beautiful.

We have been travelling south east Asia for 5 months and this was our favourite place so far! We stayed 5 nights but could have stayed months! We choose the cheapest room at 40 ringitt and it was all we need from a basic room.Clean, comfortable and mosquito protected. They have a range of more expensive less basic options also.

The staff are amazing! We got taken out on a trip to see baby turtles and snorkel, also the snorkeling hear was free to borrow and brand new. They really went out if their way to give us a fantastic time both in the rooms and the restaurant.

The food was delicious! The only problem was what to choose!

I really hope I get to spend more time here one day and congratulations to the staff and owners for making such a memorable paradise

This review score is based on the chalets. Marissa is the face of the place really and all the other staff are lovely, friendly and smile lots :) The chalets are clean and yes cold water and no sink (who cares!!!) and so relaxing.

The restaurant and the chalets are separately owned/run and it shows. We have never met such a rude bunch of travel workers who are the 'face' of the restaurant - what a way to show Europe off to the world with this bunch of grumps. They are unbelievable sometimes all smiles and happy then sulks and a grey mist appears over them individually or as a group. We met so many tourists/travellers who would not go there to eat. We spent a lovely night a KoKo's (new place along the beach, so friendly, good price and happy) with a Dutch couple, we were walking along to beach and they asked where to eat as they had been to KBC and the girl with the blonde dreadlocks (who was so fake, overfriendly one minute and cut you down with a dead stare the next) had been so rude to them that they wanted to go anywhere but KBC. Two American girls came up to me stunned after the tall fair-haired German guy from the restaurant had been so rude to them, they asked if the chalets were okay to stay in. YES! The chalets are friendly; just stay away from the grey mist of sour faces in the restaurant. We used the restaurant only for water in the end. I have never experienced such a grumpy lot! Silly people, working somewhere so nice and they just give off a vibe that you are not welcome and will spoil their self-perceived coolness.
On the day we left I asked the tall blonde chap for our bill and was treated to rudeness on a whole new level. Long story, but he huffed as we had not asked for the bill the night before (why would we there was nothing suggesting we had to) and said he would have to wake his boss for the bill (it was 9am and our boat was leaving at 9:30am), I waited whilst he stood and then proceeded to ignore me and did not go to sort out our bill.... he then went on to serve cups of tea and took more orders. So after 5mins of watching him walk past me and try to belittle me, I politely said we would be waiting on the beach for the boat and he can bring the bill over, I am polite but I am not going to be walked over and bullied. We did exactly that and he never brought the bill over. It was about 50r and we feel horrible for not paying it, but that man was so rude there was no way that I was ever going to walk back in that place again. Just horrible. So restaurant NO! But chalets a big hearted YES! :) - and eat at KoKo's! :) x

After spending over a month in Sumatra and Malaysia (including visits to the Perhentians and Redang), this humble, but deceptively beautiful isle stole our hearts. Untouched beaches with good snorkeling lie over the headlands and a jungle trek to the seaward side of the island is a great way to spend an afternoon. Expect black-tip reef sharks, giant pufferfish, and the occasional sea turtle in crystal clear waters. As for KBC - the bungalows are indeed simple and clean, but what sets this place apart is the restaurant area. The Dutch manager (all hail Hans!) runs the show with a tireless work ethic and makes sure that every guest feels at home. His garrulous personality creates an inimitable communitas among the guests and it is all too easy to stay more than a week in this special place. Although the island is a bit pricey, it's worth every ringgit as it has an unmatched atmosphere. Pulau Kapas or bust...

Room Tip: Room 1 is on the sea. Keep your doors closed in the late afternoon as the mosquitoes can be quite op...

To refer to some of the previous reviews... (which luckily I didn't read before I visited this awesome place)...
Yes, there was no sink in the bathroom, but there's a drain in the floor.. Does your western upbringing really mean you will DIE if you don't have a sink? I thought not.
Yes, creatures could get into your room if they wanted to, but the creatures of Kapas are beautiful and worth seeing. We had a 2 foot lizard in our bathroom, he was spectacular.
The food at the buffet, I concur, was a little pricey by "Malaysian standards" - at the time it was around 40ringgit for ALL YOU CAN EAT.. what's that? $8US? SPLASH OUT PEOPLE. - Also, being a westerner, I thought the food was AMAZING. The Malaysian girl I was travelling with didn't like it, as you could actually taste the --ingredients-- as opposed to a great deal of what asian peoples would expect in a meal; that being SPICES THAT BURN YOUR TONGUE OFF.

9/10 for the buffet. The mashed potatoes were divine!!! (and get at the chicken first, it goes quickest).

The owner, Cayen(ne?), is a top gent, and full of info about where to snorkel, walk and generally what to do on this fine tiny little island. But you shouldn't need too much prompting, because relaxation doesn't need much provocation or planning!

Stay here. It was probably my best experience in Malaysia 2012. :-)

Room Tip: If you have the opportunity, stay in one of the best cabins. It's a couple of bucks more and muc...

Overpriced and a little run down rooms, but there is a pretty friendly atomosphere.

The worse thing about this place is the restaurant, which i would avoid like the plague. We had been travelling up the east coast of Malaysia for over a month before arriving at KBC and the food was the most expensive and the least tasty of our now two months in Malaysia.

Room Tip: The longhouse at the back is really horrible, try and get one of the A frames if you can (they are 6...
