i stayed at the Miri Marriot again for 3 nights in early March. This time I had a tower room instead of a garden room. the room was a little smaller and had no balcony otherwise i had no complaints as before. food was good, rooms were clean and well maintained and the staff were very friendly and helpful. i had to do a little shopping and the porter's desk came up with some very useful suggestions for where i could find the things i needed.
all in all another fautless stay at the marriot, i did prefer the room with the balcony though.

Room Tip: ask for a garden room

until other hotels in Miri offers better...Marriot will draw the crowd of regular patrons. Thats perhaps has made Marriot somewhat boring. being a Marriot reward and club member...makes no difference there. zero priviledge, so don't bother joining either one, well, not for Miri anyway. expensive bland food (room service). liveless except for the pool. of course with the highest rate in town, the rooms are lavish....services unfortunately can leave a bitter taste. its an expensive weekend getaway...an excessive and overated 4 star. get on the plane and fly to Kota Kinabalu....its worth 10 times more.

The hotel facilities are OK (aging, but they are trying to maintain them) and the staff is generally friendly (except for those at the pool who pretend you are not there) but this trip was one of the worst I have ever taken because of the bug bites. Initially I thought they were bed bugs, but then I heard about the sand fleas that seem to be a known problem when the fleas make their way from the pitiful beach area and into the rooms. I asked for and got moved to a different room, but by then the damage was done and the large red welts all over my body prevented me from sleeping. I will not plan to come back.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms that are close to the beach

Our room, with a balcony, was facing the sea, so the sunset view from the room was awesome!
Being slightly "out of town" this hotel does provide a shuttle bus for guests to get into the city, to shop for local souvenirs to bring home.
Service was friendly and polite.

Room Tip: Get a sea-facing room.

Great facilities with a beautiful swimming pool and our rooms were sea facing and we could
enjoy the beautiful view from our balcony. Staff are very well trained especially Front Desk
staff who provided excellent services. Buffet Breakfast was great with lots of International variety. Clean room with comfortable bed with full amenities in bathroom. Dinner at the Zest Restaurant provided a wide range of International Menu and what we had was excellent.
