“A place to go to if you have some time to lose while in Miri”
Review of Crocodile Farm

Crocodile Farm

Attraction details
Reviewed February 18, 2014

A friend suggested to visit this place, and since we can't think of anything else to do in Miri on that particular day, we decided to do that.

The place is poorly maintained. It is possibly a nice place in its heydays. There is nice scenery of lake and everything, but poorly maintained.

Except for crocodile, the other animals look like they are there purely for display in enclosure that is rather small. No action or what so ever except for the sunbear. I am no fan of mistreatment to animals in such manner. As for the crocodile, despite having a bigger place, they look like they rather be somewhere else.

Only come here if you want to show your kids what real animal look like instead of having them looking at pictures or video. It might be fun for the kids. There is also pony for rental to ride. I read somewhere that crocodile is farm here for sale, hence 'crocodile farm'. Inquiry within if interested.

Admission charges for Malaysians are RM15 for adults and RM7 for children while foreigners are charged RM20 (adult) and RM12 (children).

My wife and I visited here during the monsoon season so the zoo was quite empty, it was only us and another family wondering around.

We paid 50RM for two people as the entrance fee.

The zoo was organised in a sense to give you an understanding of the lifestyle of the crocodiles and was set out from crocodile eggs, baby crocodiles, mating crocodiles, adult crocodiles, elderly and so on.

Especially the the baby and mating crocodiles were placed in a tiny concrete enclosure which was very over crowded. I saw one crocodile with a mutilated tail.

There were two snapping alligator turtles who seemed very depressed, they were also in a concrete enclosure with water that looked like it was never renewed.

A monkey was tied to a pole and the poor thing just kept going up and down as far as the rope around its neck would allow, looked very very depressed.

The exquisite birds all seemed suicidal, each pecking one another and one frantically flapping at its cage, clawing away as though to find an escape.

A zookeeper near the exit had a sunbear cub in a tiny cage and we paid him 10MR for him to allow the bear out, the zookeeper also gave the bear a full bottle of milk to drink "to entertain us" we sat with the bear till it drank it's entire bottle (which it literally didn't stop sucking, indicating the bear was starving) after we left we heard the bear scream as it was forced back into its cage.

I was very happy to leave this "attraction" and felt very sorry for the animals left behind.

This is a sad place.
Animals kept in inappropriate conditions, by staff who do not care summarises it.
If you visit this place you are supporting it. Do not bother.

There are signs of neglect on a lot of the animals.(infections, tumours etc) Some are tethered in place, some kept in cramped & dirty conditions, and the saddest sight is the Sunbear which is supposed to be a protected species in Sarawak.Poor thing does not have much of an existence and to me summarises the "attractions" state.

Fun fun fun, that's how I describe it.

I enjoyed it a lot! Tons of pictures and lots laughs.

You can actually play with snakes and bears and take pictures with them.
