Borneo is full of bugs, so the giant spider in our room is a natural thing, but it was immortal ;) The staff/owners (English Pilot and a Malay women) was very nice and help full. Ask them for a guy Mr. Chua (driver) that can take you to the caves etc. he was so nice and help full we really enjoyed a trip with him. The food and the view from the balcony was very nice, we had the room on the 0 floor with the AC. Fresh fruits from the garden (bananas, mango, rambutans) just plain awesome!!!!

Room Tip: Don't take the long house it's hot as hell there :)

A simple and peaceful owner-operated lodge about 20km south of Miri. The rooms are either longhouse lodge style or else more like a simple motel room in the main building with fan, AC and private bathroom. There's a small pool, and lovely tropical gardens with heaps of fruit and vegetables - the same ones you'll find in your dinner. Meals can be had at the little outdoor dining room. There are a few western choices but it's mainly local, made with their own produce when possible. The owners are friendly and the rooms are very clean. It's a good choice for simple accommodation and meals in a lovely, peaceful setting quite close to Miri.

[About us: We travelled as a couple and spent three nights at Treetops Lodge, with a trip to Niah Caves in between. We are vegetarians.]

The good:
-Idyllic setting, far away from town. Short walks nearby. Friendly villagers.
-Laid back, accommodating hosts
-A private beach fifteen minutes away (by foot) from the Lodge.
-Clean rooms with working fans and air conditioners.
-Delicious food, friendly cook
-Very friendly dogs (Sam and Lulu) and cats (with moustaches!)
- wifi

Notes:
-The Route 13 bus (right outside the Visitors' Center at Miri Town, RM 4 per head) takes you to Bakam village where Treetops Lodge is located. Remember to get off only at the LAST STOP (the last three or so stops are all in Bakam village). The lodge is more than a mile away from the main road so call them in advance and they'll pick you up.
-No alternative eating options nearby. If you haven't opted for the dinner-included-package, dinner costs about RM 20 per head. (The food though is delicious. We had vegetarian meals).
-Fresh fruit (grown at the lodge) is served with the meal and costs extra.(about RM 6 per serving)
- Transport from Treetops Lodge to Niah National Park is by taxi and costs RM 80 PER HEAD (return trip). A taxi to Lambir National Park is RM 60 PER HEAD.
THERE ARE NO DIRECT BUSES TO THESE LOCATIONS from Miri Town, we were told.
If you are on a shoestring budget and not driving a car, these costs could quickly add up.
The driver Dennis is an extremely friendly and nice man and will keep you entertained throughout the journey (he also treated us to tea and insisted on paying the bill himself).

Room tips:
Room 2 has a better view (of the garden).

Miri Traveller Tips :
1. The bus station is located outside the airport. (walkable distance). Route 22+28 takes you to Miri town (About RM 2 per head ).

2. Taxis to Miri town from the airport cost about RM 20 and can be booked in the hall after the Baggage Claim section.
TIP : Avoid the blue taxi stall at the center of the hall - that's the Deluxe Taxi that costs RM 30.

3. The Visitors Center is next to the bus station at Miri Town. Very friendly and helpful. Free maps, advice.
TIP: There is not Left Luggage / Locker facility at Miri town, so you should consider leaving your luggage at the Visitors' Center. (Check their timings)

4. There are no 'touristy' sights to see in Miri town. A visit to the Handicrafts Center (15 mins from the bus station by foot), a meal (look up street food recommendations online) and a walk through the markets should suffice.

(For questions about bus schedules, taxi fares etc, email the helpful folks at the Miri Visitors' Information Center : vic-miri@sarawaktourism.com )

Room Tip: Room 2 has the better view (of the gardens)

Spent two nights here and absolutely loved it. A gorgeous little place to relax, especially for nature lovers. Didn't even bother visiting the city itself. Hosts were lovely and very accommodating, and the vegetarian food was some of the best I've ever had. Beautiful surrounds - good for walking and running. I even fell in love with the resident dogs! Highly recommended.

We stayed two nights in oneof the air conditioned rooms of this delightful place. Great breakfast and great noodles at lunch time and a super terrace outside the rooms with comfortable outdoor furniture to sit with a book or a glass of wine or make use of the tea/coffee making facilities in the shared outdoor area. Lovely gardens to stroll around or you can take a dip in the small pool and there's a terrfic beach about 1k away. Laid back hosts who couldn't be more helpful and add to the overall calm amnbience.

We stayed in one of the air conditioned rooms for three nights. It was pretty basic - only a couple of hooks to hang our clothes - but comfortable enough. Lovely views from the first floor balcony over the Lembar hills. A ten minute walk to a wonderful beach and two lovely welcoming dogs and that's about it on the positive side. Breakfasts were poor. Very poor. On our first morning we arrived at the 'breakfast buffet table' to find some tea bags, a jar of instant coffee, a plastic box with sliced bread in and a small tray with probably the cheapest margarine and jams you'd find anywhere. That was breakfast. It got marginally better on the second morning when the owner served a tiny plate of fruit to us, and we had real butter(!) only because her husband had forgotten to get the cheap stuff from Miri. He was very unhappy about her serving the guests with his butter as those having breakfast clearly heard the heated words. Dinner, which was supposed to be tasty and filling was only ok on the taste front but I doubt if a small child who had just come back from a McDonald's would not have been able to find room for the food on the plate. We actually thought the portion served was a starter for one and not, as it turned out, the main meal for two!
It's a shame that the owners are prepared to cut so many corners to make maximum profit.

Breakfast is inclusive and to a budget (about RM 5 or one pound per person); there are plenty of a la carte choices available if guests want a full English breakfast". Butter turns to liquid in about 5 minutes in this heat (outside verandah for breakfast) and is not served normally.
Perhaps a 5-star hotel would have been more suitable for these visitors; the comments about "maximising profit" and "cutting corners" are rather abusive, inaccurate and uncalled for.

Really friendly owners, and we had a great stay in the longhouse. Just gorgeous, and it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. Very relaxing. Mosquito coils are provided, as are nets over the beds. Nice social area with fridge. Toilets and showers are at the far end of the longhouse and are open to the sky. There's no getting away that even with the electric fans, the longhouse is pretty warm, but I believe there are rooms with air con in the main house. There are wooden steps and a boardwalk leading to the longhouse, so bring minimal luggage.
Good breakfast provided. A great little place.
