Staying at turtle island is a great experience. Selingan island is a beautiful island and the bonus is being able to experience viewing the turtle lay her eggs and releasing the baby turtles into the sea. It was a little hard to get good pictures as it was too dark and with no flash allowed and many people trying to get a look, your time is limited! Still happy I saw it for myself. Even some of the hatchlings had hatched whilst we were there so keep an eye out and check the dates in the hatchery!
Overall I would recommend this experience

We took the trip in October and was fully prepared for the basic accommodation, food and facility on an island an hour from the mainland. The staff were all very friendly. While our own accommodation was clean, this did not extend to the main facilities at the restaurant where, although there were many staff members, toilets were left in remarkably horrible and very very dirty condition. You actually need to ask for toilet rolls. The times when we were there, no effort was put into cleaning the place. Unfortunately, unclean toilets seems a cultural wide problem in Malaysia.

We stayed overnight on the turtle island. It was great we say many baby turtles during the day including one unfortunate soul fighting to get out of the mouth of a lizard. The food was good and the staff very friendly. The snorkling was a good activity but it was quite fun just to walk around this beautiful island. The program was good we saw a mother turtle giving birth and a group of baby turtles returning to their natural habitat via a bucket... Good trip

This addition to our honeymoon was incredible - in several ways.
It's a great experience to shoot off in the speedboat away from Borneo to the Philippines to arrive at a postcard tropical island in the Sulu Sea.
Accommodation is as you'd expect and perfectly adequate, in fact we had quite a bad storm late during the night and I slept fine throughout feeling safe and cosy.
The turtle experience cuts both ways - it's amazing to witness the conservation program and to see the turtles, but as mentioned before this set up is poorly handled with regards to tourist numbers and behaviours.
Putting that aside it was a hugely informative and unique experience - we were also lucky enough to be taking a stroll at 6am before breakfast and saw a nest make a break for the sea - our own private showing!

The visit and overnight stay on Turtle Island was meant to be one of our holiday highlights but it failed to live up to expectations.

The boat journey to Turtle Island was an adventure in itself - a high speed journey of just over an hour. Our accommodation on the island was basic but we were prepared for that.

The disappointment was the turtle watching. No one is allowed on the beaches after 6.00 pm as the Park authorities don't want any turtles coming ashore to be frightened off. We were all kept inside the Visitor Centre until the 'turtle call'. This meant that a turtle had arrived on the island and had started to lay its eggs. We were then led to the place where the turtle had dug its hole and was laying its eggs. No torches were permitted except for the guide who shone a torch into the hole so one could see the eggs dropping into the hole. And that is all one saw. In the dark we couldn't even make out the turtle so I've still no idea of its size or colour!

In the morning we saw the tracks across the sand that had been made by other turtles that had come ashore the previous evening and they had crossed the beach and dug their holes well above the high water level. The number of new tracks suggested that there had been considerable activity the previous evening but nothing of this is ever seen by those visiting Turtle Island as visitors are restricted to just one egg laying episode.
