This is a very clean hostel and one of the best me and my friend stayed at during our threewees in Borneo. I got quite a shock when I saw how nice it was even though it was so cheap! They had a big nice "livingroom" with a flat screen and plenty of DVD's where you could hang out with other people and just talk of watch a movie. Toilets and showers: clean and nice. Kitchen: Big and you can use the fridge and cook your own meals if you want to. The only negative thing was that we didn't have any wall sockets in our dorm.

I stayed here twice after reading the good reviews. It was especially lovely to come back after a couple of dodgy accomodation experiences in Mabul. The whole place is cleaned thoroughly daily. The kitchen is small and spotless. They have small lockers, lovely showers and a drinks fridge with beers and cans. Some people were frustrated by there being only one computer that often one person was on for a long time but having been to many places that don't have one at all I would say this was just a bonus and it's worth getting a data card for your phone or device at any phone shop for 40RM. It is 25RM a night for a dorm bed and there are also nice rooms if you are in a couple. Excellent value. Thanks to the staff who were extremely helpful with my laundry.

Room Tip: Dorms are good but worth staying in a double if you are a couple

We checked out of the Sea View Budget Hotel & Backpacker Hostel and walked straight into this place. We were given a triple room for the price of a double - MYR60 per night - and it was well worth it. The place was spotlessly clean, there were clean toilets and showers towards the back of the floor, there was a big common area with sofas and a large flat screen TV with a good selection of DVDs and a small breakfast kitchen next to reception. We spent the evening with three Austrians and a Japanese traveller watching "Ted". There was coffee available all day and we were even given breakfast early because we had to depart for the airport early the next day. It's just across the road from the new harbouside shopping mall and handy for all the main cafes - especially two good curryhouses with twenty metres. If we were in Sandakan again we would not consider staying anywhere else.

Very good hostel near the harbourfront, across from the new mall. Close to the great Central Market. 5 min walk to the bus station on Jalan Pryer. The place just opened a few months ago, it's very clean and the people who run it are helpful and friendly. I paid 55 ringgit a night for a large aircon room with en suite bathroom, which I consider very good value. New, comfortable firm mattresses on the beds.

The largest, cleanest and most well kept and run hostel I have stayed in in Malaysia. Nice size dorm rooms, very secure, good reliable internet, big tv room with DVDs to watch. My friends got a double room and each got a double bed!! Breakfast was very good, free tea and coffee and cooking facilities too. Staff were very helpful in booking our next hostel in Semporna (although charged RM2 per minute on the phone).

Only negative thing was that Sandakan is a bit rough. Don't come here for Sandakan. It's a good place to stay for Sepilok OrangUtans (RM40 in a cab) or to book jungle river tours, but then head north to Kinabalu or south to Semporna.

Stayed for 3 nights in November 2012.
Great location, right near the seafront, near several restaurants (I can recommend the curry place next door), and by the new shopping mall. There was only a Mcdonalds and a few clothes shops when we were there, as it had only been open a few weeks, but new shops were opening there daily.
We had a double private room. It was quite small, but bed was comfy and air con worked well.
Shared shower / toilet were very clean and new looking, and staff cleaned them several times a day.
Breakfast in the morning was the basic help yourself to tea/coffee /toast, which was plentiful.
Lounge area was nice, good sofa's and TV and good selection of newish DVD's.
Wi fi was good strength, but could not get it in room.

Staff were helpful, and there were lots of folders and info about tours and company's to go on tracks with.
Good hostel, surprised by how nice my stay here was, one of the best we stayed in in Malaysia, and would definitely stay again.

I stayed some days there and was very much surprised. The dorm was friendly and welcoming. The aircondition worked smoothly. The dorm, toilet and shower was clean. They also have a very nice common living room with super DVD collection.

In a nutshel, I can highly recommend to stay there in case you are in Sandakan.
