“Good location, wonderful garden”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2014

I spent here 2 nights, while i visited Sepilok Oran Utan Rehabilitation Center (5 min by walking), Rain Forest Discovery Center (15 min by walking) and Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary (20-30 min by car). I had a standard air condition and own bathroom. Furniture little bit old, but is not so important. Main thing: room was clean. Nothing to complain about from my point of view. Buffet breakfast was included and it had everything you need for an usual breakfast except cereals. People are friendly even not all of them speak fluently English. Resort garden is just great, huge and is like a piece of jungle. While sitting out, you can see different kinds of birds. They have also a pool, i didn't try it, but as i saw, it as clean and people were joyning it.

Dear andreeamazilu,

Thanks for choosing to stay with us.

We are glad that you have enjoyed the beautiful setting. We have set aside 20 acres of land and plant a lot of native and fruit trees in our land. Now we are seeing that all the wildlife are happy with us.

That's why one can see a lot of wildlife especially birds just by sitting at Banana Cafe during their meals.

Will pass your compliments to our housekeeping and swimming pool and I am sure it will motivate them to work harder.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to welcome you again.

The Sepilok Jungle Resort may have been great when it first opened but since then it's been allowed to rot which is a shame.

The resort is just like a low cost airline you get your cheapish bed and then pay over the odds for poor food, overpriced drinks and use of the pool. The wifi is pretty useless in most places. The staff are generally uninterested. Unhelpful or rude but there are a few that at least try to look like they enjoy working there.

We stayed for 5 nights in a dorm as we were not allowed to change it to 3 (probably because there was hardly anyone staying there). The toilets and showers were not cleaned once and looked like they hadn't been cleaned for while before we arrived either.

I guess for the budget traveller it's passable. The beds were comfortable, the surrounding area relaxing and we met some great people there but there are too many bad points to be able to recommend it to others. There are a few better resorts/ options in the area including a nice lady who cooks cheaper food by the orang-utan sanctuary.

Dear Sean O,

Thanks for choosing to stay with us.

When a reservation is made for 5 nights, we will reserve the dorm for 5 nights and we will hold it and not to sell it to others. So if a guest wants to change it last minute, they would still have to pay for the remaining unused nights but what we do is we will continue to sell those rooms. If we are able to sell it, then the guests do not have to pay for it.

There is no place in whole of Sabah where someone is paying RM30 for a dorm with breakfast and it has a swimming pool facilities. We are the only one with such facilities. To use the swimming pool, it is only charged at RM5 per person per day and this is very reasonable. Hotel with a swimming pool may cost at least 5 times more than that.

We have a general cleaner who clean the toilet daily. I have informed them about it and thank for your feedback.

We are in the jungle. We pay for Wi FI and it is FOC for the guests convenience. Because we are in the jungle, the connection is unstable. Sometimes, it is good and sometimes it is bad. Please remember we are a small town and our Wi Fi speed may not be up to your standard.

If there is really urgent matter, guests could inform us and we can assist to use the Wi Fi in Sandakan which is better than the ones in the jungle. However, if the number priority for guest is to surf the internet, than staying with us may not be a good choice.

Those who stay with us because they love jungle and wildlife and they want to be free from internet once in a while. And most importantly, the close proximity to Sepilok Orang Utan Centre, Sunbear Centre and Rainforest Discovery Centre.

Thank you for your feedback.

We stayed there for 2 nights and used it as a base for visiting the nearby Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre (which can be reached in approx. 5-10 min. per foot) and the Rain Forest Discovery Centre (which is a 20min walk away, they shuttle you back to resort for 10 RM).
Location was good for our purpose, room (deluxe) was dated as was the wide spread resort (you have to walk around 5 min. to the restaurant). The resort setting was really nice, check in fast and friendly.

Breakfast was really poor, depending on the number of guest it switched between set and buffet style, but very limited choice. At the first day we got a set, they had 3 to choose, our selection came with 3 toasts, marmalade and butter barley enough for one, we had to ask for more and a so called “omelette” which was in fact a cold scrambled egg plus coffee or tee. On the next morning it was buffet style, same things like the set yesterday plus noodles.
On arrival we had dinner in the restaurant. Food wasn’t really good or bad, but as others mentioned, the atmosphere in the huge restaurant was a bit strange. Just a few other guests, no music and the Chinese lady was washing her hair in the restaurant during we ate.

We paid 170 RM per night incl. breakfast for a deluxe room, but for Malaysian standards 100 RM would be appropriate for what you get. Location was good and garden setting of the resort nice, but not really value for money.

Dear -Man0nTheMove-,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us.

We are happy that overall you have enjoyed your stay with us especially our garden except for the breakfast part.

We have passed your feedback to the kitchen and will make sure that food served is always hot.

We are well known for our close proximity to all the places in interest in Sepilok, namely Sepilok Orang Utan Centre, Sunbear Conservation Centre and Rainforest Discovery Centre.

We look forward to serve you again in the future.

We stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed it. It is so close to the Orangutan Sanctuary and Sunbear Sanctuary (5 min walk) and there are lots of tours around the area. The staff were helpful and the late opening reception is handy. The food was good, the portions aren't huge, but they are very reasonably priced. The rooms are large and nicely decorated and the resort has a nice jungle feel to it. A great place to stay if you love nature. They have a pond with turtles and terrapins next to the restaurant, and we even saw an orangutan at dinner!

Dear ClareTaylor60,

Thanks for choosing to stay with us.

We have planted a lot of fruits in our garden for the animals since 20 years ago when we first developed the land. We are happy that now the animals are enjoying it.

The Orang Utan is called Pugal, He always come here. In fact he was here again last night because it was raining heavily so he slept in the restaurant until the next day.

We will pass your compliments to the receptionist and kitchen.

Once again, thank you for choosing to stay with us and we look for to serve you again in the future.

We stay at Sepilok Jungle Resort for a night,It near Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary,it is a advance.Except the location, nothing worth to stay there,it 20 km away from sandakan airport,it will takes you RM40 to get there by a taxi .
when we arrived the resort,no bellman,no wellcome drinking, nothing.the facility in room is ok,towel hot water,AC etc.the TV is a very small antique tv,I am thinking whether it can be turn on?
It's too late to find a staff in reception to change room when we find molded sheet on the under layer. its over 9PM.but you cannot find any staff in recepion desk.
The high light of my experience is the taxi booking, you cannot find any taxi on the way to sepilok but i will leave the next morning. I had to book a taxi from the recepionist she called and ask me to pay rm20 cash in advance and arrange the taxi pickup in fron of the resort the next 7am.she give me a receipt of rm20.And she said the restaurant(Banana Cafe) will prepare a breakfast for us to takeaway.
But the next morning ,no taxi ,no breakfast,no receipionist, even ca not find a staff in Banana Cafe!
In a hurry,we have to find a local car to tranport us out of sepilok junction.
If you are interest in rainforest, never chose Sepilok Jungle Resort.there is a Sepilok nature Resort opposite the road ,its quite nice in environment and seivice is good,we had a decent supper in that hotel.

Dear bluestar320,

Thanks for choosing to stay with us.

FIrst of all, we are not a luxury resort and we are rated as a 2 star property. With the rates we are charging starting from RM28 per person per night to RM170 per room per night with breakfast, we cannot afford to have a bellman and welcome drink available.

We are providing a basic and comfortable accommodation for those people who want to experience the jungle. Our main reception is closed at 5pm and the second reception which is at Banana Cafe will be closed at 10pm.

We will brief to all guests when they check in. So it is important for guests to listen but if they choose not to listen and only want to do their own things, they may miss this information.

We are sorry about the transfer and breakfast. We have informed our reception to be more careful next time.

Once again, thank you for your feedback.

Me and My friend spent 2 nights at the hotel, the nature was amazing, a wonderful place, the room was great but...
The resaurang was one of the worst I ever been to! The food was fine but the waitress was unbelively lame! They were very lazy with everything they did. They didn't gave us the bill, they just said the price, me my self had to go and tell them that i wanted to pay. The breakfast was quite bad. When we booked the hotel it stood that the swimingpool was included but we had to pay for using it.
Well i would recomend this place, we really liked it but they really have to shape up the resturant.

Dear Gwendeline A,

Thanks for choosing to stay with us.

All guests staying with us need to pay RM5 per person if they wish to use the swimming pool. We are rated as a 2 star hotel and it is the only hotel in Sabah that is rated as a 2 star with a swimming pool facility. We do not include the operation and maintenance cost into our rooms and this is one way we can reduce the room rates for everyone.

Our official website have clearly stated this.

That is why our rates start from RM28 per person per night with breakfast to RM170 per room per night with breakfast. Other hotel with swimming pool will definitely charge more than that.

We are sorry about the slow service and we will continue to train our staff to be more efficient.

Once again, thank you for your feedback.

Outside interior is pretty amazing, but that is all what good thing I can say about this place . My room was really bad lots of mosquitoes, ants and spiders. Blanket was stinky, likely I had my own sleeping bag. Very noisy and loud from attached rooms, could not sleep at night. Food in the restaurant was really bad, fried noodles were burnt and burger for my dinner was not cooked, basically cold.Internet is not working, hot shower was running from time to time. In the beginning I was planning to stay there for two nights, but change my mind easily, not worth it as a solo or family traveller, especially with kids. This place needs some improvements, otherwise not recommended.

Dear PawelM1980,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us.

If someone chose to stay in a dormitory, it is sharing with others and it is courtesy to lower their own noise. We are sorry that sometimes guests are not so considerate.

All our rooms are netted with mosquito nets and if someone leaves their door opened, the mosquitoes will go in. Now is raining season and ants are moving from their nest in the ground. Sometimes they will go the resort's building. We are trying our best to keep them away but please bear in mind we are in the jungle and we are actually is in their environment.

We are sorry for the unpleasant food and we will continue to improve it.

Thanks for your feedback.
