“Semi-rustic vacay at the jungle's edge”

If you're looking to stay in the wild, but don't care for the tent and dinner-plate sized spider in your tent, this is a pretty good compromise. The rooms are a bit run down, the TV gets just 2 channels, and the air-con takes awhile to get working, but if you cared about those things, you probably wouldn't be considering this resort in the first place. What makes it a sweet stay is the location. You can enjoy your complimentary (though somewhat sparse) breakfast sitting next to the turtle pond. At night, you can hear the singing of birds and bugs. You can walk to the orangutan reserve, and the wildlife park is just a bit further down the road. Both are well worth the visit. Moreover, you will be far, far from the city noise of Sandakan, which as far as we experienced, is pretty much a waste of time (unless sitting in traffic is how you enjoy spending your holiday).

I should also not that the staff is mostly friendly. They're quick to bring beer to your table, even if they are late to bring the food (but that's Sabah for you). The desk clerk was nice enough to let us check out a day early for a full refund of what we'd paid ahead, with no hassles, no questions asked -- you might consider this standard courtesy, but in Sabah, this is exceptional service.

The only major annoyance was the 5RM fee for use of the pool. Not a lot of money, but not something you'd expect a resort to charge its guests for.

Stayed here with my fiance an our parents. Great walkable base to see the monkeys and reasonably priced for Borneo. The staff were helpful enough, there's a nice pool (you have to pay for it) and a reasonable restaurant serving local food and a few western dishes.

I'd suggest going for the most upmarket rooms that have aircon as I think this may be a different review without it. We booked some tours through the hotel which were great and enjoyed the walks through the forest to the restuarant.

We loved the beautiful environment.
Only a 5 minutes stroll from the Sepilok Rehabilitation centre.
Good swimming pool. Tast meals. Friendly Staff. Rooms a bit outdated and dark but clean. Especially loved the beautiful garden with the sounds of nature 24/24

This is a great little resort within walking distance of orangutans and all the wildlife Borneo has to offer. We had a couple of nights here whilst roaming around Borneo and visited the jungle twice during the day visits to see the Orangutans and once for a very special treat at night. The place comes alive but.... beware the leeches.... they will get you!!

No pain, do issues but they are funny little things!! Well worth it for the wildlife though and wouldn't have missed it for anything.

Resort is amazing with great breakfasts and food all round. Nothing like kicking back in a massive rain storm with a cold beer!

We chose this for a family holiday to be close to all the wildlife attractions near Sandakan - Labuk Bay and Sepilok. What strikes you is a no nonsense room well located to the Orangutan Reserve and rainforest discovery centre and very pretty water bodies. Expect to see hornbills and a variety of other birds. The menu is interesting and we enjoyed the food. My son and I went fishing in their lake and caught a few fish which we were happy to put back !! The staff can be lazy and moderately helpful but dont be expected to be fawned over at this resort. All in all worthwhile for a short stay 3 days but for more luxury try their neighbour with a similar sounding name.

Room Tip: They will pick you up from the Sandakan Airport for RM20 pp...if you are 3 or 4 take a cab , bargain...

We stayed here for three nights in November 2010. We were tired of basic backpacker accommodation and thought we would treat ourselves to a bit of luxury by staying somewhere with a pool and a gym.

The staff were pleasant but the accommodation and facilities were very tired and in need of renovation. Rooms were clean enough but quite dusty with tired bed linen and grubby bathrooms. Some of the rooms have a lot of dark wood and are very dark and depressing.

The food was pretty appalling and we didn't manage much of the breakfast (and my fiance is not fussy!). We had dinner one night which was bland and overpriced.

The pool is nice but the "gym" can't really be called a gym. The running machine had no cable and so couldn't be used and the bike had no resistance so was pointless. The floor is concrete and there were huge ants everywhere. There is no air conditioning and it was a useless room really. I know most people wouldn't be bothered about this but I feel it sums up the false image that this resort portrays.

If you are looking for reasonably basic accommodation for a night or two whilst visiting the Orangutan sanctuary and to visit the Probiscis monkeys then great. If you are expecting anything more then you are going to be disappointed. Sadly, like most places we came across in this part of Borneo the hotel needs some major investment to restore it to what was probably once a reasonably nice resort.

We have advertised ourselves as a 2 star resort and having a gym is not required as part of its facility. However, this is an extra service that we provide and thus we are unable to provide a full gym. Gym room to us is fan so that user could sweat it out and most of the full gym in Sandakan runs with fans.

We are in the jungle and definately there are ants. We are unable to wipe them out entirely and we need them for our eco system. It is common to see them around the garden and rest assured their nests are not in the gym room. they are just passing by.

we do hope that you did enjoyed your stay even though you have given us the lowest satisfaction but you did stay 3 nights.

Nice hotel with decent rooms. Staff only wanted to sell their overpriced tours and transfers. Refused to tell us there were much cheaper and convenient transfers available, even when asked directly. This was very unscrupulous.

One of the reason we do not mention any cheap transfers is because most of the times (based on 16 years of experience), the guests were not able to go to the desired location. Either they have gone to another location or they have missed the transfer. there is only 1 public bus that goes to sepilok and it arrives every hour and the time is not fixed.

Please bear in mind that we are in the jungle and most of the local people are not able to speak fluent English.

Additionally, the tours that we are selling is definately not overpriced. If one does a little shopping in Sandakan, he/she will find out that the tours we are offering is the best value in the market. Of course, if the tours are compared to backpackers, then we are more expensive but you will enjoy much much more and you will get your value back. instead of staying in dorm, one could stay in room with attached bathroom with just additional RM30.00 per person.

Also, we are committed to our environment and because of that, we will pay RM10 per person to Kinabatangan Corridor of Life Tourism Association everytime we do a tour for guest. This association has done great things to preserve the area.
