This lodge is located within walking distance to the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre. The breakfast was decent - eggs and toast. It was far to walk to the restaurant. The place had a pool, but you have to pay to swim.

We were a party of eight (six adults, two children) who had booked two double fan rooms plus one four-sharing room via email. I reconfirmed the booking with them about a week before travelling.
On arriving for check in at around 5pm, we were told that they did not have our two double rooms available - they only had two four sharing rooms free. After some debate among the staff, they instead gave us two four-sharing rooms plus one twin with air-con, for the same price as our original booking. Once we agreed this, they took the key deposit off us but then forgot to give us the keys. We stood there waiting, and after a few minutes asked them if we could have the keys. The member of staff then huffed, and went to fetch the keys. We found this rude, and got the impression that we interrupted her chatting.

We were then shown to our rooms. The twin with air-con had very tired linen, and the appearance of the towels did not make you want to use them. We had a child's car racer mat on the floor, plus a Star Wars rug. Not very jungle-resort-ish. There were holes in the mosquito netting over the window. We pushed the two beds together to make a double, but the beds were rock hard and very uncomfortable. However the room was spacious and came with a kettle and (small) tv.

The four sharing rooms were very cramped, the beds and sheets were satisfactory at best. Four beds were crammed into a room the same size as the twin. There were exposed wires in the lighting and plug sockets were hanging off the wall. The bathroom sink was stained brown and also hanging off the wall. The water was leaking in the bathroom and running across the floor. The room was also extremely thin walled - you could hear the people in the next room typing text messages on their phone and there was grating at the top of the walls between the rooms and next door's light shined through into the room. The mosquito netting at the top of the wall facing the outside was also full of holes. The room was also right above the kitchen where we could hear them washing up until the early hours of the morning and could smell all the food.

There was a nice atmosphere in the cafe, and it was nicely set out. However the food portions are not consistent - we ordered a bowl of noodles which could have fed four and a plate of chips which didn't even feed one. The service was poor and the staff seemed like they grudged being there. At breakfast, it was a choice of scrambled or fried eggs with toast and a chicken sausage. If you were an adult you got either tea or coffee, or a child got orange or mango juice. One adult wanted juice instead of tea but was told she would have to pay for it. One of us didn't even get offered a drink, and another one of us didn't even get offered the breakfast, we had to ask. We got the breakfast eventually, but no drink.

Prices in the restaurant are very expensive compared to other local cafes in Malaysia - a drink was around RM3.50 and a plate of fried rice was RM10. Chips (a small plate) were RM8. A can of drink was RM3 - in the cafe next to the Orang centre they are only RM2.

We were disappointed that they did not put the walkway lights on after dark so that you could go for an evening stroll.

The location and grounds of the resort are the redeeming points - it is the closest accomodation to the Centre and you can walk it in ten minutes. There are lovely plants around the hotel too. But I feel that they could do so much more with the place - it is very tired and run down and in desperate need of renovation. We feel that they use their excellent location as a trade-off for old, tired rooms and poor service. It has the potential to be so much better.

If guests refuse to pay a deposit to secure its rooms, we will release their rooms after 3pm as we have encountered too many non show bookings, otherwise it is very difficult for us as we have to keep the unsold rooms which could have been sold to other guests.

To make our guests happy if they show up, we will upgrade their rooms at no extra costs.

The four sharing fan room is meant for the budget conscious traveller and thus do not have the luxury of space. There are 4 singles bed, a cupboard, a table and a chair and the attached bathroom for a price of RM33.00 per person with breakfast.

Breakfast has a choice of scrambled eggs/fried eggs with hot dog and free flow of coffee/tea placed on the main table. Guests could just go there and get their own drinks. Juices are offered to children only as the adults could opt for the free flow coffee/tea unless they are staying in the more expensive room.

Sepilok Cafe only operate certain time in a day unlike us that operate from 7am-10pm. it increases our operation costs. We are about 1 hour from town centre to buy groceries and that is why our food is more expensive then the local cafe.

The receptionist did not huffed, she was having a bad cough and is recovering.

Cheap accommodation(standard room with fan) with attach bathroom which I thought shared bathroom with the others guest. Stay just for 1 nite, dining area with wifi in the middle of jungle and easily can recharge laptop at the dining area. Food and drinks with reasonable price. Walking distance only about 10 minutes to Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. The staff were friendly and helpful and it's easy to get transportation.

We were surprised to view a couple of hornbill to stop at the top of a big tree around 50 meters away from our room just when we seated ourselves in the chair on our balcony after a long tired trip. It seemed a gift to us.

Marvelous garden.

Room is nice, clean, and comfortable.

Strongly recommend this hotel.

We booked here for 2 nights and found some of the staff rude at times. One of the waiters was always moody and made you feel you were a hassle to him. one afternoon during lunch, there was a huge arguement between the staff and a local lad and a glass was thrown and smashed in the dining area. No appologies were given to the guests. The rooms however were comfortable and walking distance to Sepilok orang-utan centre.

So sorry that you have to go through this. What happened was that a guy just came out of no where and was not happy with one of the staff and he just throw a bottle to my staff. We have since lodged a police report.

This is the first time it happened and my staff is given warning already as he is not delivering the best customer service to you. Once again, sorry.

We asked them to organise everything for us including airport pick-up, accommodation, day tour and airport drop-off. Nothing went wrong and the tour to Kinabatangan River was excellent. Only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Yes, the pool costs extra, but it's run by a separate organisation.

Room was large, clean and comfy, with towels changed daily, kettle and a jug of water provided. Small Tv, huge bed and small bathroom waith shower.
Rooms are not exactly stylish, but are excellent value for money. We stayed in a superior room with air con and it was very comfy.
Only downside was that we did not have an umbrella provided for the dash to the restaurant.
Surroundings are very jungle-y. Pool area is nice (pay 5MR daily to use it). Restauarnt is cheap and good qulaity (mainly chinese rice & noodle dishes). Breakfast was included and consisted of 3 toast with eggs either fried or scrambled. Some days we got 2 beef sausages and fruit, sometimes not. tea and coffe also included.
Beer is quite pricey.
Free wireless internet.
There is a shop about 10-15 mins walk away for cheap beer, snacks and essentials.
The orangutan sanctuary is 5 mins walk away and there's usually a taxi driver parked before the entrance.
We paid taxi driver 100MR to be driven to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctaury. We were picked up at 8.30am and driven there for the early feed (9.30) and we were the only people there! Got really close to the monekys! After we went to the main feeding station for the 11am feed. Our driver waited all morning and driove us back at about 12.30 so we were happy to pay the 100RM. Entrance is extra.
Rainforest Centre is 10 mins walk form the hotel.
A taxi to Sandakan cost 40RM and the airport 35RM.
Over all the hotel is very good value, not too buggy considering the location.
We stayed over Chinese New Year and the owners invited us to a big lunch with their family, and there was a Lion Damce show. Really good hospitality.
