This hotels provides excellent service for its customers and in particular they are meticulous. My colleague & I was there and upon check out we left the reception waiting for our transport to airport. There came the reception staff with my colleague's wallet full of cash. I'm truly touched by the honestly of the staff. Do request for seaview / harbour view during check in. Breakfast selection was average but it was compensated with the South China Sea view which was a good trade off!!

Without a doubt the best hotel around. Don't be scared off by its immediate five star appearance. We got the three days for price of two which is a little over fifty us per night.the infinity pool- where I am right now is to die for. Boo on lonely planet - sadakan is great. Huge selection of cheap local food. It's fun sitting on the waterfront sipping a cold beer and watching the fishing boats go by. The whole city has been friendly, accommodating and the smiles are contagious. You could stay here take a car trip out to proboscis and orangutans and river trip if you wanted. I'm adventurous but the luxury of the hotel and staff is inviting and addictive. A small piece of heaven- thank you sheraton

Room Tip: Get a corner room if you can with a harbour view- the breakfast is great and worth it too.

I and my two grown-up children stayed in the Four Points over the recent Chinese New Year holidays. With our previous less than satisfactory experience with hotels in Sandakan we were looking forward to staying in this new hotel.

We took two rooms, one of which was the Deluxe Executive Room.

The hotel entrance was a disappointment. We walked into an empty space which appeared to act as a lift lobby with a table of flowers and a concierge desk. There was no signage or verbal indication that the check-in desk was on the first floor except the presence of two unsightly escalators on the right of the front door. Basically there was no check-in staff in sight; so disorientated guests had no choice but to try their luck going up the escalators looking for them. It makes no sense that the reception is hidden up a flight of escalators when the huge ground floor “welcome foyer” only houses a tiny concierge desk and a huge table.

The welcome package was a pleasant surprise and included free pressing for 2 items of clothing, free snacks and drinks (including wine and beer) every evening at the Executive lounge and free Wifi.

The rooms as expected, smelled and looked new and clean with a great view of the Sulu Sea and Sandakan town. Even the lounge and the lift lobbies had breathtaking views. Deluxe Executive room size was more than adequate.
Had no problem with the air con.

The infinity pool on the 13th floor was quite small but the view was spectacular.

The location was convenient and smack in town. The presence of the local wet market next to it did present its downside, with frequent wafts of rather unpleasant fish pong at the entrance. This hotel was part of a new development in town and was linked to a new but lackluster shopping mall. Making one’s way through the poorly air-conditioned mall, one could conveniently walk out to some new eating places and shops around the hotel.

The lifts however were a great let-down. Throughout our 3 day stay we noticed that only 2 of the lifts ever worked at any one time. Guests had to wait for a very long time for the lifts. I noticed one family with several young children huddled together in their wet towels and swimming costumes waiting and waiting ... and waiting... for the lifts to take them up their room. Worse, the lifts had a life of their own - they often did not respond when guests inserted their room keycards; more than once I experienced the lift “ignoring” my floor and just going past the floor even though I had pressed the button of our floor. There were times when the button we had pressed suddenly went unlit as the lift travelled up. It looked like Management just didn’t see the need to call their engineers to get those exasperating lifts working properly.

Many of the staff were pleasant but lacked professionalism. More than a few however were downright rude. When we alerted the malfunction of the lifts to a staff member he not only did not thank us for informing him he started telling us that the lifts did not work properly only because we did not know how to use the lift!

In another incident, the chambermaid rang our doorbell to make up our room in the evening. We were getting dressed and told the girl to return 10 minutes later as we were getting dressed and would leave the room in 10 minutes. When we were leaving, we did not see the chambermaid’s trolley so I went to Reception to tell the staff to inform housekeeping to make up our room. The staff named Saima was obviously not in a happy mood and without a hint of a smile, told me, “I am not sure if they are still available to make up your room. You let me check first!” then fiddled with the telephone. That is not the type of reception a hotel receptionist gives to her Deluxe Executive guest.

At the end of our stay we called for a bell boy to take our bags down. It took us 35 minutes and five calls before one person turned up with a tiny push trolley. We were a group of 4 adults and had more than 8 pieces of luggage. When we told this person, Zusman, to please take our luggage to the hotel entrance fast as we were running late, he argued and said it was our fault that we did call for bell boy service earlier (35 minutes calling for service!) and that we should have told him that we had so many bags so that he could bring up the “correct” baggage trolley!

Obviously the staff had not been properly lectured on the importance of manners and public relations in the hospitality business.

If the behaviour of some of the staff hadn’t been so obnoxious, I would say we really did enjoy our stay. Best likes were the complimentary snacks and drinks in the evening, the free Wifi, the superb view of the beautifuI sea and the self-playing grand piano.

It is great that Sandakan finally has a trim and clean hotel.

Stayed 2 nights at Deluxe Seaview King room for RM203/night. For the price and international hotel, no doubt about the standards.

One disappointment is the aircon temperature cannot be adjusted. Daytime the room is cold but middle of the night become warm. The management need to look into it.

As a SPG member, we approached the SPG counter to check in but asked to go to common check in counter. Feel not respected.

Beside that, overall, have a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Request seaview room at higher floor.

We appreciate your comments regarding the aircond temperature control in your room. Rest assured, this issue has been highlighted with the Chief Engineer to check the air-con control unit frequently to avoid similar problem from occurring in the future.
