The drive up is an adventure by itself. The S bends are worthy of a photography stop. Once you reach the temple, you will marvel at the scenery of Sandakan town centre and the calm sea. Set your camera to panorama mode to for maximum effect. I can't think of another temple in Malaysia with views like this one. Don't try to hike up to the temple. It's too tiring and personal safety is also a concern. Yes, this is a stop that must not be missed.

Simply one of the most beautiful Temples I've ever had the pleasure to visit. You can't really describe how incredible the inside of the temple is - colours of gold and rich red, with the enormous statues, it's breathtaking. Definitely worth the visit - entry is a donation towards their book printing.

If you're in and around Sandakan town and think that you've done the bulk of your heritage trail within the town centre, think again! If you're keen to get an even more panoramic view of Sandakan town than that of Balin Rooftop Garden Restaurant, head on out to Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple. It's located about 3-4 km off from town and takes about a series of winding path uphill before you finally arrive at the foot of the temple. Head on up a few flight of steps before reaching the peak where you are able to grasp a commanding view of the whole of Sandakan town as well as the Sulu Sea. There is an attraction point on the tourist information centre stating that you will be able to grab a great view of Labuk Bay on a clear day, but we didn't quite orientate ourselves well enough to see it as it was raining heavily.

One of the most beautiful temple in Sabah! Visited here quite a number of times and still won't bored. I remembered The Amazing Race season 4 US version came here!

We stopped at the temple before visiting and doing a quick tour of Sandakan before our flight back to KK. The principle attraction really is the stunning view over the city itself. The inside of the temple is certainly attractive and peaceful but wouldn't warrant a long stop.
