“Facilities and Location: A Staff: C Food: F”

The title pretty much says it all. It was very close to the rain forest, and not far at all from the orangutan rehab center (although 8 miles from the closest ATM, wish I knew they only take cash before I got there). Room were fairly clean, with A/C and warm water (I had to kill a fairly big spider in the bathroom, but no biggie). And the private porch on the back was fantastic!

The staff didn't come across a very friendly. They were not very welcoming, and thought they gave me clean towels and more soap after requesting it, they seemed to have a chip on their shoulder.

And then the food.... Awful! In fact it was so bad, we didn't bother eating dinner our third and final night there. We thought it would be better to load up on snacks, we got at the super market we had to go to for an ATM.... which again, was 8 miles away. There are not a lot of other options for food in the area.

Overall, the facilities and location trumped the so-so staff, and the awful food, but there are other B and B's in the area, which have the same location advantages, so I would recommend looking elsewhere in the area. Just my thoughts.

Stayed at the Sepilok B&B for a week and didn't want to leave. It is located close to the Rainforest Discovery Center, and about a 15-20 minute walk to the Orang utan Rehabilitation Center. Melissa and Robert (and Eddy) did a fantastic job of making my stay special. There is a large range of accommodation spread across the lovely grounds. They offer everything from camping with a shower and toilet block, to fan rooms, to new, air conditioned rooms (hornbill building), to a large air con suite with kitchen (pitta building, just opened). They also have a new meeting or classroom facility comprised of a large covered, open air room with seating for about 100 (guessing) with overhead fans.

I stayed in Room 1 (an older large air con room near the kitchen) and H8 (a new air con room in the hornbill building). The first was average, but clean and large with a nice porch close to the kitchen. It had a king bed and set of bunk beds suitable for a couple plus 2 children. The H8 room was similar in set up, but being new, was very clean and very comfortable with a more western feel. Room H8 is on the second floor, so has its own balcony; a perfect place to relax with a beer at the end of the day, and watch the birds go bye. (Can of beer 8 MR).

Furnishings were ample, and well made with some tables and desks of particularly nice woods. There was a TV, but no fridge. For those getting up early, hot water for instant coffee was available downstairs in an open lounge/common area, as was filtered drinking water for filling water bottles.

The food was average but clean, with breakfast a bit light. Generally there was either fried noodle or fried rice with toast and bananas starting at 7am. The coffee was pretty bad, but the tea much better. Beer and soda was available all day till 10pm. Note that the RDC has a small, but excellent lunch buffet if you want a change. Food is also available on the roadside near the Orangutan Center, and at the Orang Center until around 5pm.

Yes, I would recommend this place!

Room Tip: Pitta building is just opened and has two large rooms, each with toilet, joined by a common area an...

We stayed at the Sepilok bnb twice. We used the place as the pick up and drop off point for the Kinabatangan jungle trip.

The place was great but a bit expensive if you choose one of the deluxe rooms. The only down things is the food. The only place to have something to eat is the common cantina and the menu can be a little boring if you staying there for two or more days.

The is a very well asorted grossery store just down the road from the bnb. You can buy alcohol there as well among lot of other things.Just turn left when you reach the road from the bnb. If you turn left you get to the Urangutang preservation center.

The wash cloth from day to day for 10 MYR pr. kilo.

The bnb contains of a handfull of houses with space for four private rooms. The rooms had there own terraces and toilet and bathroom. Everything was clean and tighty. The room and the terrace had fans installed and the room also got aircon.

Right next to the houses the jungle and you can hear it.

The manager speaks English, Malay, Mandarine and Cantonese and many more languages. So no lost in translation situations.

Stayed one night and it was really nice after doing a lot of trekking. Shower was excellent. Meals were good, breakfast was good. Location is ideal for travellers. Bed was very comfortable and slept really well.

We stayed one night. The guy at reception was really helpful and very friendly. Our room stunk which was not very pleasant. The communal lounge area was very nice. The food at the restaurant was really good. The beds were really squeaky and quite uncomfortable but it a nice place to stay. The location was great. Walking distance to the Orangutan Sanctuary and Rainforest Discovery Centre.

We stayed two nights in one of the cabin-like rooms with air conditioning. The room was large, with two bunk beds in addition to a queen size bed. Very pretty! There was also a sofa and table, and a private deck. The owner helped get the electric shower working and after than, it worked well. There were ants that came to eat the soap in the bathroom so you might want to keep the soap someplace away from ants one you've taken in out of the package and used it.
Wi-Fi was free and worked well. Breakfast was included with the room but we never made it over in time to have any, we were always at the Rainforest Discovery Center during their breakfast hours. It would have been nice ot have had some type of hot water maker and coffee service int he room. We had 2 dinners in the restaurant. Food was good quality but some things I just didn't like. There was no service in the room to make up the bed after the first night but we did ask for fresh towels and these were willingly provided. If in the area, I would stay here again.

I stayed in two different rooms here and both were very basic - either bunk beds or two singles. They have some rooms for couples but overall I was very surprised after reading other people's reviews at the number of bugs in my room, the fact that the shower sprays all over the bathroom and the really moldy mattresses and pillows. I travel quite a bit and by no means expected a great hotel (and I know bugs must be a constant battle in Borneo!) but with several other hotels along the same street I would look elsewhere.
