Owner description: RDC is first and foremost an environmental education centre managed by the Sabah Forestry Department. It has been operating since 1997 but mainly for school visits and organising events for school students and also teacher training courses on environmental education. It was later developed for visitors mainly to sustain the environmental education programme for the future. We formally opened to visitors in August 2007 and is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. However, visitors are allowed to stay until 7 pm for viewing of the flying squirrels at the 347-m long Canopy Walkway, the only such structure in Southeast Asia. The newly revamped Birders Rest is now with a 90 m-long walkway, an open hall, a small centre and toilets. As of Nov 16th 2013, we have a new operator for the Keruing Cafe whom we hope will provide better services for our visitors.

This place were a wonderful place, and a terrific spot for birdwatchers! Here it's possible to see and photograph many rare, beautiful birds!
If you are new to the bird-watching, bring a guide that can show you all the birds and tell you about them!

this is also a very nice way to come close to the nature! Very beautiful!

This is a really interesting centre. We were only here for 2 hours (due to the free shuttle from our hostel) and it was not long enough.
We were very respectful of the wildlife, and quiet during our trip round (unlike a lot of other people), and were rewarded by two Orangutans appearing in front of us and stopping to look at us, on their way through the jungle. The experience at Sepilok was great, but somehow here they seemed more 'wild' and therefore a more fulfilling experience. The flying foxes are interesting (if you are lucky enough to see them).
Lots of plants and flowers to look at.
The treetop walk is interesting. We were there in rainy season - wear boots, we had several leeches on them by the end, despite it being mainly paths and walkways.
The only issue was the loud Malaysian tourists, frightening away the wildlife!
There is a little cafe and refreshments available.
Definitely worth a visit, highly recommend.

A very well organised sanctuary doing some great work rehabilitating orang-utans. Lots of great info and the best place to see oran-utans outside of cages

If you love nature then this is a great place to be. Enjoy the many species of trees and plants which are simply unique to the rainforest in Malaysia. Ig you are not fainthearted you should try the Jambatan Gantung and canopy walk. You will love it!
