Went there twice. First time in the evening simply for an after dinner coffee and cognac on a Saturday evening at 8.30pm. The place shuts at 9pm so we just managed to get our drinks before they closed. If you order Borneo coffee (which is not on the menu) you will get a decent coffee unlike the Nescafé which is on the menu.
Next day we visited again to have a proper cream tea. Daylight meant great views over the harbour and town and a shady spot in the garden under the trees. As we come from England we know what a good cream tea should be like, and we have had much better cream teas in Devon and Cornwall where the clotted cream is as thick as butter and the scones and strawberry jam of a much higher quality, but I guess most visitors to this place in Sandakan won't have the chance to taste the real thing in the West Country in the UK.
However, it is worth a visit if only to see something which is a bit quirky in Sandakan.
