“A quiet break from Sandakan”
Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

We went here on Christmas day following the recommendation of another tourist. We only had tea as high tea didn't appear on the menu yet others who arrived later were able to order it. A nice break from the staring eyes of locals in Sandakan but not overly amazing

“Pricey and not that great!”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

Whilst offering a great view and lovely ground - perhaps better for high tea or coffees etc.
Dinner was over priced and terrible cocktails (Mojitos). We had fish and chips and the fish was lovely but the side serve of salad and sauce was very average.
Worth a visit to see grounds and have a game of croquet on the lawn but give dinner a miss...

“Disappointing”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

The ambience of this colonial style rest area was nice enough. However, the plain and thick scones were a disappointment. The small slices of cake and tarts were terrible. My family bakes better cakes! And the scenery from this place was disturbed by the electrical wires. A definite no-no for visitors!

“Great Food and Service, Excellent Setting, Elegance, and Reasonable Prices”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

What more could you ask for. Some “Colonial” places can be really tacky, but this is very good.

The setting is very nice, overlooking the town and sea. The building, with its crocket lawn felt very comfortable, and the service makes you feel very welcome. We took our time and sat by the lawn before selecting a table and eating dinner. The staff brought us iced water, and iced towels while we waited; there was no pressure to eat quickly.

I had the Chicken Curry, and my wife ate Fish (Barracuda) & Chips, both were excellent, and at MYR 55.00 for both meals, it is excellent value as well.

Note to owner: Our server was Normalin, I can’t think of anyone giving us better service anywhere.

“Afternoon Tea in Stunning Suroundings!”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

I loved this place. I had afternoon tea under the gazebo. It was better than afternoon tea I have had in some swanky hotels in London.

The sandwiches were fresh and old, the scones were freshly baked and still warm and the clotted cream was Devine with homemade strawberry jam!

I finished the whole lot including the tartlets.

A must for all visitors to sandakan, it was a perfect end to hard mornings trekking.

Thank you.........
