Recently returned from a trip to pom pom booked by my GF

i had read the reviews briefly and seen the pics and was very excited.

Flight from KL early morning to Tawau. then a 1 hour car journey to Seporna. we were collected at tawau airport which i was pleased about and taken to the jetty, the car journey was smooth just lots of palm trees not much to see in tawau. we then jumped into a speed boat along with luggage, again boat was waiting for us and no delays, very pleased. the boat journey took around 40 mins and you could see islands after around 10-15 mins, as we got closer & closer to pom pom got very excited and we were not disappointed, we were greeted by the picture esq clearn sea, beautiful sea, welcome to pom pom sign and a welcome drink and quickly signed in and had luggage taken to room.

the island is small only taking 30 mins to walk around with only around 26 villas. we decided on the garden villa rather than sea huts and were happy.

the island is pure, clean & stunning beautiful and a kept secret feel about it. there were very few other guests during the time we went, we got the feeling not many knew about it and hoards go to Malbu or maldvies etc.. we were actually the only 2 guest doing diving, and enjoyed relaxed one to one training with dive instructor mason who was fantastic and a great laugh. we saw some amazing sea life including daily sea turtles, but the lion fish scared me to death lol

very few downsides other than maybe i'd prefer not to have had buffet style food (breakfast/lunch dinner) all you can eat. quite a few of the days seem to have grilled tuna & chips when i was hoping to get some great sea food.. but hey life too short to worry about food, but did enjoy afternoon tea & donuts after a long day dive training.

one of my best holidays ever. the sea and beach very few places can rival

Thank you Pom pom. hope see you again soon :)

My family and I spent 3 days at the Pom Pom resort (2 teenagers) and all thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a beautiful place to chill on the beach and to dive or snorkel. We have snorkelled all over the world and this was right at the top of our experiences. The water is amazingly warm and clear and full of abundant sea life. In fact we saw many things just from the pier including sea turtles, stingrays, cuddle fish and lion fish. On that note there are many lion fish that hang out under the pier, so beware as they have a deadly sting. However we never saw any on our snorkelling trips so it wasn't a problem. We did see many giant sea turtles on our snorkelling trips and a huge variety of fish and corals. The prices were also quite reasonable at about $30 (US or Canadian) per person for a 3 hour trip.
We stayed in the beach villas, which were very big and comfortable. The food was reasonably good but a bit bland compared to what Malaysian food can be. The highlight was that the baked a variety of fresh breads and donuts on site which were delicious (although not very Malaysian). The staff were all friendly and helpful although not quite as well organized as they could be (ie. not as good as the service in the Danum Valley, Borneo Rainforest Lodge).
I would recommend this place for anyone that likes a quiet beach location and great snorkelling/diving.

The paridise for snorkling and diving even for young children. Once has so much sea life next to the beach.
A perfect place to go for your Padi licence with Eleonora and Ferdinando. My younger son passed it with pleasure while we went for Nitrox certification. All done seriously in good humor.
The villas are large and all close to the central loundge.
Yes its an expensive place to go to but you get what you pay for.
The Italian manager is looking closely to the good service we expected ( no always the case in other hotels in Malaysia ...)

Room Tip: All good , depends what you want to pay.

Firstly, i believe this island is no longer called Sipadan Pom Pom, but rather just Pom Pom Island Resort. So if you are heading there to dive Sipadan, then this won't be the right resort for you. However, if you are looking for another fantastic island getaway, then yes, Pom Pom can be on your short list.

Getting to resort:
Transfer was well managed by resort, pick up on time and at various locations that you desire. I had my pick up at a Tawau Hotel rather than from airport as i stayed over at Tawau the night on arrival.

A big bus picked us up and dropped us off at the jetty and afte r which, an approx 20- 30 mins fast boat right.

Resort ground:
Resort is situated on Pom pom island and shared with another resort. I heard another resort (small property) is being build as well. it takes about 40 mins to walk around the entire island. There is really nothing much you can do on the island except for diving, snorkelling, bird watching and doing nothing but chilling and reading a good book. There is a spa center catering different treatments, however, prices are pretty steep in my opinion if you compare the average Malaysian spa price.

Staff:
All crew are a delight and the highlight of the resort. Full of smiles and greetings from the boat crew to the garden sweeper, housekeeping, F&B, dive center guys etc. They are vey accomodating to make sure that they try fulfil your request.

Beach Villa:
I stayed in a beach villa so i will comment on this. Checking in was fast and a quick briefing on location, meal timing etc was given as well. Villa was big and spacious with a decent sized standing toilet bath. A balcony facing the sea with loungers was available and also two sun deck chairs out on the ground. Access to the beach was only few steps away. only thing missing were dental kits, maybe some nice lotions and extra towels. I felt this should be added to complement the overall given the above average price for a stay.

Food:
Great choices of food buffet style available with mostly menu offering on local dishes. A full bar and wine cellar is also available.

Dive center:
3 dives a day is the standard and night dive is also available should you like to indulge. All dive sites are easily accessible and are great for macro fanatics. For the lazy, gears are all brought on dive boat and rigged up, so all you need is to conserve your energy for your dive. There is also a self jetty dive available which i highly recommend not to miss as well. The only gripe is that they have a new policy in place, in which you need to rig up equip your self. Only tanks and belts are brought to jetty. No big deal, but i think the dive center should relook at this. What will it cost the center by rigging and bringing the full gear to the jetty? Afterall, they state that self dives are available only if you book at least 5 dives with them, so in this case, the dive center should also see self dive divers as their customers. And for me, i did book 7 dives each for me and my wife. However, on overall, the crew and dive masters make your day.

Activities:
They have a nightly turtle patrol around the island at 9pm. I did not manage to see any turtle laying eggs as it wasn't the mating season, but I am sure it will be a fantastic experience during the right season.

Overall, a very relaxing island getaway as it doesn't overun with crowd as in some big resorts. Ample time to laze between activities and meals with some quality nap time to recharge as well.

When I arrive at the island, the view totally blew me away. The water is crystal clear and you can see beautiful corals from the jetty itself. I got really excited as to what else this island had to offer after seeing this gorgeous view.

Upon reaching the reception area which is also their restaurant area, we were warmly greeted by the staff there. They offered us a cooling welcome drink and sat us down at their reception area while they check us in. The staff here are all very friendly. I felt like a VIP here with all the attention i get from the staff. Their service is definitely 5-star quality.

We stayed in the beach villa. The villa looks rustic but it is very clean. No musky smell at all. The beds are comfortable and the villa is well equipped with fans and air conditioner. For food wise, the food here is fantastic. They are mainly home-cooked food but they are deeeeliicious! Food and drink are generally available all day at the restaurant.

Snorkeling and diving are the main activity here. However, I think this place is a nice place for non divers too. The water here is so clear that you can look at the sea creatures without having to be in the water. I personally spotted a green turtle from the jetty. This place is also very relaxing and the place is so beautiful that you can just sit by the beach and drink some wine while you watch the sun set.

Another thing which you must do when you come to the island is to take a walk around the island. The place is really beautiful and it is fantastic for taking photos. My pictures will tell you so. The resort also organise turtle tour at night to see turtle lay eggs. It is a pity that we didn't get to see any as it is the low season. I'll definitely go back one of these days during June, July or August. These are the high season according to the staff there.

All in all I have a enjoyable and relaxing trip with my friend. It is indeed a paradise there. I shall let my pictures speak the thousand words.

We stayed for 5 days in a water villa. The villa was rustic but fabulous. The water is crystal clear and blue. Snorkeling right off the ladder of the villa, we encountered lion fish, turtles, and a fair amount of other fish. Went on 4 dives with the resort. The dive staff was great and the diving was simply the best I had ever encountered.
