“Absolute Paradise!”
Reviewed May 9, 2012

We searched the internet extensively and emailed Pom Pom several times before we finally booked a 7 day and 6 night package. This seems to be a bit longer than most people stay but we were at the end of a great Borneo experience and wanted to treat ourselves. We were very lucky to get Beach Villa 16, which is right at the end of Pom Pom`s private beach. The villas are well spread out, all Balinise style, dark wood and white linen. The rooms which are built above the ground on stilts in the local style are cavernous, 6m x 8m, with a large shower room and a 3 m wide balcony. You get a tree shaded sandy area out front and in our case an almost private beach. I don’t know if we were just lucky (I guess a lot of people were off the island during the day diving) but we hardly saw anybody during the hot sunny days. The staff are friendly although a bit reserved at first. But after we got involved in a round the island beach clean-up with the staff they warmed to us and referred to us by name after that. The food is really good with lots of variety. It’s a shame that it's buffet style as they do themselves a miss-service. The quality of the place deserves a menu and waiter service. Alcohol is extra about £2.50 for a can of beer. But the location is paradise and I don’t normally say that. There is a natural white sandy beach around the perimeter of the island which you can walk in a leisurely 40 minutes. They do have an issue with debris collection on the beach from the adjacent islands and the mainland, but they are working hard to manage this with regular clean ups and then recycling the plastic which they collect. But the area in front of and directly adjacent to the resort is cleaned daily. We snorkelled around the end of the jetty and saw terrapins, bat fish, clown fish (think Nemo) and lots more I could not name. We witnessed a turtle laying its eggs on the beach one night which were then moved to the resort hatchery for safety. The place is expansive but it really is pretty close to paradise. A great experience and in our view worth the money

Room Tip: Beach Villa 16 has a great location

You can't help but relax from the moment you arrive, walking down the long jetty towards Pom Pom Island. We stayed in both the Water Villa and the Beach Villa, both were beautifully constructed and perfectly located. Days were spent floating in crystal clear water, swimming with turtles, chasing off iridescent fish - it's all too good. The turtle conservation program is an added plus, support it if you can. Staff were friendly and efficient, food was pretty good and the best thing was - no one bothered us. No one. Except maybe the occasional trigger fish. Watch out, they chase. Great for non-divers as well as divers. Perfect for the brain and body, didnt really want to leave.

Pom Pom island was perfection for us. We are not keen on diving but decided to come here still.

The resort is so peaceful and private, the beach villas are large with a great view and facilities for relaxing.

The buffet meals were fantastic and the staff were so friendly. We decided to go on a snorkel trip with the dive centre, it was only 100 rm per pax for half day. Me and my partner had a guide that we followed and saw some beautiful coral and fish.

Back on the island we were surrounded by turtles which was truely amazing.

3 of the best days of my life on this island and would love to go back for a honeymoon vacation

Spent 7 nights at Pom Pom in October 2011 and I should say this experience was one of the most impressive in my life - small island, almost no mobile connection, turquoise sea, white sand and our very own little beach in front of our villa! Throw in the amazing experience of swimming with giant sea turtles, nice food, friendly staff and beautiful weather and here's my idea of paradise on Earth! I would recommend this hotel for snorkelers and nature lovers, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Now some tips for those who are about to travel to this beautiful island:
1) Mosquito repellent - take three bottles!
2) Take your favourite shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste and anything specific you might need - there is only a tiny shop at the reception and the choice isn't rich!
3) You can rent an underwater digital camera at the diving centre - a bit pricey but you'll have amazing photos!
4) You will be able to actually swim in the sea before 11 am and after 3 pm due to low tide. There's literally no water for miles and your beautiful sea view turns into a scary picture of bare black corals. You can spend this time cycling around the island or relaxing in a great SPA centre - one of the best massages I've ever had!!!
5) Didn't think much of the turtle watch trip - we didn't see any turtles and the sea was pretty rough - quite a scary experience! We had to crawl under tree brunches water reaching our waists, sand getting everywhere all in complete darkness and it lasted for 40 minutes!
6) Very nice diving trip to Mataking island - the views and corals were fantastic!
7) Never ever swim without your mask on - there are all types of dangerous types of fish very close to the shore (lion fish, sting rays, sea urchins etc.)
8) Bring your wetsuit as there is a lot of jelly bugs which gave us some nasty stings

I think this island is very special and I will definitely come back again!

I love sea and beach, so this time choose Pom Pom as holiday destination, the staff are very friendly, and all the bungalow are very beautiful, I supposed to book the water villa, but it is too late for booking, there are only 5 villa on water, and full booked, what's a pity! But we also love beach villa and garden villa, room is very big, and you could enjoy yourself freely. Everyday, we will snork closed by the island to find the turtles, they are so cute , and also you could see so many different fishes underwater. Good place!

Room Tip: If you want to book the water villa, remenber to arrange booking at least 2 months earlier.

We stayed in Pom Pom for 5 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. The resort is quiet and the location beautiful. We did some dives, plus a course and the dive set up was great-diving at it's laziest. If you're expecting the schooling fish of Sipadabn, you'll be disappointed, but if you want to see shrimps, crabs, loads of turtles, nudis and dive with enthused guides, this is the place for you. A night dive is a must too. Vegetarians can be catered for-just let the check in guys know. The pastry chef did some amazing deserts and bread. We were very happy guests here

If you and your family have ever wanted to have the amazing experience of swimming with giant sea turtles then you should consider Pom Pom island. The resort is not luxurious but it is comfortable and exclusive. The snorkeling at your doorstep is breathtaking and daily excursions are available to neighboring islands which offer further variety. The food is good and plentiful and the staff extremely friendly. The diving instructors are also very good with children. Our family (two adults and two children ages 10 and 8) were on the island for four nights and we had a wonderful time. Everyday we snorkeled for hours in close proximity with the giant sea turtles that call Pom Pom their home. It is an experience that our children will remember for the rest of our lives ... come to think of it so will we!
