The stay was great! We stayed for 6 days and took a advance open water cert. We had a great dive instructor, all the dive masters and the rest of the staff was super nice and service minded. The diving was awesome both at sipadan, but also the other dive sites. The food was realy good and it was a realy nice atmosphere with every body just hanging out around the bar.

We had a good stay but it was far from excellent. Friendly staff, good equipment, enough food and drinks. To sleep on the Rig is just a nice experience. I'ts not a ***** resort and everything is a bit old and rusty but it's part of the experience. There were also some downsides during our stay on the Rig and the booking with Seaventures.

1.) We booked a dormbed but they pretend the dorm was not available so we had to pay 400AUD extra (for a 4D3N stay) to get a doubleroom. Once on the Rig we found out there was only one girl in the dorm and she had the whole dorm for herself. So we felt really ripped off! But because we agreed to the more expensive room instead there was nothing to do about it. When we asked for a explaination they just laughed a bit and didn't really know what to say. We had to go to the office on the mainland Semporna and when we arrived there on our way back they said we had to be at the headquarters in Kota Kinabalu. They would let us know but we never heard back from them.

2. The first day we managed to arrive early in the morning on the Rig, about 10.00 a.m.. Because other guest arrived later and there was no other divemaster available we had to wait till 15.30 p.m. for our first dive and instructions. Afterwards we could dive only 1 more time that day and didn't had time to dive ourselves, which was really sad.

3. The dive master we first had (Titta) is a really good one and she know's what she's doing. So no complaints about her. But we've had 3 different dive masters in 4 days. 1 divemaster we had didn't deserve that name. He was only busy with himself and making bubbles under water. The other dives we added to a group of 10 Malaysian people. They didn't split up the group because this group wanted to dive together. So we just had to adapt with their wishes and it felt a bit stupid to watch fish with 15 other people.

4.) We've been diving on Sipadan 1 day like promised. All dives were in the morning and we had to leave really early. After 3 dives we were back on the rig, before lunch 12.00. Because we still had a permit we could go back in the afternoon but we had to pay a huge amount of money... for the fuel!!!? We would have agreed to have lunch on Sipadan but they said it was impossible. This is a way for them to earn extra money while we would love to eat just a brought sandwich or not eat at all but just had some extra dives instead.

Because of heavy rainfall the visibility wasn't that good. Of course that's nature and we know it's just bad luck. But everything together it's just not what we expected. If we had the best visibility and saw many beautiful things probably we would have given a better rating. But the reef of many dive spots unfortunately were artificial or not really worth traveling the world for. All together we think we pay way to much money for what we got. If we're going back we wouldn't go with Seaventures again

Although I'm single traveller, I don't feel alone because the rig crew and dive team treat me like I'm one of them. That makes me not feeling boring considering it's a rig. Great hospitality, friendly staff and great diving in Sipadan.

Stayed 6D5N with a large group of diving friends. In terms of security, imo this is the safest you get in Sabah.. Seaventures is a high up platform where there are two access points-one by the lift, the other platform is fully barricaded with barb wires so no access when the door is closed. Every evening there will be fully armored police personnel stationed on the rig whole night, and frequent police patrol during day time. Comparatively, other resorts on mabul kapalai will be easier soft spot than seaventures.Even so,i don't think this area as a whole is an attractive spot for kidnappers due to the remote location (far to escape) and also many police checkpoints.

Been to other resort to peek. Seaventures is more worthwhile comparatively, and you are also spared from the ongoing dengue epidemic on mabul island. Room is basic, pillow is hard, aircond is good, water for bath is slightly salty. Food wise is ok. What we did was to purchase our fish/marine catch from the mabul village market (basically the fisherman) and get the restaurant cook to prepare sashimi or food to add on to our usual buffet. Awesome!

Diving is awesome (we saw whale shark on our 3rd dives), and enjoyed chilling out on the oil rig deck. Suggest to bring socks if you intend to rent diving gears, and bring a jacket along to cover after boat dive as the wind is chilling when fully soaked. Personally loved the dive sites of baraccuda point at sipadan island for the amazing marine (and whale shark encounter), lobster wall dive site at mabul for the drift wall dive. Orangutan crab, bubble coral shrimps, madarin fish, nudibranches, turtles, giant moray eel, walls and schools of jack fish... and many more.

Most importantly, the staffs are great. Helmi and taupiq are perfect DM that guided us for all our dives and always have something exciting or new to share during the dives. Najib is ever friendly and helpful on land. And also Marco that were fun to chat with....
Just remember that if your intent is not a prince/princess luxury trip, but a true dive trip, seaventures is the place to go.

Lastly, remember to do the platform leap too. It is awesome.

We stayed on the rig for 4 days /3 nights which gave us one full day of diving in sipadan.
The rig is a cool setup with a main area and the rooms are built on top out of cargo containers. All rooms have air conditioning. The basic rooms are small, but realistically you do not need a lot of space as you will pass out most nights, tired from all the unlimited diving.
We splurged and got one of the Vip rooms, larger space and bigger bed. Worth it!
The food on the rig is good, breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner all served on the main deck. Wifi is good and covers all areas except the sun deck.
The staff are great, everyone is friendly and helpful. All instructors are awesome and I can highly recommend diving with Brigit, Suky, Marco or Marc.
The diving was the best we have ever done: coral gardens full of table corals, fan corals and so many more with fish everywhere. Jack fish, barracudas, white tip reef sharks and countless turtles. Colourful and beautiful, amazing diving!
The rig is basic, but it has what you need and keep in mind you are there to dive. Overall a fantastic experience and we will be looking at going back.

This place was a lot of fun. Staff were friendly, food was great (particularly lunch, tea and dinner)
Equipment was well maintained. I enjoyed my dives with an awesome dive master Taufiq, aka eagle eyes! He spotted a beautiful mandarin fish and a ton of other sea life. Staying the minimum time to get a guaranteed day of diving at Sipadan was worth it. I enjoyed the sun deck too for the sunsets and star gazing. I have a lot of engineering friends that work on rigs and thought it was awesome to experience living on a rig for 5 days :) all you can dive under the rig too!
I also filled my log book and got a Seaventures Rig log book. It's in color! And the pictures reminds me of all the good times and great friends I made on the rig!
A shuttle was arranged on arrival at the main office in Semporna. Here they confirmed accommodation and the shuttle going back as well as a waiver form. I stayed for 5D/4N in a dorm. When I got back to Semporna after the 5 days I stayed a night in the town for the 24 hr wait before flying. I was glad the shuttle was arranged before because when I was settling the bill in the office on the rig the personnel there said as long as a leave the rig and stay somewhere else they are no longer responsible. The shuttle to the airport is free if there is more than one person. They charge for single person trips. Its about an hour drive from Semporna dock to the airport.

There's obviously a reason Sipidan Island is considered a world class dive location and it lives up to its reputation. Regarding the rig, the staff is absolutely unbelievable and the food is surprisingly great, but the rig could use improvement.
