During April we went back to Bamboo Hill Chalets after 4 years... It was like coming home!
This facility is just the best! Our chalet, no2 was even better than the last time when we were in chalet no1. The view over the bay is spectacular. The atmosphere peaceful. (No aircon but we sleep with the doors open. ) The food at their restaurant, ABC unforgettable. We enjoyed the fish, freshly caught and prepared on the barbeque! Excellent! (The barbeque chicken was my second choice) We ate there every night and we are already missing it.
We made so many friends there. We found the management very helpful, friendly and fluent in English. There is so much to do or just to sit around and do nothing. We enjoy the snorkeling, abundance of sea-life, walks to Selang, Monkey Bay and Juara (A long one but worth it) Many take diving lessons and enjoy deep sea diving. The facilities at Tekek is more than suficient. There is a very well stocked shop. The bakery serves freshly baked treats.
We flew in this time from KL with Berjaya Air. Their service is excellent! On the way back our plane gave a bit of trouble and we were delayed. They went out of their way to make all effort to make it as comfortable as possible for us at the Berjaya resort. The rest of the trip great. (Last time we came by bus from JB to Mersing and then by ferry from Mersing to Tioman. Both flying and the ferry worked very well for us but flying saves a lot of time.)
Lastly a tip... Book at Bamboo Hill Chalets because they are normally fully booked.
We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in no 1 and no 2... No 1 is closer to the sea and I think no 2 has better view. The steps...

A perfect couple get away, owner very friendly and customer service is top notch- no aircon but sleeping with doors open over looking the sea is beautiful in the morning and at sun set, a quiet holiday at the edge of the jungle- bring a good book and some walking shoes, very simple but perfect for some time to chill out. We were traveling Asia and it was a really nice break from the usual busy hostel set up

It was a year or two now since my family visited Malaysia for our second time. We love Malaysia and are even planning our third trip. We are two adults and two girls in their late teens. We stayed at Redang and Tioman islands and Bamboo Hill was where we spent ten nights at on the north part of Air Batang beach on the simply lovely Tioman island. It is a stunning setting which isperched between giant rocks and bamboo. Hence the name. We had hut no.1 which was directly on the beach. The beaches on Air Batang to be fair are not the best in Malaysia, in fact there not even the best on Tioman but its a nice relaxed village with plenty do do. The beach is quite decent directly in front of Bamboo Hill but a little further its quite rocky. There are five huts to rent and the sixth hut is the reception with a library and Internet. Lin the lady who worked at reception was very friendly to us all and she arranged for us to go out on snorkelling trips etc.
Be prepared to see lots of wildlife too as the huts backs onto deep jungle and the sounds of the jungle whilst laying in bed takes a night or two to get used to. After that it's great. Monkeys jump on the roof early in the morning and there's even geckos on the roof inside the hut . There are also six feet monitor lizards walking around Tioman too but thankfully they are scared of humans and run away from us rather than to us.
There are several different restaurants and a couple of bars on Air Batang beach but things are very basic here. All serving western or Malaysian food at unbelievably cheap prices. We ate mostly the local food which was nice and spicy.
ABC restaurant is about thirty yards away and serves the best banana pancakes ever for breakfast. The spicy sambal dishes are also our favourites.
I would highly recommend Bamboo hill if you come to Tioman. Each hut has its own balcony and the views are amazing.

Bamboo Hill Chalets have a great views and that is the only positive about the place. The rooms are very basic and gets very humid, big gaps in the floors invites jungle-crawlie and gets pretty scary at night.. the people running the place are friendly but agian the basic courteous is missing.. They do claim to accept credit card but we were cheated as they double charged me by saying the machine is not working after sweeping it and took RM 70 for a night.
I did a multiple followup on mails but never got my money back .. bacause of this we only spent a night at the cottage..

Room Tip: 1,2 and 3 are the better Chalets.

Bamboo Hill Chalets need some serious renovations and bush trimming! Chalets 5&6 command great views; however, these views are becoming more and more obstructed by jungle growth. It was also nearly impossible to enjoy sitting on the balcony as we were pestered by insects and even a snake that had taken up residence in the rafters. Yes, the start of the monsoon season does attract more critters, but the wild jungle growth also contributes to the increase in bugs and reptiles.

The wooden floors and ceiling are being eaten by termites as evidenced by the small piles of sawdust seen on the floor each morning. And the door locks are problematic.

I hope that the younger generation now in charge of the chalets can make the necessary improvements (to go along with the new higher prices) as I'd really like to visit again next year!

We ended up staying here 6 nights in one of the chalets that are 'shared' with respect to the building. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom. Therefore you are a bit dependent on your neighbor's habits as the chalets are made of wood and therefore the noise insulation is limited. If they are available there are also 'private' chalets where this potential issue does not exist. These cost a bit more.

The location is awesome. You have a great view of the beach. The chalets are at the end of the beach and not along the main pathway which other accommodations within ABC may have.

The room is sufficiently equipped and the fan does its job. However if you cannot stand the heat during the day the evenings may be a bit hot for you as well... nothing wrong with this accommodation as you are on a tropical island.

ABC has various, relatively inexpensive, place to have a bite or a drink. If you do not want to go out for a drink you can get your drinks from the duty free shops in Tekek (1 hour stroll) or Salang (requires a water taxi).

Room Tip: Take one of the 'private' chalets for additional privacy if you can afford 30 to 50 RM per n...
