“Excellent Secluded Getaway”
Reviewed October 18, 2008

We stayed 3 nights in a deluxe room, with a good sea view. The rooms were clean and spacious and had a lovely balcony to sit out in the evening.

The resort is managed by an English guy and the place is extremely well ran; the pick up boat was ready waiting for us when we arrived at the ferry terminal, which promptly took us to the resort, which can only be reached by boat.

The resort is self contained with a small beach and patio area with sun loungers (beach towels provided). There is a small diving school which will organise diving and snorkelling trips. It is well worth walking to the nearby village and onto the waterfall, they will arrange a boat to pick you up if you don't fancy the walk back.

Overall the resort is an excellent secluded getaway for a few days of relaxation. The only negative comment would the food served is fairly average but adequate. The barbeque evening was the exception, which was very good. They also serve a free tea and cake/biscuit in the afternoon.

Tioman island is a paradise island, with clear blue water and white sandy beaches, and this resort is also pure perfection for those wanting peace and seclusion. We went there as a couple, looking for a romantic three days on a beautiful island, and we gotr exactly what we were after.

The resort is small but very quaint and charming, and due to its size you are given first class treatment from the staff who take their time in getting to know you and take caere of you. If you are after a large resort with plenty of activities and kids programmes, this will not be the place for you. But if you want sheer serenity and a beautiful backdrop, this is the place! (we actually also went to stay at the big berjaya resort and it is just no where near as charming!!!!)

The staff, especially Alex and Vicky were terrific; they even went out of their way to buy a cake and some champagne for my girlfriend's bday, and to arrange a candlelight beach dinner just for us, at no addiational cost. and they always had a smile on their face; in fact they were the only staff that after 5 weeks of travelling through Asia i could trully say we missed after leaving.

There is also a wonderful jungle trek leading from the hotel for 2 hours to a waterfall, as well as some very good snorkelling and diving possibilities. The happy hour 2 for 1 meant cocktials could be enjoyed on the pier underneath the beautiful sunset.

The food was generally good, although some may frown at the set time for meals; personally i thought it was a good way to meet others staying at the resort, amd since the place is small you can get to know the people very easily.

All in all, Tioman island is a gem and the one place in all of Malaysia i would easily go back to. And if i went, i would have no hesitation in staying at Minang Cove yet again!

We decided to stay at the resort because of the great reviews it had recieved. However it turned out to be a HUGE dissapointment. Let me tell you why so you wouldn't make the same mistake:

1) They messed up on my bill and over charged my credit card

2) Transport "TO" and "FROM" the hotel from the airport or the ferry deck is another 95BH which is around USD$30 "PER PERSON"

3) The hotel rooms are 2 star at best

4) The restroom in our deluxe ocean front suite SMELLED REALLY BAD and we told management and NOTHING was done

5) All additional activities cost money. A short 30 minute scuba diving for beginners is 290BH which is around USD$80

6) The resort is in the south of the island and the best scuba diving and snorkeling is in the NORTH

7) The beach is rocky and corally, can't really swim in

8) You are completely reliant on the resort once you are there and they charge all activities and transport
