We just returned from a lovely three day stay at Minang Cove. We stayed in a bungalow on the hillside which were basic but clean and comfortable. The setting was so beautiful we spent very little time in our room. Our room had a double bed and a bunk bed for our children aged 6 and seven. All bugalows have an ocean view. The hotel is situated at the base of two large mountain peaks which we never tired of looking at at...simply stunning! The beach is quite small but with soft white sand and clear water. A pier extending from the hotel provided a perfect place for watching the beautiful sun set each evening and our whole family had a great fun jumping off the end of the pier which was deep enough even at low tide. There is coral in front of the hotel but found the snorkelling a little disappointing as there were not as many fish as we expected from reading other reviews. We found the best area to snorkel was underneath the end of the pier. Nicholas (the manager) was extremely welcoming and friendly as were all the other staff during our stay. They did their very best to provide vegan/vegetarian meals for our family and though there was not a lot of variety with the meals they were tasty and we enjoyed them. All in all an excellent getaway for a our family and we would not hesitate to recommend Minang Cove.

Room Tip: Choose rooms closer to the ocean.

This is a lovely, small, family friendly retreat. We stayed with our 7and 8 year old boys. The accommodation is basic but comfortable and clean. We stayed in a cabin on the hillside that was a duplex (adjoining wall to the neighbour). We had a double bed and a bunk bed for the two kids. It was clean and comfortable and roomy enough to allow for Lego and drawing. The air conditioning was excellent and kept us cool. The mini bar kept some beverages cold and the verandah was a lovely place to read and relax in the early evening with a view.

The overall resort location is awesome at the southern end of the island. The mountain backdrop is beautiful. Would love to come back and climb the "Dragon's teeth".

The small beach cove is lovely and safe swimming for kids of all ages. Our boys loved jumping off the jetty into the water and did this continuously! The snorkelling off the beach was great for fish life and had some reasonable coral. The fish life around the jetty was incredible with numerous resident schools of fish. We swam with walls of fish and had fish coming up to us to check us out. Saw a turtle swim past near the jetty. Saw cuttlefish and star fish and heaps of "Nemo" clown fish and anemones.

The resort is fairly quiet allowing for lots of time to relax and read books, swim and have quality family time. There are boat excursions to do from the resort but we did not do any due to weather and boat booking restrictions. We did not dive but other resort guests told us the diving was great.

We did walk to the nearby fishing village and the waterfall. It was a lovely walk and the fishing village is not touristy at all, feeling very authentic but very clean and pretty. The waterfall was worth the walk. We had lunch at the village on the way back.

The set menus for dinner were good. We found the meals good every night, with some nights exceptional. Lunch was good and the sizes very generous. I would advise expecting to purchase lunch each day. Afternoon tea was an absolute delight and a great time to social with the other guests. We enjoyed a cocktail during happy hour most sunsets. But the bar and restaurant are very quiet.

Guests are asked to attend to dinner promptly and as soon as everyone has eaten, invited to attend the evening fish feeding off the jetty. The kids loved this nightly ritual of watching small reef sharks circling and attacking the food scraps. Dinner is 7.30 start and subsequent fish feeding does make for late nights for young kids.

The housekeeping staff were exceptional and tidied and cleaned our room each day to a very high standard. The restaurant staff had limited English but were extremely friendly. Nicholas the manager is wonderful.

It is not a 5 star experience and if that is what you are looking for this is not the resort for you. Also note there was no wifi and limited board games or activities. There is one kayak to hire. And there is a great big ugly communication tower to the right of the resort which you have to keep out of your photos!!!

The whole experience of being picked up and whizzed to your island retreat by speed boat was awesome. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Minang Cove. I wasn't sure about spending 6 nights in the one place with not a lot to do, but absolutely loved it.

We flew from Singapore with Berjaya Air. The plane appears to be in need of maintenance or at least a good clean. There is a very tight turn to land the plane at Tioman airport. We were not charged excess baggage to the island but were charged on leaving Tioman and in very dubious circumstances with a ridiculous rate offered for Singapore dollars.

Make sure you have Ringgit on arrival for the marine park fee.

We spent a lovely relaxing 4 nights at Minang Cove. The setting really is lovely. Our room looked out over the small jetty and onto the small private beach. The backdrop was quite stupendous with the twin peaks rising behind. The snorkelling was excellent off the beach. I did 5 dives whilst there and enjoyed all of them. So much to see underwater. The food was great and Nicholas was really an excellent host. We can't wait to go back

Just been on my second sojourn to Minang Cove and was not disappointed. The first trip was around three years ago. The venue is very cool and chilled and is in a beautiful setting with a very private beach set to a backdrop of spectacular mountains and jungle forest. The place has been well maintained and everything was spotless. Heartening to see that the house corals have improved and grown over three years. Nicholas the GM was very friendly and helpful. Seamus the dive instructor was great - he was patient in assisting my wife who takes a while to equalize when descending. The food was OK - however there is room for improvement. The first evening's dinner was definitely below par - a very greasy curry. The meal on barbeque night was good however the prawns were less than fresh. The Malay theme dinner night was good. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. One negative was the fishing excursion which consisted of catching undersize reef fish which the skipper insisted on keeping - my expectation was we would be trolling for pelagic game fish and definitely would release anything undersize - disappointing in a conservation minded resort. You can get a lot cheaper but I would say Minang Cove offers great value for money. All in all it gets a strong recommendation if you want quiet, peacefulness, a boutique vibe, no crowds, and some personal attention.

Minang Cove Resort is a good place to come if you are looking for a relaxing, low key place to stay. We enjoyed being able to come here, relax and unwind for a number of days. The location is beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed. The staff of the resort were also very hospitable and friendly.

In relation to the meals, we enjoyed most of the meals, but occasionally didnt like some of them. We also believe that the resort should, in future, cater better for vegetarians as the meal offerings for vegetarians was very limited and a lot of the vegetarian meals were repeated night after night.

In relations to the rooms, we were happy with the room we stayed in, but, the hotel needs to improve on the quality of the bed frames it has in the rooms as it seems to have issues with the bed frames.

Also, as other people have noted in previous reviews, the prices of the boat transfers are very expensive (200 ringgit per person return) and we believe this is way too much to pay.

Finally, the thai masseuse is excellent and we highly recommend having a massage with her. She is very gifted.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay.
