Paya Beach Spa really need to sort themselves out before next years season. They have a lot of work to do!
I stayed at Paya at the beginning of November which was the start of our 2 weeks away. I am sad to say that the 4 days here were just not up to the standard of what £479 (plus drinks) should be in Malaysia.
We stayed in the Deluxe Suite as it was the start of our holiday and wanted the best. It consists of two nice rooms, both with a balcony over looking the sea. What must be pointed out is that it is very tidal here and so all the lovely pictures you see are at high tide. Most of the time we were there it was low tide - so unable to swim - see pics.
The outdoor shower and jacuzzi are lovely however even if warm water is rare. The room smells very damp however and the sheets had holes in. The room was only cleaned every other day for some reason.
At the back of the suite they are in the process of building more accommodation (see pic) so at 8am every morning the drilling and banging begins. It really is loud. I doubt it will be finished till mid 2014
If for some reason you do want to stay here I suggest you go for a Deluxe Chalet - however read my friends review (Richard G) below - because they are in need of decorating.
The buffet meals are okay - but only just okay. The Grill in the evening was the best part about the food. Some of the staff were very nice, but as someone else has mentioned the bar manager just isn't very pleasant. I played pool with my friends one night and we had to pay by the half hour - at a resort! The manager timed every session to the second, which I thought a bit much seeing as our group of 5 people were spending over £1500 in 4 days.
The positive thing about Paya is without doubt the quality and cost of the diving. £40 for 2 fantastic dives is great.
To sum up - avoid - although I'm sure by mid 2014 they will sort themselves out - they need to.
