Ferry Trip to Tioman - Went to Tioman with a small group of friends. We took a package deal for Paya Beach Resort which included the boat from Mersing to Tioman. The boat was hot, smelly and uncomfortable and close to sinking. As we had booked a package deal that the resort had put together they were obviously trying to save a few lousy ringitt by putting us on the worst ferry possible. There were many other ferries that were much nicer which we would of been happy to pay extra for.
Paya Beach Resort - As we checked in we should of realised the lights flickering at the hotel lobby was not a good sign. After the first night we spent there we realised that the food was terrible (most things on menu not available) and the buffet woeful. Cold and extremely limited, and never replenished. The bbq buffet on the second night we spent there was shocking and we were 'rationed' to 2 cold bbq prawns per person....Then things got even worse. There was no water in hotel rooms and the power went out which meant no air-conditioning in the rooms nor lighting. This power outage lasted all night and was still not back on when we left the following day. There was no explanation nor any apologies from the management. It seems it is the norm at this place....
Ferry trip Back to Tioman - Told by management that the ferry departs at 11am, then told it was late and would leave at 11:30am. Once boarding ferry we were taken in the opposite direction and stopped off at numerous resorts for dropp off/Pick ups and ended up back at the Paya Beach Resort pier 1 hr 20 min later!!!! Why were we not told to board the ferry at 12:30pm????!!!! Therefore, instead of the ferry ride taking 2.5hrs it would of only taken us 1hr 10 mins...
All in all, Tioman seems to be a great place with excellent dive spots etc, however, Paya Beach Resort is an embarrassment and i would strongly recommend that no-one step foot inside this pathetic establishment.
