I had selected Berjaya Tioman for my honeymoon destination after doing a lot of research on various resorts in south east asia. The reason we took Tioman was because it was not over crowded like other destinations such as Langkawi, Phuket, Goa, etc. The entire trip was eventful and a lot of fun.
To begin with we had taken Berjaya Air from KL to Tioman. The flight was very bumpy; however it was a lot better than taking a ferry to Tioman. The airport was very nice and gave a personal touch and we had the hotel transport ready to drop us to Berjaya hotel immediately. Within an hour of landing we were at the hotel. We had booked a deluxe sea facing chalet. The first room we got was a little away from the sea and we immediately called the reception who send room service to shift us to a better room right on the beach. The room was big and comfortable with all the amenities in place. The hotel had a few good restaurents, though we either ate at Sri Nelayan or at the bar. The buffet for breakfast and dinner were both very good with an amazing variety of cuisine.
One must go to Tioman with an expectation to just lay back and take in nature. There is nothing much to do. We did snorkelling one day, went driving to Juara to see the Turtle santuary and some waterfall another day, trekking to Moneky bay one day. Most of the time we just sat in the beach and enjoyed the sunset and the water. Walking around Tioman is a lot of fun. Its a very small island and Berjaya is located in the main village. Hence there are a bunch of local restaurents and duty free outlets that one can visit. We experimented a lot with the local food and i must say it was very nice.
The only downside to Berjaya Tioman was that some of the facilities are a little old. For example the ac was leaking one day. But these are really small things compared to the beauty of the place. The hotel staff are also very cordial and keep smiling. So all in all a nice place.
I have already recommended Tioman to other friiends and couples and i am sure they would enjoy it as much as us.

We had a great 5 day stay here late March. The location is stunningly beautiful, the resort well run and comfortable, the food above average and the island is enchanting. Lots of people from Europe but very few from down under. My advice to prospective travellers would be to upgrade your accommodation from the basic. We looked at a basic room and they are very small. The closer you can get to the beach, the happier you will be.

We hadn't booked Berjaya online. When we reached Mersing bus stop , the ferry agent near the bus stop booked the resort for us . It was a lot cheaper than online rates so we didn't say no.
Berjaya is very huge. Has amazing beach and amenities. If you get the chalets close to beach and lobby, then there are no negatives to this resort.
One must take the snorkling trip that berjaya offers for 40 RM a person. They would take you to deep in spead boat (Ringis island) and leave you there to have all the fun for an hour. its very cheap compared to other places. I don't know swimming and yet i enjoyed it a lot.
You can not go around tioman once you are here but i guess every part of Tioman is like that.
You can get some beach clothes from Berjaya store at reasonable prices.

Ideal stay would be for 2 days , or 3 if you are a fan of trekking and jungle walk etc. I guess after that it would become monotonous. You can get some food outside the resort but not too many restaurants around.
I would like to visit Berjaya again for its beach.

Resort was ok. Not fantastic but comfortable enough for a relaxing getaway. One thing we didnt like was that we had to walk alot within the resort as the grounds are sprawling and the lobby was so far away from our room. After 7pm there is really nothing much to do except to watch TV or sit by the seaside. Food was ok . We decided to eat at the malay stall outside the hotel instead as the prices there are much more reasonable and variety was great.
Snorkelling trip to coral island/ mayang rocks/ monkey bay was what we enjoyed the most. The resort also provided us with a 30 min free snorkelling trip to Renggis island. All very lovely places with abundant marine life :) Waters were absolutely crystal clear and many different varieties of corals.
Other activities we tried were cycling around the resort as well as spa massage. The bicycles were in a run down state. they kept squeaking. Spa massage was good, a tad pricey but i recommend it after a whole tiring day of snorkelling.
One major problem is getting to and back from Tioman island. The waters are choppy and the boat ride an absolute hell. We bought tickets from a company called Bluewaters Ferry. They were 1.5 hrs late and on top of that the boat broke down twice during the journey back. each time the boat broke down , all lights/ aircon went off and the ferry was just bobbling in the rough seas. we were suppose to depart at 1pm. but the boat only left at 3.45pm. by the time we reached our jetty it was nearly 5.30pm.
Never buy tickets from bluewater ferry company. Apart from that , out trip to Tioman was a good respite from the city . There is really something magical about that island.

First avoid going during start of school holidays. I did much to my chagrin on a sat morning being the 1st day of school holiday. There was a large crowd and 2 ferries, one that took off on time and the other did not appear until you are shipped out in a 20 seater jet boat to a larger ferry. There was no prior warning nor announcement and therefore much too be desired when you are reliant on one main ferry operator, 15 mins later we reached our ferry and boarded (being on the 1st batch) and had to wait for 6 boatload to go back to ferry back and load up the other passengers (about 200 i think). All this took a couple of hours. By the time we reached Tioman it was 4 hours later when the trip should have been 1.5 hours.

Back to the hotel... as many of the readers have reviewed it is 3 star by european & international Asian standard based on service level, decor, fittings, amenties. No misdeamour but unless you think you have paid a 4 star price, less cause for compliant.

I had a superior room which is far better than a standard room which is located towards the jungle end where the superior and deluxe is next or the beach. The bedding is clean and the floor wooden as opposed to the dank carpet or hard concrete on many of the island's other lower end 'resorts'. The beach is beautiful with golden sand but not sure about crystal clear waters which are found in other beaches. However that is compensated by a boat trip to the nearby Tulai Island you can see corals and fishes in a kalidoscope.

Each house contains 4 units in the superior class but for standard it is a single storey bungalow. Visited one of that and it look pretty spartan and less estatic.

Food - sri nelayan - sufficient but not sumptuous, Bar lounge with nightly singer - nothing to shout about but it is better than watching telly in your room or playing mahjoong in the games rooms (there is pool/snooker/some arcades games).

The golf course should keep golfer happy and if you are a biker you can ride to the end of the paved road and look out for monitor lizards or sand pipers or macaques. The bike ride should be okay to keep your kids occupied.

Overall, this resort is not backpackers or budget conscious as a chinese single dish could costs up to RM40. However outside the gate you can spend RM50 for a 3 course chinese meal but i would suggest help patronise the restaurant otherwise there will not be a decent restaurant left in the hotel if everyone scrooge and eat beyond the gates of the hotel.

You can canoe, ride a a banana boat, go snorkell or go jungle tracking or golf or indoor games like pool/snooker/table tennis or simply swim inhouse pool or bake yourself in the sun.

Overal no complaints if you don't stinge. Just spend and enjoy yourself.

Stayed in the superior room. Room was clean. There was a problem with the key to the room on the first day. Called reception. They sent a maintenance crew who solved the problem very quickly. Hotel breakfast was average.

My partner and I decided to check ourselves into Berjaya Tioman Resort for a 4 night stay in the month of February. We chose the sea fronting deluxe room to benefit from a better view of the ocean. We flew in by Berjaya Air which was a pleasant flight except for the bumpy ride every now and then. Upon arrival, the resort coach was already waiting outside the airport. Within minutes, we arrived Berjaya Tioman and begun the check in process. Boy, did it take a long time despite a short queue. That aside, we stepped into our room 40 mins later. The room has a pretty good view of the ocean and you can expect the usual amenities provided (Hair dryer, mini fridge, coffee/tea facility, in-room safe) in the room. The plus point is that the room comes with a cozy sofa area, dining area for two and also a LCD TV. The downside would be the disfunctional air conditioning unit which leaks periodically and not very cold. The upside of this is that we lodged a report to the front desk and they immediately sent a very helpful and friendly maintenance (Mohd. Hanafi @ Boy). For the next 5 days, he came every few hours to check the compressor status. Now, that is what I call good service!!

In a nutshell, the resort is aged and it shows in the common areas like the coffee house, swimming pool area etc. The resort houses 3 eateries - Coffee house, Fortune Court (Chinese) & Thai. Shuttle service to the room / lobby or resort entrance is available on request. There is an in-house recreational booth providing snorkelling, diving, jungle trekking services etc. There is also a karaoke facility and a lounge with live band. Food is overall pricey on the island but alcoholic beverages are reasonable since Tioman is a duty free island. All in all, if you're looking for a nice and quiet vacation by the ocean with clean sandy beaches & friendly service and do not mind forking out a bit more than usual, then this is the right place for you. Otherwise, try Langkawi or Pangkor instead.

The reason why I would recommend this resort to others would probably be due to the friendly and helpful staff and an example would be the earlier mentioned Mohd Hanafi. Also a front office staff (Mr. Shahrin) was extremely helpful. I decided to extend our 4 night stay for an extra night at the very last hour and Mr. Shahrin was so ever helpful to make the arrangements for both my flight and accomodation extension way past his working hours and continued to follow up & updating us with the status until done. Both these gents are exactly what the service industry needs!
