“could do better!”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

The panuba inn has the potential to be great but poor service and old rooms let it down. When you need to ask a question you feel like your disturbing the staff as they sit smoking and watching soaps most of the day in the 'restaurant'. Breakfast is advertised at 8am but 9am came and it still wasn't ready. We also had mice in our room which was an unfortunate end to our time at panuba. The beach is nice and we did enjoy the snorkelling trip even though they charged too much for using their gear - it was 100 ringgit each and only with a snorkelling not flippers. We've just returned from the perhentians were we did a full day snorkelling trip with snorkell, flippers and breakfast for 35 ringgit!

“Quiet Paradise”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

This place is very detached from entire island. It is set middle of jungles and you have to trek a bit to get to civilizations.Hands down the best snorkelling beach. If you are looking forward to spend quiet time , look at sea, snorkel and relax. This is good. You can climb for 10 mins thru mountains and get to abc village and teke. We also did the mountain trek to juara beach. its tiring n long, but gorgeous. It doesn have anything after sunset, so u can take a beer n relax at restaurant , enjoy sea breeze or the jetty. I had a wonderful time.

“great !!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Exactly the type of place I was looking for. Only needed a bed and somewhere to eat and the rest of the time I was either snorkeling or relaxing on the beach. It's not luxury by any means, in fact a little bit run-down but the cabins are only metres from the jungle so expect ants and geckos in your room and monkeys on the pathways and the odd monitor lizard on the beach in the early morning light. Food wasn't bad and bed was comfortable. I had a room with A/C but it left it turned off most of the time.
Snorkeling was great and yes, there is dead coral but that's where many of the really colourful fish feed and there's still plenty of live coral to see. I even saw a turtle just near the jetty one day (out of turtle season). Take a walk along the track towards Monkey Bay and in couple of minutes you'll find another beach known as Panuba 2 I believe (try to ignore the rubbish dumped along the track), which was all but deserted most of the time. Snorkeling around the rocks at the far end proved really worthwhile. Also worthwhile was the boat trip to Coral Island and Malang Rock.
Overall I had a really great, cheap (by Australian standards anyway) stay. Only word of caution I would give is the return boat takes much longer than 2 hours. The 1pm pick-up was late, the ferry spent nearly an hour at TekTek and after an anxious trip clock-watching and then waiting for my bag to get unloaded, I didn't get away from the Mersing Jetty until 5.15pm - only just enough time to get my 5.30pm bus to Malaka. As it turned out the bus was also runnng late so there was no need for my anxiety.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

“Nice place”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

A serene place to relax and enjoy nature. The rate is also reasonable. One can take their own sweet time exploring the nearby areas and even go for a nice swim in the clear crystal waters.

“small”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

Small bay which does get the waves in from passing boats. Lots of dead coral up front and you have to be careful for sea urchins which is prob on all the beaches. Fish are everywhere and it doesn't take long to see live coral. There's only 3 sun loungers. More fun to sit on the jetty instead.
