Nazri's Place

25 of us, friends and families had a wonderful retreat in Tioman Island for 3 nights four days. Believe me or not, I wish it could be much longer. Perhaps a month. This hotel in ABC, Air Batang Chalet village, was something I did not expect it to be. I thought it was something similar to other places I have been so far, much developed, but it was just the opposite. This place will surely give you a feeling of relaxation and time has literally no significance at all.Surrounded by lush greeneries and crystal clear blue sea water. Not to forget, variety of foodstalls built right beside the beach were so wonderful. I had barbecue chicken wings at Bob Marley stall while facing the beach at night. The sound of waves splashing on the beach gave extra flavour to my food! The best part was the pizza stall in front of Nazri 1, where we stayed. There were two parts of Nazris anyway, 1 and 2.. REALLY GREAT PIZZAS!
Nothing really high tech there. I felt uncomfortable in the beginning when I realised my tab had no internet connection..but soon I finally part with my tab for four days. No regrets after all. I got the chance to unwind myself and get to know more people. Yes, the people there were friendly. Im already planning now to return to the place although I just came back from there two weeks ago!

We've spend 4 nights here and enjoyed our staying. We toke a more expensive room and that was worth the money. Everything on the island is a bit more expensive (except alcohol and sigs!) so be prepared to pay a bit more if you want a good standard. The place is currently buiding a new restaurant that will have great looks. The beach bar is a good relaxing place and has some nice pizza's. You can see huge lizzard in the garden and also a monkey every now and then.

Currently Nazri's Place is not the right place for romantic hearts. The place is under construction of new buildings, construction material is everywhere you look. I liked the beautiful beach and nearby jungle with monkeys. I didn't like they construct new building right on the beach. I booked deluxe twin room. We got uncleaned room, but they cleaned it after we asked to clean it again. The room was big enough, but the bathroom was small and constantly wet because the shower is not separated and is very close to closet. There was air conditioner in the room but no fan and window nets. In the night I would like to breathe fresh air from the jungle and from the sea, but it was impossible without window nets because of mosquitos. The breakfast was nothing special: toasts, pancakes, eggs, butter, I would prefer some asian noodles or rice. We decided to leave after first night. If you wish to book a room then you have to text (SMS) to Nazri's daughter. I couldn't receive any reply by email.

I have to mention Mr.NAZRI himself;) He is around 70 years old, quiet vital for his age, really funny and with big sense of humor.
He's been running his business very well with his wife and whole family, daughters, sons, grandchildren's,I can't even remember how many of them is living there;)

I am happy to choose Air Batang and Nazri's Place for my New Year holiday. It's nature and quite quiet, only one restaurant open on the island. From ABC jetty, turn right and walk to the end that's Nazri's Place. When you turn right, you can find accomodations easier than turn left. Most of guesthouses when you turn left closed in monsoon and have bad rocky beach. Nazri's Place has the best beautiful beach overall, beautiful garden and grass, that's the place for sunset too, and stairs walking to Tekek town (40 minutes). For peak days, they serve pizza at night. The rooms are not excellent though acceptable, big enough and the best I can find in monsoon days. 100 RM for ac room. No kettle in room, only a pot and you can ask owner for hot water. The owner is so kind to pick coconut for us. Love this place

Stayed in a budget aircon room, room was basic but adequate. Aircon and hot showers working.

The room comes with breakfast and must say was nice (eggs, sausage, baked beans, toast, pancake, fruits, orange juice, coffee and tea), simple but welcoming.

Location at ABC jetty, 10 mins walk. Quiet area and very laid back. Family-run chalet and they never disturb you during your stay.

Caution though, lots of cats. Actually the whole island are full of cats :)

Room Tip: Bring a torch light and insect repellant

We recently stayed at Nazri’s Place. We took the budget room. The place was full as it was over a Malaysian public holiday (Hari Raya Puasa). Being a diver, I was booked for 5 dives over a 2 day period. I flew into Tioman by Berjaya Air and then caught a boat to ABC beach.

ABC beach (or correctly Air Batang Beach), is accessible by boat or by foot as visitors by car have to drive to the nearest point at the Marine Park jetty and walk over a hill to get to the village. Nazri’s Place is the first in the series of accommodation along the beach. The highlight (to me) of this place, is the little shack on the beach which opens at sunset, and serves pizza and beer, and cocktails. You can choose to sprawl around on plastic chairs watching the sunset, or to sit at the bar and enjoy the chaos of orders being called out.

Our room was in a single stretch of 5 adjoining rooms facing a small garden. Across from us were the double story concrete accommodation but ours was a more traditional wooden structure. The room comes with 1 queen sized and 1 single bed so can actually fit 3. There is airconditioning and hot water. The furnishing is just 1 cupboard, and a dressing table. Pretty basic. I would have liked some hangers in the bathroom to hang our stuff during our shower.

Breakfast and lunch are at a little restaurant overlooking the sea. Nice and breezy place. Unfortunately for us, it being a public holiday, the place was inundated with tourists so I cant really judge how good their normal service is. They even ran out of the big bottles of water.

We had a hook up with a nearby dive centre (Ray’s Dive Adventure) which is about 10 minutes walk away. Ray’s team actually coordinated my transfer to and from the airport which is much appreciated – especially since my dive gear is quite difficult to manage.

The walk to and from the resort to the dive centre is beautiful as the pathway runs along the beach. Watch out for motorcycles, sidecars, and bicycles though as the path can just about accommodate a motorcycle with a sidecar. As this beach is cut off from the rest of the island by road, these are about the only means of land transportation around.

All in an enjoyable and comfortable stay.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms look nice but might be noisy because the eating areas are very nearby.
