“Not so wonderful experience”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Booked for a 3 days 2 night stay with my wife and 5 year old daughter. We stayed in Charles as we were told during booking that this was the only room available.

The room is big, with sitting area, king bed and bunk bed. As what other reviewers have pointed out, the hotel needs some refurbishment. Some say this is part of the experience - musky smell, damp carpets. Probably, but not for us.

The hotel staff and manager were very polite and tried to make our stay the most enjoyable one. No complain on that.

Oh The room we stayed is situated on the ground floor. There is a backdoor to the backyard area adjacent to the kitchen. We could hear staff chatting while smoking near the back door, and thus we never opened the living area windows. And sadly I couldnt relax to read books on the comfy chair provided in the room - due to the noise. Motorcyle, staff chatting, visitors chatting, etc. Our trip coincided with a group of 20+ people having their function in the hotel for the same 3 days and the hotel seemed a bit busy, and noisy for my liking.

I was hoping for a quiet weekend. I was told that this place is just that - no TV in room, weak internet, and was prepared to relax - so I was quite disappointed.

Tea - scones, cake etc. Good.
Food in Smokehouse restaurant, breakfast. Good.
Location - quite far, so was hoping to be quiet, relaxing..not so much.

Room Tip: Dont stay in Charles. Get the first floor rooms if you need a good relaxing time in room.

Came here to frasers hill by chance but it was a splendid experience. It was getting a little cold so we came into this place called the Scotts Restaurant. Food was superb, service was excellent and very very reasonable. The ambiance of this place of the old Scottish/English was preserved very well. Henry the Assistant Manager was very cheerful and helpful. The view from here overlooking the small cottage city is magnificent. You'll never get this experience elsewhere. The journey up and down the hill can be a little challenging especially during wet weathers. Plan well ahead and travel during the day. Avoid driving in the night if possible, as roads are narrow, windy and dark!!!

We arrived at the hotel after the long drive up the hill which leads to Fraser's hill. The hotel is in a nice setting just outside the village (easy walking distance) and a short distance from some of the walking trails.

The room was nice and large with a nice bunk bed for the kids. The bathroom was large with lots of hot water. The beds were a little soft (I do like a solid bed),but comfortable.

The hotel maintains a British colonial feel, and we did like staying there, even if it was a little overpriced.

The evening tea was pleasant and relaxing, though the cakes were merely ok.

The breakfast was as (almost)expected disappointing. It was meant to be a full English breakfast, but beef bacon is no substitute for the real thing.

I stayed in this hotel for one night. My Husband and I love this place so much. The staffs there are all friendly and nice. Everytime they see you they would smile to you all the time. The decoration in the hotel is not just like a boutique hotel but also like your own sweet home. They prepared a basket of fruit in your room. When you enter the room you would smell the flower in the air from the dry flower leave on the table. The deco in the room is romantic and suitable for the couple who want to relax and enjoy a quiet enviroment.

Room Tip: If possible suggest to go during the weekdays, you might stand a chance to be the only guest in the...

Stayed in this hotel for one night on 25-Aug-12. Walked In guest. Overall, good experiences. I've taken Charles Room (Family Room), located at GF, just besides the dining hall. One king sized bed and a double decker bed. The double decker bed looks not so strong as it keep swayed when you changed your sleeping position. Worried that it may collapse to my daughter, I rather sleep together with her on the lower deck and my other 2 children sleep with my wife. Environment is cosy and nice. As said, with the price paid, don't expect top notch hotels facilities. Friendly staff and they even arrange a supper for my son who goes hungry at 9.30pm. Yes. The kitchen will close at about that time. Having Fish & Chips. While waiting, I enjoy a cool and charming internal decorations. Finished the supper about 10.30pm and we goes to sleep. At 3am, my son suddenly wake up and unable to sleep. Goes out from the room. Nobody at the hall. The entrance door was locked!. Turned on the Living hall lights and turn on Astro so that my son can watch his favorite cartoon. Yes. Only the living hall has a TV. While he is watching the TV, I wanders all the door are locked and no way going out in the middle of the nights? Overall, the room is ok. Didn't noticed ants and mosquito. The water pressure is just right. Some waitress are unable to comprehend English well.

This hotel worth 5 stars due to its lovely English design and very homey environment. The staffs are very friendly, and attentive. There is a living room, TV room, dining hall, small bar, garden and a yard for tea,all well decorated with Old-English furniture. We stayed in Guinevere room, which is more like a honeymoon suite, very spacious, with a separated dining room, a basket of fresh fruits served, a electrical fire place, comfy sofas, King -sized bed, dressing room, a jacuzzi and a separate shower. Our 18month old boy loves this room so much that he couldnt stop running around ,exploring new things, esp the jacuzzi! Bath in the warm jacuzzi in the cold weather with beautiful hills view is such a relaxing moment! This is like a home more than a room! the only negative side of the hotel is~ there is no fan in the room ( air-conditioner is not necessary as the weather is quite cold at night). This make the room quite stuffy in the afternoon, and lots of mosquitos at night. The hotel provide us with repellent but obviously the mosquitos already immune to it! Our boy cried at night due to itchiness and all of us go home with mosquitos bitten bumps. Having tea in the garden is very enjoyable with chilly weather, beautiful flowers, butterflies and birds coming around stopped on trees nearby ,chirping with theirs songs. The cream tea for two is highly recommended, served with tea, delicious scones, brownies, cakes and apple pie. The hotel serves delicious and quality dinner, eventhough is a bit pricey, we had mixed grill, grill Dorry(which is a bit too salty to my taste), kids fish fingers and scotch broth. All are in big portion ,fresh and tasty. We are actually quite amazed that they have a good cook high up in the hills like Fraser's hill. Dont forget to buy the homemade almond cookies at the counters, taste really good, i regretted not to buy more!
As for the Faser's hill itself, not much of activities available. Bird watching was the main attraction here, we went for horse riding, paddle pool and mini putting area near the food court. We tried out an English restaurant named Scott's Restaurant near the entrance of Fraser's hill, they served delicious Thai green curry! The local food at the foodcourt is not worth trying, but is much cheaper than the restaurants,if money is the limit.
Generally, this is a nice place for family outing,we chose here because of its weather and serene environment compared to other places like Genting highlands or Bukit Tinggi, which are very crowded with tourists. We enjoyed the stay and the time we spent in such a homey hotel, hard to find another one in KL town.

Room Tip: the suites could be quite noisy during weekends because they are located above the bar and tea area...
