The name says it all - thatched bungalows with white bed-linen and curtains blowing in the gentle sea breeze, the gentle sound of the sea as you drop off and as you awake, and the exotic plants in the grounds all combine to magical effect. The staff are discreet but helpful, the food is excellent and the choice of pool or beach may be the hardest decision you have to make.
Four stars rather than 5 as the hotel is rather pricey by Madagascar standards: we were charged 40,000 Ariary per head for lunch (= £12 or $19) and 60,000 Ariary for transport to and back from the Raniela nature reserve. Raniela is, however, well worth a visit. As is this little corner of paradise.

I stayed at Le Paradisier at the start of a 2 week holiday in the South and West of Madagascar - along with 4 girl friends. We had booked one twin and one triple room, and were allocated neighbouring chalets (it sounds obvious, but at every other hotel we stayed at, we were allocated rooms at either end of the property, so couldn't just "pop next door" to see the others!), with double and single beds accordingly (twin had 1 double 1 single, and the triple had 1 double and 2 singles).
The road to get there from the airport at Tulear was not fantastic (but that's something any traveller to Africa would be used to) - a bit windy and at times sandy, so if you're likely to get motion sick, please make sure you take the necessary precautions, as some of our group weren't feeling too great when we arrived.
The rooms were really lovely and airy - and had wonderful views out to the beach. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in them though, as the pool was just too amazing to move from! For some of us, it was the very start of a holiday, while some of the girls had been on the road for a few weeks already, and we just wanted to swim, relax and enjoy doing nothing. This was the perfect place for us to do just that!
Half board was included - though we also ate lunch onsite each day as the quality of the food was really great... probably the best food we had in the whole 2 weeks, though it was all of a really high standard.
Our waitress was one of the shining stars of our entire time in Madagascar - I have to give special mention to Clementine, as she was really a wonderful personality, and made us feel very welcome. She thought her English was quite limited (and we speak no French), but she helped us understand the menu, and once we got her chatting, she had a great sense of humour, and was actually able to chat to us quite a bit!
The pool was just amazing - to the point that I didn't actually bother to go down to the beach at all during the stay.... the modern convenience of WIFI at the pool was also a treat - we could catch up on emails in between swims!
We chose Le Paradisier because it was recommended on travel forums, and I have to say, the information we got was spot on. I add my name to the list of people recommending Le Paradisier to anyone heading to this beautiful part of the world!

We spent three weeks in Madagascar and this one of the very best places we stayed in. It is a really lovely location looking out to the reef, waves lapping on the little beach, the unique spiny forest vegetation

The drive up to Ifaty from Tulear is fascinating. While the road is very rough in places, you also see some beautiful geography but also some of the desperate poverty of Madagascar.

The rooms are very comfortable, but the stairs up to the bedroom are rather steep and not fun if you have to get up in the middle of the night. The food was generally good as was the service but we had one very ordinary breakfast with next to no service.

That said would very happily return and would recommend

You couldn't find a lovelier spot to get lost off the map than Le Paradisier. This hotel is beautifully located on a lovely beach among flowers and spiny forest and you'll wake up in the morning with an unobstructed view of the sea and the sounds of the birds in the canopy all around you. The staff are welcoming and discrete and the food is very good. Special remarks go to the head waitress for her attention to detail and verve. The hotel is eco-friendly, using solar energy for light, so you won;t find plug sockets for electric appliances - leave your work at home! Many of the bungalows are semis but you'll still feel calm and privacy and a good level of beach comfort.

The hotel isn't within walking distance of Mangily, so you'll have to organise transport to diving lessons and other activities. It would be good it the hotel could provide sturdy mountain bikes or scooters for guests to hire during their stay, to increase mobility. The pristine location also means that your evenings will be low key. We walked a kilometre or so down the beach for sundowners one night, but get ready for early nights with a long drink and your travel companion. Also to bear in mind before you book le Paradisier as your beach bum destination, the beach in front of the hotel isn't great for swimming because of rocks, the long low tides and urchins, and you'll probably feel more comfortable sunbathing by the pool. One more tip to the hotel - it would be good to increase the options at breakfast - the breads, pastries and fruit were lovely for a couple of days, but we would have liked more choices given that we stayed for several nights (how about simple options like pancakes and omelettes?).

This hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. It's great that all bungalows are facing the sea with a beautiful view. There was a lot of natural light in the bungalow and it was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and the food and service was great! On top of that this is a "Green" hotel as it is only using renewable energy. The only downside of this hotel is that the beach isn't the best but it is all beaches in Ifaty that aren't great.
