We thought a private cabin would be great for our honeymoon, but this cabin did not meet our expectations. Up until arrival, the owner was quick at responding, and the reviews we read on the vacation rental website were all amazing reviews. We showed up to find clumps of hair on the floor, food crumbs all over the bottom of the oven and fridge, a cockroach in the living room, ants in the bathroom, and a tampon wrapper on top of the broken bathroom trash can. The cabin was not cleaned at all; it was as if the previous guests had just left moments earlier. The master bedroom's mattress was very sunken in and old. Neither of us felt safe, either, which was a first for us. We have stayed in many cabins before, but not once have we felt unsafe or disgusted by the conditions until this visit.
While we were planning to stay five nights, we left after only one. I emailed the owner the morning after the first night regarding our concerns of the cleanliness, and he never responded (this was the middle of May and it is now the end of July); after no response, I wrote a review on multiple websites and still never heard from him. The situation could've been rectified with proper professional cleaning, a partial refund, or at the very least an apology. The lack of professionalism is appalling, especially after having had no issues with the owner previously (though he is unprofessional in the way he writes). I definitely recommend renting a cabin through a professional company.
Note: if you do book this cabin, be careful of the time change if you are planning on doing things in Chattanooga. Chattanooga is on Eastern Time, but this cabin is in Central Time. We were under the impression that a trip from the cabin to Chattanooga would take 30 minutes, but it took about 40-45.
