We called in at the end of a 2 day slow boat trip to Luang Prabang. The climb up was worth the view and different perspective of the river. Take torches and be prepared to get caught in a afternoon deluge

I am glad i went here. There are many steps to walk and the caves are not big, but still, it's a nice thing to have seen. The upper cave is definitely the best one. You can buy a small flower/incense decoration for a tiny fee to put on a Buddhist altar. They let you borrow flash lights for free. The lower cave is not really a cave, its just many, many Buddhas, but all in all I would say it's worth a visit, if you're interested in culture and Buddhism.
I liked it :)

I would just say the boat journey to there is quite good....seeing the scenery while you are on the boat and be on the river. However if you are not there with someone to explain you the history, you nay find it to be boring.

Plus there is nothing in particular special in the cave except standing Buddhas.

Boring.

We visited the Pak Ou caves in July 2013. You will travel for about 2 hours on the Mekong River to reach these two caves housing thousands of Buddhas. Quite a sight to behold! One cave is dark so if you have a flashlight it will come in handy. Also, we did not know that people still bring Buddhas today to place in the caves and we would have picked some up at a shop in Luang Prabang if we had known. We had lunch at a restaurant across the river from the caves. It had an extensive menu and the meal was enjoyable.

Have a good guide describing you the history otherwise you'll be wondering how they got there. Across from the cave on the river, there is a small village worth a visit with a cute temple and quite a good restaurant with great view over the river.
