“The trip up the Mekong is half the fun”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

The caves are unique, and make sure you visit the upper caves. It's some tough climbing, but worth the effort. The caves, themselves, only require a short visit, an hour at best. But combined with the boat trip, and stops at local villages, it makes for a wonderful morning or afternoon tour of a remote part of Laos. There's not much to do in Luang Prabang, so if you're there you should try and set aside the time to take this trip.

“A place of worship”

The place has a great importance for locals and for Buddist people from other countries. They visit the place by hundreds and leave their votives. however, we liked the boat trip to this place.

“Nice cave but not for the faint hearted”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

Lovely caves however note there are lots of steps to climb up and you will first need to take a short boat drive to the cave

“Journey into the heart of darkness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013 via mobile

Unless you are a jaded tourist, then do take this trip up the Mekhong. The caves are set in some spectacular scenery. The limestone cliffs rise steeply from the river. There are many stairs- particularly if you visit the upper caves which are well worth the climb-so you need to be in reasonable shape to make the climb. We went with some Laotian people-so it was perhaps easier for us to see the outing as an adventure and pilgrimage rather than as a "wow-me" experience. Carry a head lamp or flashlight for the upper caves so you can explore some of the darker recesses.

“The boat ride was the best part”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

The caves themselves were not all that exciting but I enjoyed the boat ride there on the Mekong. So if you decide to go there be sure to go by boat even though it took over an hour to get there which included a stop at the "whiskey" village.
