Stayed Here for one night but wish it was longer. When we saw photos we all wanted to use this lodge. Breakfast was large and gorgeous. Evening meal the same. Only fault, thought the drinks were on the expensive side. Rooms were plenty big enough with lovely showers and comfy beds. We stayed on one of the very furthest away lodges but didn't mind as the walk to the room was always fun and views were great.

Amazing venue for the overnight stay of our 2 day 1 night safari with Pollmans. Ignoring the bugs and other insecty creatures it was a good overnight base.

Sitting in the breakfast room watching 50-100 red elephants walking down the hillside towards you was amazing.

A must do !!!

Room Tip: Our room (305) did not look over the watering hole and none of the rooms have air-con making it a st...

We had a three day safari with Saltlick being the last one. The hotel did not supply lunch so we had to go to another lodge for that. When we arrived there was not the familiar cold flannel offered after being in the dust all day.
Our room had a faulty lock on the door and there was no plug for the sink, otherwise the room was original and attractive.
The underground viewing tunnel, the windows were dirty or there was a mesh over them which
caused problems with taking any photos
Unfortunately there had been rain so there were no animals who visited the water hole in the time we were there!
Having said that, the staff were friendly and the food was lovely. We feel that the lodge was disappointing and over rated.

On the positive side, the watering hole and blind at the hotel gave us a great opportunity to see elephants up close face to face and from below, the setting is beautiful, and the staff were friendly. The unusual design with suspended walkways allows the lodge to use fewer lights at night, making for some great stargazing. We saw lots of elephants on our game drives. We liked having access to the swimming pool at the sister Taita Hills lodge nearby.

In the middle, the food is standard for a safari lodge: plentiful and fairly good, but nothing special.

On the negative side, the lodge is not easy to get to. The three-hour drive from Mombasa described by the Sarova booking agent was actually a four and a half hour drive, weaving around exhaust-belching trucks most of the way. Sleeping can also be a challenge: the beds are exceptionally hard, akin to sleeping on the ground. On one of the nights, the room was sweltering (there is no air conditioning), on one, warm, and on the last pleasantly cool. For those used to the multitude of animals at places like the Masai Mara, the game drives are a bit boring.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the watering hole.

I stayed at the Salt Lick Lodge (as it was then) with my parents on a family holiday to Kenya - 2 weeks at the beach broken up with a safari. This place was better than even I had been hoping for - as other reviewers have said, the views are amazing. From the terrace (which is also the dining/bar area), you look down on the watering hole. As is so often the case on safari, you have to get up early to really experience this to its very best - but we were also lucky and got some awesome sights in an evening. The tunnel down to the hide, which is right next to the watering hole, is also definitely worth checking out - take your camera, of course!

We barely spent any time in our rooms - they were clean, basic, and everything we'd expected - but nothing too glamourous. As you can see from the photos, the bedrooms are all set up on raised wooden walkways, which means you can occasionally get a great view just on the walk to the reception/restaurant - but really the views are best from the dining area, so I wouldn't choose to pay extra for a watering hole-facing room.

The lodge is amazing. We stayed there one night. Service and rooms are great. We had a view on a water hole from our room. The baboons noticed us at the window immediately, approached closer and we dropped them avocado fruit. What a view. There is an open terrace overlooking water hole, however, people are loud, therefore, don't thing many animals are coming here after sunset. We haven't seen many. Great place to stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking a water whole and second level of rooms for still better view.
