We drove in a two wheel drive vehicle from Nairobi. This is a six hour drive from the city. The lodge is situated in Lumo conservancy which is in the neighborhood of Tsavo West national park. It has a stunning view with a 270 degree panoramic view. You get to appreciate the plains of savanna land,Mount Kilimanjaro best appreciated during sunrise and sunset, and the Taita hills. The theme by design and location is the view, with the setting of every amenity intended to maximise on this, from the rooms, the dining and the lounges. The rooms are rustic with a touch of modern comfort. Service is friendly and personalised. Out of the many lodges in Kenya, lions bluff has one the most stunning view and therefore overall one of my favorite lodges. It is highly recommended.

Now that the tarmac has reached Mwatate and the balance has been recently graded we are even easier to reach by 2 wheel drive vehicle. "The View with a lodge" was the easiest tag line in the world to invent, your review sums it up beautifully, thank you.

This place is really special. We kickstarted our Kenya trip with a 3 night safari in the Tsavo area - this was the best of the 3 lodges we stayed it.
Strange to mention first off but I found it helpful that the lodge made it clear that you should tip once at the end - as I begrudge having to do so throughout and not knowing when and when not to.
The camp is beautiful and simple in style. The food was the best I had in Kenya and the staff were second to none. Plus there are stunning views over to Mt Kilimanjaro.
I found it slightly alarming that there was a need for masai guards to take you to dinner at night - not sure if due to animals or people...
The lodge was simpler and all the better for it than the sarova ones we stayed in the 2 previous nights - I should of found out more about how and if it helped the local community.
Anyway - come here!

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your Tsavo safari and Lions Bluff in particular. Tipping can be a difficult issue when abroad, we believe that all staff should share the income and that the client must be aware of this policy from the onset.
We hope to see back at the Bluff on your next Kenyan holiday.

Lion's Bluff strap line is 'A View with a Room' well, you've got to see it to believe it. Stunning, unforgettable are just a couple of adjectives that spring to mind. Perched on a bluff with a 360 degree panoramic view, the African plains stretch out before you....the cloud shadows chasing the sun across the vista.
Iain Leckie, the owner of Lion's Bluff is a congenial, fun and charming host who brings the magic of safari alive. On offer are game walks, safari breakfast and sundowners, led by knowledgeable rangers who are all from the surrounding communities, the 'add ons' make this such a special place....when we were there we had the wonderful experience of finding a new-born gazelle fawn curled up in the bush; he never moved a muscle, just opened one eye, blinked and quickly closed it again! Game is plentiful, depending on the time of year, but searching for it is half the fun and you can pretty much guarantee to see elephant, giraffe, all the plain animals and if you're lucky, lion, cheetah, leopard and the aardwolf.
The food is excellent, the wine very well priced considering that everything has to come up from Voi, even the water so please conserve it, the bandas comfortable and secluded all with en suite bathrooms.
It's not top, top end but for anyone wanting to capture the feel of bygone safaris in a small, intimate environment, where nothing is too much trouble and the staff go out of their way, especially the lovely Naomi who is the receptionist, to make your stay the most memorable ever, then this is the lodge for you..

Room Tip: There is a massage service and talk of a spa but I have not experienced either, there is no swimming...

Carol
Its always a pleasure hosting folk who enjoy relaxing in the bush. We have had some great experiences with you and your friends over several visits. I agree Naomi is a star and really enjoys showing visitors Lions Bluff and the opportunities in the LUMO Community Wildlife Sanctuary.
We look forward to your next visit to the Bluff!

After eighteen years of visiting Kenya we have settled on self-drive safari as the way to go. This was the first time that we booked the whole trip on-line from England and it worked a treat.
Lion's Bluff was recommended by Kenyan friends who, as soon as they heard we were going, booked themselves in for the same three nights!
Our journey from Shimba Hills was interesting as the new tarmac from Voi to Taveta only lasted for half the way there and we were sent on a diversion into the Taita Hills. When the road is completed it will be brilliant. The lodge's location is magnificent, made even more so by the fact that you approach from the rear. All the rooms have the amazing view and are very well appointed with excellent beds. The main lodge is very nice but it is the viewing platform that makes it really special.
We did our own game drives in the Lumo conservancy and had some excellent sightings, especially of the elephants. We could take as long as we liked to do some photography, always a bonus with self-drive.
Service was very good though we did have to wait too long for dinner in the evening. Meals were fine but we would have liked them to be a little less western European. We were in Africa after all! Lastly we were assured that our chosen route onward to Amboseli via Taveta, Chala, Rombo and Oloitokitok would be fine and this proved to be so - thank you Iain!

Self drive is an adventurous way of seeing Kenya, but worth it when it comes to having your own time schedules. LUMO,s wildlife is often viewed in a rush, it's so peaceful to just park and watch their interactions. We hope to see you back at the Bluff on your next Kenyan adventure!

So we're doing a trip from Antwerpen to Capetown by 4x4, and returning from the Machame route on Mount Kilimanjaro we crossed the Kenian border and arrived after dark without a reservation with 2 cars, 5 people. You can't be treated any better then the way we were. A warm welcome with big smiles from the staff, we enjoyed a sundowner G&T and a tasty dinner was prepared for us a la carte even though it was late. After dinner and a couple of drinks at the bar we were guided to our rooms for a good night sleep. We we woke up we saw the most beautiful view from a suite we had ever experienced in Africa : beyond belief !! The champagne breakfast in the bush impressed us in a way that it made us silent of pure happyness: the-so-lucky-to-be-alive-feeling. Rates are very, very reasonable, cheap to European standards even. So if you really want to leave a lifelong impression after a trip to Kenia, or to Africa for that matter, you've just found a spot that will do that.
A big Thank You to the friendly staff that made our stay a dream-like experience.

Room Tip: Any room, they hang from a cliff to offer the best possible 270° view of the surrounding 30 miles...

What a place! Cottages with a very private setting, unbelievable sun downer and great views.Bond fire in the evening, very well stocked bar, great food- what else do you need?- Yes- during diner you hear the lions roar from two different directions- also elephants visited Lions Bluff in the morning knocking down some trees to get to the green tops. No fences or electric wires give you the ultimate safari experience- but don't run around after dark alone- you might end up as supper- trust in the Masai guards! Thanks to all staff and management for a lovely stay!

The place is absolutely breathtaking! The room was very clean featuring a wonderful panoramic view of the park. Both the food and the staff were excellent especially the masai guards escorting us all over the place. As there is no electric fence at this lodge you really need them because animals can come as close as your doorstep. :) The way to the lodge was a bit long and as being a dirtroad as usual in Africa, it was a very bumpy ride. But when sitting on your terrace the view makes up for every inconvenience of the road to the lodge!

Thank you for your review. Yes the roads to our sanctuaries can be a bit bumpy! The good news is that the new tarmac road past us is in progress which will make Lions Bluff that much easier to reach. I hope to see you back enjoying the views soon.
