“3 lions at their wateringhole (!) but paperthin walls and overpriced drinks”
Reviewed August 19, 2011

We stayed here for two nights due to a sudden family emergency. Helpful reception who fitted us in at 930pm.

Spent 3 hours watching pride of lions waiting for a kill at the hotel watering hole! Also elephants, waterbuck, warthogs, etc. Great.

Room fine (fitted 4 of us in). Lots of room for children to roam freely, plus small playground with safe equipment, plus small pool.

But this is a hotel mainly for large safari groups. Very poor sleep both nights (despite good beds) due to paperthin breezeblock walls and people talking loudly in one room (not close) till 1230, - and then 30+ from a tourgroup greeting each other individually infront of our door at 6am before setting off on their game drive. Hotel management: please ask tourgroups to chat in the bar if wanting to chat say after 11pm and before 6am.

Food tasted ok but odd range. Drinks very overpriced - 400 KSh for Tusker.

Stayed in Manyatta Tented camp as part of a 4 day safari booked through WT safaris in conjunction with Kenyan Travel in England - Anne Sanderson is amazing and will tailor make your safari to suit your needs - we had an excellent driver who spotted us all the animals we could have hoped for - We booked from the UK then a representative from WT met us out there and went through everything - only then did we pay! THe camp was night 3 of our experience - the tents are AMAZING - every one with its own little pool on the veranda - we were lucky enough to be there when 3 lioness where stalking out some buffalo - then eating our evening meal - a thunderous noise came from the river bed just in front of the restuarant - a herd of buffalo followed by the lions ran straight in front of us - AMAZING sight,,, THe food is incredible - 6 course lunch and dinner and all you could possible want for breakfast.. and the staff are so friendly and very informative about the animals in the area etc... The pictures of this camp do not do it justice it is beautiful in an awesome location - we cant thank Anne enough for our safari experience

Having found the Lodges inside the Park full, we decided to take a chance on Voi Wildlife Lodge. It was a chance worth taking. Conveniently placed just off the main road, this made a great stop-over on the way to/from Nairabi-Mombasa.

It is only just outisde the Park and the Gate is just a few hundred yards away so we were able to spend time in the Park with no time lost.

The cold juice welcome is standard to Lodges in Kenya and very welcome. The room was really lovely-clean and very spacious. The bathroom had a walk in shower and again spacious.

The Lodge is capable of taking large numbers of visitors but it was pretty empty so very quiet (which we enjoy). There is a very nice water hole and a viewing platform equipped with comfy chairs along a raised walk way although nothing much came to it, it made a lovely feature which promises much.

At $70/per/night this lodge represents excellent value for money!

Room Tip: ASk for one near to restaurant as this is also has view of waterhole

This is a relatively new lodge opened in 2003 and as there were no ele's at Voi stockades thought we would try out this lodge.

We were not disappointed.

It is just 5 km off the main highway and is situated on the boundary of Tsavo East.

The lodge has a large water hole and we saw a lot of game - elephants buffalo and quite a large variety of wild life.

Thanks to Ferdinand Mwangwa of Beach Air Tours and safaris we were allocated a large room with two large double beds and lovely en-suite bathroom and a balcony overlooking the plains.

The food was excellent in The Tembo restaurant which also had views across the plains ot Tsavo East - buffet service - but substantial breakfasts - lunches and dinners.

There is The sundowner Bar and lounge with a game viewing platform on stilts overlooking the waterhole and extends into the park allowing you to get really near to the sights and sounds of the bush.

Also adjacent to the Tembo Restaurant, the Mandhari Bar provides a setting to enjoy a sundowner before dinner and view game.

There many amenities at this lodge - a pool - jacuzzi - gym- sauna room - steam bath - cold bath and many more.

We only stayed one night and the main objective was the safari but if staying for more nights would have certainly used the facilities.

We did use the pool however.

On our game drives we were lucky enough to spot elephant, buffalo, cheetah and a lioness with cubs and male and female ostrich.
Also a Hunter's Hartlebeest.

There is also a large abandunce of bird species around here.

The one down side - nothing to to with the safari and lodge was that I usually pack for hubby and myself but did niot know which long trousers he wanted therefore left the bag open for him to put in.

On arriving and unpacking - no trousers.

Therefore a trip into Voi town was required which luckily was quite near but being mzungu were given strange looks and even more when he asked in the shops if they sold long trousers.

It was interesting to see the town but he did eventually get a second had pair which he gave to the driver after the safari. And he wasted safari time!!!!!
Now I pack everything and jus tleave the bag open for last minute items.!!

We then went on to Ngulia lodge from here seeing plent more game but no rhino this time unfortunately.

Staff again were friendly, courteous and efficient. Asante

I was so pleased with my stay here. The setting is beautiful, the facilities well maintained, the room was kept very clean, and the food was varied and fresh with lots of vegetarian options. Most importantly, the staff seemed very well-treated and happy, which one must consider!

WoW !! what a location.. the watering hole and the salt lick.. elephants, dik diks, zebras, gnus, etc all can be found at the boundaries of this place..

You will have your fill of the African elephants.. Choose the 1st floor rooms in the lodge, it will give you an excellent view of the water hole !!

Room Tip: choose the 1st floor rooms..

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night on a 3 day safari to Tsavo. The hotel has a great location overlooking a waterhole and the visiting wildlife was superb. I found the rooms clean and comfortable but no in room phone to contact reception which is a 5 minute walk away for a basic question. Food was OK and the staff were superb. I booked with STT Safaris in Mombasa north coast. I booked on the beach outside my hotel after reading several reviews and looking at their website. I asked and got Aziz and he was a gentleman and a superb guide. Also see my reviews on Bamburi Beach Hotel, Travellers Beach club and Ngulia Lodge.
