“The best Camp in Kenya”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

For a little extra, you can go to Galdessa,it's worth it,the French lady Silvia was fantastic, even the tents were spotless.

If you want to feel like an explorer in the wilds of Africa ,this is the place,so much wildlife.

Big bull elephant walking pass your tent about 3ft away, you can even smell him.we stayed in tent 1 main camp, that's the tent all elephants,Hippos, walk pass when they leave the river.

We took a bottle of champagne with us,it was pure magic, having a glass on your veranda whilst watching and listening to the real Africa.

The Masai guards add that proper feel of being in an old black white Tarzan film.

My wife didn't appreciate me wearing my loin cloth and shouting arrrr arrrrr arrrrrr ,only joking.

This whole experience was fantastic, down to the staff, food, walk, tents.big thanks to Elvis.

Booked our safari with Jt safaris, private 4x4 ice box etc excellent

Galdessa is pure magic, pay a little extra, you know your worth it.

Thank you Galdessa ,Silvia xxxx

Room Tip: Tent one,Elephants,Hippos, and so much more walk straight pass you,

Stayed here 4th - 5th Oct with family. This Wasn;t our 1st visit to Tsavo East so we knew what to expect to a degree but hadn't stayed near the river before! Wow!!! wow!!! wow!!! were we in for a treat!! The location, lodge, food. wildlife and the outstanding hospitality blew us away! The foot safari over Luggards falls was totally amazing and unexpected as this was not included in our schedule. walking so close to nature in such beautiful surroundings was a very emotional experience for me!

The Lodge was exceptionally well equipped and the bed comfortable! 1 point to mention however is to leave the blinds up to sleep otherwise you may be in for an unbearably hot night!

Be prepared for lots of food!! There are 4 courses and if like me you are not a huge eater you may want to skimp a little!

The most important tip of all is to make sure that you have some sturdy walking boots with you for this trip as you will need them for luggards falls walk as the terrain is very rocky and uneven. some of our party had to turn back as they could not manage it. If you are not steady on your feet or do not have suitable footwear with you then this will not be for you!

To summarise this was one of the most memorable experiences of my life so far and when we go back to Kenya we intend to stay at Galdessa again but for longer.

Room Tip: #rooms closer to the restaurant are preferable #Suitable walking boots essential #Stay minimum 2 n...

Lovely setting with daybreak views of hippos running into the river below our luxury tent! A difficult drive on narrow bumpy roads from Watamu or Melindi, but great wildlife views on the drive. The staff is very helpful and the food is quite good. Game drives in the surrounding area are excellent. This spot is quite remote from other camps which makes for real privacy. Value is much better than some other luxury camps.

Room Tip: Look for tent locations to the right of the main lodge. Keep camera handy for elephants walking rig...

What a place, so beautiful, right on the river, with animals visiting day and night.
During the three nights we were there, we were only guests staying, but this did not lower standards. The driver Thomas tried so hard finding animals and organising surprises such as a Bush walk, Bush breakfast and sun downer while watching elephants drink, Joseph who looked after our room, who nothing was too much trouble and Peter who looked after restaurant / bar with so much attention to detail.Thank you all and also rest of back room team.
We will never forget the Elephants visiting our tent, the noises at night and laying on the day bed at night , looking at the stars.
Tsavo East wonderful park, so quiet, it was two days before we saw another vehicle. We also visited the Sheldrick trust at Voi, my wife still has a smile , seeing all the Ellies.

Room Tip: We had the " honeymoon tent " ,but all tents in great position. Only issue is getting ther...

I found Galdessa to be the perfect representation of the African adventure that we all dream of as children. Wild animals, beautiful terrain and a friendly staff that was more than accommodating. At night you fall asleep to the music that only hippos, elephants and hyenas can create and in the morning you are greeted by a smiling face and the hope to see the wildlife that the bush holds. While on my trip I was lucky enough to see not one but two leopards in one game drive. Anyone that has been on Safari knows how rare an occasion it is to see a leopard at all as they are one of the more elusive cats in the wild. As an artists I fell in love with Galdessa because it allowed for me to sit for hours on end drawing and painting elephants and hippos as they sauntered through the camp. In all my travels Kenya has been one of my favorite places on the planet and I cannot wait to return to Galdessa. If I ever doubted the existence of magic, this place erased any remaining thoughts that lingered.

We arranged our stay at Galdessa through JT Safaris in Diani Beach. We only stayed one night as part of a two night, three day safari for our honeymoon and it was absolutely wonderful!

When we arrived we were told that everyone else had just left and we had the entire camp to ourselves. We were shown around and appointed a 'helper' who would escort us to and from our tent (its more like a really lovely room) to protect us from any overfriendly wildlife and who would heat up water for our camp shower whenever we fancied one. The main restaurant and bar tent is lovely with beautiful views of the river below and any wildlife that might be visiting. Don't be surprised when you are escorted to the loo, you really are in the wild and animals both live in the camp and pass through whenever they fancy so the staff are just trying to keep you safe. Be warned though, if you are not an avid wildlife lover (possibly not the trip for you!) as there is also wildlife in the loos, bats, lizards etc. everything is beautifully kept, the wildlife is just staying over as well! At night time some local masai warriors come and guard the camp and do a wonderful job.

The food was delicious and we were surprised by how much there was, every meal was at least 3 courses and was faultless. We were even treated to a 'congratulations' cake made specially for us for our honeymoon. It was a wonderful surprise!

We stayed in the honeymoon suite which was beautiful, it was very big and lovely inside but the best bits were the beautiful view down over the river (we watched antelope and bull elephants having a drink) and the AMAZING viewing platform next to our room. It was a little tower with a comfy sofa and chairs at the top were we watched the stars and listened to the animals bustling about beneath us as it got dark.

At night time you are not allowed out of your tent as it is not safe but you can lie in bed listening to all sorts of creatures walking past you and try to guess what they are. When we got up in the morning we found hippo, genet and hyena footprints (amongst lots of other ones we did not know). If I was to go here again I would try to get hold of some night vision goggles as then I could really make the best of who was passing by!

During our stay we were surprised with a walking safari (I do not know whether this was organised by the hotel or JT Safaris) and it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. We were met by a national park scientist and a group of Kenya wildlife service rangers and we strolled along the river looking at the leopard footprints, crocodiles, hippos, birdlife, elephants and looking for a leopard den. The men were so friendly and knowledgeable and made it a truly unforgettable experience. I love hyrax and when I mentioned this it took them all of 30 seconds to find me a whole little group of them to see.

All in all a once in a lifetime, faultless experience in a wonderful place with wonderful people. I could not recommend this enough!

Amazing lodge lost in the middle of the park. You won't be able to move out of your highly comfortable tent without calling your personal masai, enjoy the safari and your staying in a magic place, where nature is still untouched.
