Satao camp is one of the closest experiences to nature you will ever get. We woke up to baby gazelles at our footsteps. No fences and a sense of adventure in this luxury version of camping! Great food and great staff + a well stocked bar did it for us!

We stayed here for 2 nights and wow what an experience! Loved the luxury tent! The food was lovely with good choices and the walk to the restaurant through the resident herd of gazelle will definitely be remembered! Topped off by the giraffe which joined us for drinks at the bar! Excellant friendly staff and wonderful base for our safari with us seeing a huge choice of animals.

A visit to this camp is not to be missed, especially in the dry season when huge herds of elephant and other game come to the water hole. The camp is very well run with excellent accommodation, good food and very friendly and helpful staff. You can take the Southern Cross Safari bus from Mombasa to the Buchuma gate of Tsavo East and then transfer to the camps game drive vehicle to be driven to the camp arriving for lunch. Game drives are in the early morning and again in the afternoon with drivers who have excellent knowledge of the game and the bird life. I would recommend 2 nights in order to enjoy the camp experience at its best.See the web site video!

Room Tip: Our tent was called Sala and was extremely comfortable, with a great outlook.

We were staying one night at Satao Camp during our two night private Safari to Tsavo East and West with JT Safaris (www.julius-safaris.com). I really recommend a private safari with them – you can choose yourself where to go and when and during the safari you can make your own choices instead of going where the tour guide takes you with the group. Be aware that there are some other companies, which have almost the same name. The real JT Safaris have their office next to Diani Sea Resort.

Satao Camp offered us a great African experience. Staff was friendly, service great and also the food was very good – especially the dinner. The safari tents are ok but I personally found the overall feeling a little bit dark and some small polishing / details would probably make them even more comfortable. Our tent could accommodate the whole family of 4. All tents have very spacious and clean bathrooms with nice decoration. This lodge has no pool available.

The area is great for game viewing and we saw a lot of animal both at the camp and during the safari drives.

Our safari was in the middle of our two weeks stay at Diani Beach, which was a good choice. You could rest a bit before the safari and also after that (it is quite a lot of driving from Diani and Back)

I recently stayed overnight at Satao Tented Camp - delightful setting, a warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble for the attentive staff. And being able to watch the game from the comfort of my verandah, a real bonus. Elephants passing by, taking their time, not worried by the proximity to the camp, my sort of heaven. If only I could have stayed longer. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: I would be happy to stay in any of the rooms - however if having to choose I would pick a room as cl...

I have gone here with my family every year usually paying for 3 tents this year we went 7 of us everything has changed the sun loungers had gone from the front of the tents disappointing when I love lying in the sun reading a book. Then I paid for a sundowner and paid double what I had last year still wasn't too bad until they told us to drive ourselfs out to the sundowner... Night time and going out to drink champers and cocktails then drive back we argued and they arranged someone to take us .. Every year before I've gone they drove u out and back .. Not safe encouraging people to drive while drinking I don't think I'll go back again which is sad as I've grown to know the staff but the management has gone downhill .

Thank you for your response on your recent trip to Satao Camp. I would like to address your points individually as follows>

1) "Everything has changed" - Over the last two years we have done several renovations and improvements including extended dining area, extended seating area, new bathrooms in all standard tents and free wifi in the lounge area. Without exception all our repeat clients, with exception of yourself, have commented very favourably on these changes.

2) "The Sun Loungers have gone from the front of the tents" - At Satao Camp we have never had sun loungers on the standard tents, these are only on the balcony's of the suite tents. During your earlier stay you must have been accommodated in one of our suite tents hence the reason you had sun loungers. If you had booked and paid for a Suite then you would have had sun loungers.

3) "I Paid for the Sundowner and paid double what I did last year" - I have checked and our sundowner price has not changed since 2011 when it was increased from US$ 30 to US$ 35 per person. From my records you were not charged anything more than what is advertised on either of the occasion's you visited Satao Camp.

4) "The management has gone down hill" - The Management team is primarily the same it has been for the last 10 years and Paul our manager and his team get very good comments consistently from both repeat clients and new clients.

I am very sorry that a repeat client such as yourself would feel the way you do and would encourage you to please be in touch with me or the Chairman (Mike Kirkland) next time you are travelling to Tsavo and Satao so we can deal with your booking first hand and try to ensure that you see and experience the Satao Camp that you enjoyed on previous trips.

Stayed only for 1 night on our 3 day Safari and have to say this was the best accommodation we got while in Kenya.
The "tent" we stayed in was a real luxury with spacious and very clean bathroom. The view right on the water hole was spectacular, managed to see plenty of animals through our short stay. As there are no fences and you are in a proper wilderness the guards will walk you to the restaurant and back in the night. There is a little torch in the tent, all you need to do is to flash the light and somebody will come to pick you up. As the camp runs on a generator you are not able to charge your electronics in the tent, but you can do so in the bar. For the ones online depending, there is also free wi-fi available. The food was amazing, not a huge choice as you are in the middle of nowhere but everything was very fresh and tasty, loved the toast for breakfast. All the staff were excelent - very friendly and polite and surely did a good job. Thanks to you all, you were brilliant!!!
Definitely recommend!

Room Tip: Tent 17 or any closer to the water hole
