We spent one night in the lodge in a recent trip to Mara. We arrived on 31 Jan and took 3 tents. The lodge is directly on Mara river and you could easily watch hippos submerging in the river water and hear them all day. The rooms are spacious and clean. The team was very helpful and friendly and always talk with a smile. When there, take tents of 1-10, they overlook the river and can enjoy relaxing view when not having game drive. It is highly recommended to stay in

After an exhausting road trip and game drives it would have been nice to have had hot food for lunch, but it was sadly Luke warm and the salads literally crawling with flies! However things improved at dinner and we had a pleasant evening, though there wasn't anything to view at the dam or the watering hole. The rooms are basic but serve you well though there is no hairdryer and too be honest it was nice to go out for dinner with wet hair in a bobble and a cool frock. This camp is very casual with a everyone muck in feel about it. The biggest let down is the fan in the room which goes off every 2 hours and you have to get up and wind the timer up again!
All that said we were relaxed and slept well.

This was the 2nd time we stayed here and was just as good as the first time we stayed. Rooms very comfortable and very clean. Staff were very friendly and could not do enough for you. As we had stayed there previously we had a bottle given to us which was a very nice touch. We would definitely recommend staying here and would definitely go back again.

We stayed here 2 nights on our safari with JT safaris. The safari was fantastic and especially our driver-guide Tito who made sure we saw as many as animals possible.
The lodge was nice, rooms we spacious, clean and had a big balcony with chairs to sit on and look at zebras and gazelles coming to the watering hole just behind the fence. Beds were comfortable and had a mosquito net around them. Bathroom was nice, but the water in the shower was cold, so quite a refreshing experience in the hot surrounding.
A small swimming-pool on the back of the lodge was refreshing and had nice views over the watering hole.
The staff was very friendly, food was tasty, but the dining room was full of flies and beetles flying around and after eating here we had unfortunately some stomach problems. A part from that we had a pleasant stay and will stay here again.

Spent 2 nights and for the room rate paid I wouldn't recommend this lodge. The rooms are very basic and extremely hot, the lodge has limited electricity and during the afternoon with no fans it is unbearable.

Food is below average and dining room is infested with bugs and beetles which constantly either fall into your food or fly into you while eating. However if you willing to pay extra for bush dinner it is worth it over dining in the main restaurant.

Victor in the restaurant was brilliant but the majority of the staff are not trained and not friendly.
This is my 10th visit to Kenya and by far this lodge is the worst I have ever experienced. It's not a four star lodge.

Room Tip: Don't book this lodge

This was the first stop of my husband and my safari (our first safari ever) with JT safaris (amazing safari company...see separate review). First and foremost, Tsavo East is incredible! Animals were plentiful and not difficult to stop. The color of the clay is a brilliant orange and makes for great scenery pictures! After a very hot (but wonderful) game drive we were greeted by a very friendly staff to a cold scented towel and a fresh glass of juice. The staff were so warm and welcoming. The high light other than the park itself was the view from the pool. Directly in front of the pool was a watering hole and while swimming you could see dozens of zebras, giraffes, warthogs, gazelle and vervet monkeys. Accommodations were clean and comfortable, staff was wonderful and the grounds were immaculate. Was this our favorite lodge while on safari? No. Was the food the best we had while on safari? No. (But the food was delicious and we were very happy with the service and quality of it and very much enjoyed it). Would we go back to this lodge on safari? Absolutely!

Ashnil Aruba was an OK experience during our 8 day safari trip and honestly the other places that we visited such as Masai Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo West were far superior than Tsave East. We jsut spent a night in the lodge and found the rooms to be very basic. They have a rather limited buffet option for food and internet can only be used in the lobby area. The view from the room was not very great as it was overlooking a muddy waterhole where only warthogs came to drink. The game drive exploring the surrounding area in the evening was nonetheless a good experience.

Our safari was arranged by Suf Musani of Tropical Adventure Safaris & Car Hire Ltd and he is a great guide to have. Sufian will treat you like a royalty and is vey transparent with his arrangement. You won't be able to fault him on anything.
