Awesome views. Bird watchers paradise indeed. Wow ! Be sure to bring your scope & camera - water birds abound and you can bird just popping your head out of the van.

A small park with lots of game! But the highlight are the flamingos, pelicans and other birds on the lake

Year after year we have been going back to Lake Nakuru, an "enchanting bucketshaped park full of wildlife". Year after year we have seen the enourmous changes and the loss of natural habitat.
First full of flamingos, then just pelicans, then fewer and fewer........ and this year almost no birds.....just herbivors and a lot of buffalos. We were told that the long rains have increased the lake levels and so destroyed the flora that support the many birds, this is highly unfortunate since everything is gone out of balance. Even many roads were swept away..... we really hope that this eco-system could find its balance once again ( perhaps with the help of some "professors").

You may read about a lake that shimmers pink - but this isn't Lake Nakuru. Our safari guide said that it's been a couple of years since flamingoes were here in any great number. Water levels in the lake have changed and this has been responsible for the diminishing numbers. You can't get that close to photograph the ones that are there either. Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania has many more flamingoes.
